What’s going on in Russia is difficult for me to have an opinion on.I feel like they took the wrong step in the right direction. That probably doesn’t make much sense though
From the article: “Public displays of affection by gays, including holding hands or displaying symbols like a rainbow flag, are now banned.”
What happened to freedom of speech? Are we next going to make it illegal for girls to play sports because it somehow makes them lesbian? Are we going to make it illegal for men to wear make-up? Are we going to jail the parents of 6 year-old boys who like to play with dolls because that --gasp-- might be gay propaganda?
Give me a break. The Vatican clearly opposes the criminalization of homosexuality, and the law is extremely immoral anyway. Besides, criminalization just makes people with SSAs more resolute in their behavior because they feel persecuted. I find it disgusting that any Catholic would support criminalization of a personal sin. Next thing you know, people on here will be promoting the criminalization of gluttony.
Very true.50 years ago in America, we’d have had no problem with something like this. The newspapers would refer to an individual who was a homosexual as a “pervert”. Nobody saw it as a violation of our Constitution either. Radical secularists now move the yardsticks and determine the parameters of what is moral or immoral. In the 1960’s the most liberal Democrat didn’t want to be associated with homosexual rights, now the most conservative Republicans don’t want to be labeled as anti-homosexual.
Sigh…“radical secularists”, by their nature, typically don’t care a whit about what’s moral or immoral, they care about equal rights and treatment under the law, equal standing before the law for people generally.50 years ago in America, we’d have had no problem with something like this. It is and isn’t about simply “holding hands”. Read the book “Ptown” by Peter Manso.Originally Posted by **SMGS127 **

I would point out there was no propaganda aimed at children. School kids were not indoctrinated into “gay” life through books and tv and movie and government agitprop.50 years ago in America, we’d have had no problem with something like this. But Beach Volleyball IS? Some of the summer Olympics events seem slightly silly. I have to respect the synchronized swimming though. Those ladies hold their breath for a LONG time underwater! The ribbon competition…good grief. But Beach Volleyball is just as stupid. They’re going to do THAT … and yet not have baseball?
Sure it’s a better display of skills than “synchronized swimming” or “girls swirling long ribbons” or “Olympic Walking” but … unless its a prank and graded for comedy … gimme Olympic Baseball.

… And here’s the reason baseball is NOT an Olympic Sport. The US might win.
Beach volleyball is silly a bit as an Olympic sport, but it has a world-wide following. Baseball most decidedly does not, sorry. No one outside the U.S., parts of Latin America and Japan plays it. It’s not going to be an Olympic sport because there would only be like 13 countries participating! Now if they drop wreslting from the Olympics, that will be really sad…But Beach Volleyball IS? Now BASEBALL would be great! Team sport, world wide interest, cute guys in traditional uniforms as opposed to the BB players with the baggy bum look…yuk.

To be fair, population control IS a naturally occurring phenomenon in wildlife. That isn’t to say we should be practicing it as humans as we have higher order knowledge, but homosexuality isn’t entirely impractical for certain species. How refreshing! You know the drill, lies, dam*ed lies and statistics. Correlation is not causation. And just because a bunch of pseudo scientists vote something in or out of the DSM doesn’t make it so.
My parents were both PhDs in biology, incredibly secular, totally without any interest in religion. They stated that with respect to science, homosexuality is abnormal behavior. In any species there are two objectives, to survive and to procreate. Homosexuality works against both scientifically determined objectives with respect to any species. That being said, this is no reason to demean, debase, or detract from the humanity of any person facing SSA.
How many of those lawmakers that passed that bill are gay? Even if you can attribute the passage to a gay “lobby,” what % of gays do you think make up that lobby? Stop attributing to all gays what only applies to a very select few. That homosexualists are NOT trying to indoctrinate children is laughable. California schools require textbooks to feature individuals who are “other” than traditional…homosexual, transgender, not sure, thinking about it…whatever floats their boat. Tell me that something in 99% of cases being totally extraneous from the subject or the event is important enough to DEMAND this be in all textbooks is not propaganda? How about schools featuring a “Day of Silence” or demanding that even primary school children learn about homosexuality? Not indoctrination?
That’s true, but you’d be surprised how many people defend their hateful treatment against all 3 groups, and then how many more people defend it against gays.Yes it’s sad that some homosexuals are still receiving hateful treatment but let’s get real here. Human nature is such that many people get hateful treatment. Ask an obese person how they are treated? (btw I am not but often our patients are) Ask someone who goes into a restaurant with their child who has Down Syndrome?
I don’t know if you are even in a position to do this, but try living as an out lesbian (not actually doing gay behavior, just living as one) and see how many friends you have in a month and how many people treat you with respect during that time frame. It IS the norm, and you just don’t see it because you don’t experience it on a day-to-day basis. I still wear rainbow paraphanelia and call myself lesbian when I’m not going to school, because I never want to forget what these kids go through on a daily basis. I don’t want to lose my drive. What has become incredibly tiresome amongst the homosexual activists is their shrill protestations that hateful treatment is the rule rather than the exception.
Most of them want to be able to have financial support equal to that of heterosexuals and that’s it. I have met very few who actually care what churches think of their marriage, even if they absolutely and unequivocally reject their ‘marriage.’In addition it is extremely annoying that this tiny minority that bases its entire image upon sexual practices and proclivities demands that this be made public, accepted if not embraced and treated as equivalent in every way to traditional marriage.
True, but this bill isn’t really about the Olympics. It’s about making sure that kids can’t talk to other kids online about SSAs. It’s about making sure that hatred towards gays continues to be fostered to promote Putin’s regime. I highly doubt you’d argue that an “anti-Catholic propaganda” bill, were it to be passed in the U.S., would be based entirely on rational logic and have nothing to do with anti-Catholic hatredAs to the Olympics, once again. If Joe and Bob can keep their hands off each other in public, leave the tutus at home and like the vast majority of heterosexuals keep their private life private, I am sure they will have a fine experience at the Olympics. One of my favorite of all time athletes, Greg Lougainis competed without revealing his sexual orientation (nor his HIV status sadly) and no one even thought about his sex life. They just appreciated his incredible athleticism and the pride he gave many Americans including me.

I say it’s normal in that it’s normally occurring. Gay wildlife are seen, and certain animals actually show gay relationships. That does not make it moral of course, but I would say it’s normal. The question is how we should talk to gay children about their normal desires. Should we discourage them from talking about their desires and tell them that the desires make them bad? Or should we encourage them to be open about all temptations so that we can teach them proper behavior?I think you’ve just about said it all by means of your several comments on the issue. I agree with you in all respects. Just one statement you made is not correct: “the disorder IS normal.” Technically speaking, if SSA is a disorder, then it cannot be normal. Further, the Catholic Church does not believe SSA to be normal, but disordered. The psychologist’s DSM, OTOH, believes that SSA is normal, except for ego-dystonic homosexuality, in which a gay person suffers from the stigma (although I haven’t checked the most recent DSM-V to see if that category is still there). Or did you mean to say the “disorder” is normal? Regardless, all the other points of your argument make a lot of sense to me.

…so…Putin is Republican? That’s what you’re saying?![]()
What has this got to do with Republicans?
Because you failed geography and civics?
Sorry for late replies folks!… What? What have the Republicans got to do with Russia or the Olympics at all?
Thanks for that info.Russian ‘anti-gay propaganda law’ won’t be enforced at Sochi 2014 Olympics:
“The Olympics is a major international event. Our task is to be as politically correct and tolerant as we can be. That’s why we made the decision not to raise this issue during the Games,” Interfax news agency cites said Igor Ananskikh, the head of the Russian Duma Committee on physical training, sports and youth, as saying.
Ananskikh’s statement contradicts comments made by Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko on Thursday, who said no concessions would be made to foreign athletes and visitors to the Sochi Olympics.
“No one is forbidding an athlete with non-traditional sexual orientation from coming to Sochi, but if he goes onto the street and starts propagandizing it, then of course he will be held accountable,” Mutko said.
The less stringent approach voiced by the Russian lawmaker is more in line with a previous statement by the International Olympic Committee, saying that it had “received assurances from the highest level of government in Russia that the legislation will not affect those attending or taking part in the Games.” rt.com/news/russia-olympics-gay-law-948/
Here are some other interesting facts regarding the Homosexual “ban” in Russia:
The vast majority of the population – 88 % - is also in favor of the introduction of the ban, according to a poll by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM).
The draft law does discriminative against LGBT people and is only aimed to protect minors, Federation Council speaker, Valentina Matvienko, emphasized on Wednesday, ahead of voting.
Unlike in the Soviet times, people with non-traditional sexual orientation are no longer prosecuted in Russia, she reminded.
“They are ordinary equal members of the society. As adults, they are entitled to decide how they want to live. But when it comes to minors [the ban on propaganda] is not someone’s whim, but a demand from the society,” Matvienko said.
Under the bill, individuals will be fined up to 5,000 roubles ($US 152) for such propaganda, officials will have to pay up to 50,000 roubles (about US$ 1,500) and companies – up to 500,000 roubles (about $US 15,000).
If law violators use the media or the internet for the promotion of non-traditional sex relations, they will face even harsher punishment. For instance, individuals will have shell out up to 100,000 roubles (about US$ 3,000), while organizations – a million roubles or face a 90-day suspension of activities.
Foreign citizens or stateless persons who violate the ban will face a fine or an arrest for up to 15 days followed by a deportation from Russia.
The law also defines what is considered the gay propaganda of non-traditional relations. It is the distribution of information aimed at forming non-traditional sexual concept in children, describing such ties as attractive, promoting the distorted understanding of social equality of traditional and non-traditional relations and also unwanted solicitation of information that could provoke interest in such relations. rt.com/politics/gay-propaganda-ban-senators-284/
Animals basically rape each other. When a male mounts another male it’s either to show dominance or because one male animal is raping the other weaker or less dominate one. But the normal sexual preference for any animal is for the opposite sex. No animal limits themselves to sexual acts with the same sex unless perhaps they are put into an artificial setting where the opposite sex is not available to them.To be fair, population control IS a naturally occurring phenomenon in wildlife. That isn’t to say we should be practicing it as humans as we have higher order knowledge, but homosexuality isn’t entirely impractical for certain species.
EXACTLY! The occasional male on male rape which I have witnessed in both wildlife and farm animals is often a dominance, and when fighting over FEMALES not each other. Joe the Duck does not want to build a nest with Bob the Duck but he “rapes” Bob to keep him away from Suzy the Duck.Animals basically rape each other. No, it’s not. See my previous post about animals seemingly engaged in homosexual behavior. It is unnatural in the animal kingdom and either relates to exhibiting estrus in females or dominance in males. To be fair, population control IS a naturally occurring phenomenon in wildlife. That isn’t to say we should be practicing it as humans as we have higher order knowledge, but homosexuality isn’t entirely impractical for certain species.
Your response bears no resemblance to the issue. As I noted, there is EXTENSIVE propaganda promoting homosexual activity in schools. I have no idea nor is it relevant that homosexuals were or were not making the laws. I suspect rather than homosexuals it was their far Left constituency who bully these rules through by screaming “Homophobia” to anyone speaks up. There are unfortunate situations where concerned parents have requested their child NOT be indoctrinated and the furies of hell are unleashed. One father was sent to jail because he demanded his child be absented from a homosexual propaganda class. Further the need to promote what kind of sexual activity occurred with respect to certain historical figures is truly baffling to me. I haven’t spent two seconds thinking about George Washington’s sex life so why would a homosexual’s activity be relevant to school children. How many of those lawmakers that passed that bill are gay? Even if you can attribute the passage to a gay “lobby,” what % of gays do you think make up that lobby? Stop attributing to all gays what only applies to a very select few.
We will never eradicate prejudice and bigotry. Your ox is gored on the gay scene. Would you like to hear about hate? Try being a conservative in a liberal environment someday. I assure you the vitriol is no less scathing. I have been screamed at by those who hate Catholics, particularly pro life Catholic. That’s true, but you’d be surprised how many people defend their hateful treatment against all 3 groups, and then how many more people defend it against gays.
I don’t know if you are even in a position to do this, but try living as an out lesbian (not actually doing gay behavior, just living as one) and see how many friends you have in a month and how many people treat you with respect during that time frame.
Tell that to the businesses that have been sued because they won’t make a wedding cake or photograph a gay “wedding?” The pettiness of the homosexualists has no low bar. They are not demanding some life saving medical treatment…I mean it’s a WEDDING cake, not chemotherapy. Look at the hateful response to the Chik Fil A executive who simply said he believes in traditional marriage! Ridiculous. Most of them want to be able to have financial support equal to that of heterosexuals and that’s it. I have met very few who actually care what churches think of their marriage, even if they absolutely and unequivocally reject their ‘marriage.’
So you think President Putin is going to be monitoring Facebook to be sure no gay posts a picture or a comment regarding homosexuality? PUH LEASE. People are competing at the Olympics for personal and national pride. They are not there to score a date.True, but this bill isn’t really about the Olympics. It’s about making sure that kids can’t talk to other kids online about SSAs.
No they don’t. Refer to my previous posts. Homosexual activity among animals is not a “relationship.”I say it’s normal in that it’s normally occurring. Gay wildlife are seen, and certain animals actually show gay relationships. That does not make it moral of course, but I would say it’s normal. The question is how we should talk to gay children about their normal desires. Should we discourage them from talking about their desires and tell them that the desires make them bad? Or should we encourage them to be open about all temptations so that we can teach them proper behavior?
My point is that you are supporting a bill that would effectively jail any confused children as well as any quiet gay couple who has no intention of any type of “propaganda.” Tell me, if American banned “pro-Catholic propaganda,” would you believe for a second that you would be safe walking down the street with an open cross on your necklace? So why on Earth do you think Russia, with a much more overbearing police force, will happily abide by all quiet gay couples and only prosecute the worst offenses of “propaganda?”Your response bears no resemblance to the issue. Further the need to promote what kind of sexual activity occurred with respect to certain historical figures is truly baffling to me. I haven’t spent two seconds thinking about George Washington’s sex life so why would a homosexual’s activity be relevant to school children.
You’re right, the tiny minority of the tiny minority that actually sees these things as a good idea do make the rest of the LGBT community look bad. But why are Catholics, who should be well-versed in moral behavior, seeking to immorally jail gay children? One of our modes of responsibility is to judge the EFFECTS of all decisions we make or support. Not just the line-for-line literal analysis, the effects. And make no mistake that gay children WILL be jailed (and gang raped in jail and possibly before) as a direct result of the passage of this law.It is propaganda plain and simple. And the homosexualist forces are loud and proud indeed. This tiny minority shoves its agenda down the throats of the unwilling majority because of the paralysis of the P.C. crowd.
So let me ask you something. Do you believe that any person who writes online that they think Catholics aren’t good people should be thrown into Russian jails? I doubt a single person on here would agree with that. But they’re trying to indoctrinate our children away from the Catholic lifestyle much more than a person who is talking online to a kid struggling with heavily gay-hating parents and trying desperately to convince them not to commit suicide. And yet the latter is somehow worthy of being jailed for because he’s “promoting the discussion of non-traditional values?”We will never eradicate prejudice and bigotry. Your ox is gored on the gay scene. Would you like to hear about hate? Try being a conservative in a liberal environment someday. I assure you the vitriol is no less scathing. I have been screamed at by those who hate Catholics, particularly pro life Catholic. But guess what, I realize that human nature is such that this is just something I will always deal with if I want to be open about my political and religious views. I have the choice to keep my mouth shut and often depending on the situation I do. But if I wear my crucifix and pray a rosary in front of an abortion clinic, I assure you I draw just as much fire as you with your rainbow shirt.
You don’t think gays tell these guys to stop being [names I can’t say on a Catholic forum]? You would be heavily surprised. The gay community as a whole tends to get infuriated by these lawsuits. The extreme minority of angry gays makes the whole gay community look like they’re out to target Catholics, when in reality most gays want to live their life quietly.Tell that to the businesses that have been sued because they won’t make a wedding cake or photograph a gay “wedding?” The pettiness of the homosexualists has no low bar. They are not demanding some life saving medical treatment…I mean it’s a WEDDING cake, not chemotherapy. Look at the hateful response to the Chik Fil A executive who simply said he believes in traditional marriage! Ridiculous.
And it may be a minority but they get the headlines and those businesses suffer. Do your buddies a favor and tell them to get a life. Whether they can get the wedding cake of their dreams is hardly a hill anyone should die upon.
You have faith in Putin not to overuse his police force? Think about that for a bit.So you think President Putin is going to be monitoring Facebook to be sure no gay posts a picture or a comment regarding homosexuality? PUH LEASE. People are competing at the Olympics for personal and national pride. They are not there to score a date.
I think gay celebrities come out to help gay kids know that they aren’t alone in the world. Ellen came out at a time when gay murders were, nationwide, still fairly more common than they should be. Even now, gay lynchings happen in the South, and “lesser” crimes like beatings and harassment happen all the time across the country. It’s amazing how all these years many gay Olympians competed and didn’t feel compelled to share their sex lives during the competition. Think Greg Louganis…
Believe me when I say that, as someone who was in the LGBT community for 7 years, I know about ‘explorative bisexuality’ with women. I also know that I have only once in 7 years met an explorative bisexual girl who didn’t either have a parent who: a) taught that anything went with sexuality, or b) taught that gay people were perverts and horrible people who corrupt the world, and who never taught the difference between SSAs and behavior. If parents taught correct morals better to their children, you wouldn’t have to worry about gay propaganda doing ANYTHING.As to talking to children, if they are children, their sexuality isn’t formed and it’s very common for young people, girls particularly, to experiment and explore with other females. This doesn’t mean they should be immediately branded as Lesbians but that any questions should be answered dispassionately.
I know no one here is SUGGESTING that. But you have to understand that that will be the effects of supporting the bill. People here are so quick to read into how liberal bills can be applied existentially or vaguely to harm religious rights, but when an anti-gay bill comes out, they only care about the strict letter of the law. You have to be consistent. Either say that gay ‘marriage’ bills have no effect on religious rights because their text explicitly bans it (which is also a foolish position) or understand that anti-gay bills are written to try to gain support just as gay ‘marriage’ bills are.No one is talking browbeating a child because he/she is still confused, unsure about sexuality. Most of them are. And frankly a lot of adults are as well. Again no one is suggesting cruel or hateful treatment.
