Gays May Be Prosecuted at 2014 Olympics

No, it’s not. See my previous post about animals seemingly engaged in homosexual behavior. It is unnatural in the animal kingdom and either relates to exhibiting estrus in females or dominance in males.

Your response bears no resemblance to the issue. As I noted, there is EXTENSIVE propaganda promoting homosexual activity in schools. I have no idea nor is it relevant that homosexuals were or were not making the laws. I suspect rather than homosexuals it was their far Left constituency who bully these rules through by screaming “Homophobia” to anyone speaks up. There are unfortunate situations where concerned parents have requested their child NOT be indoctrinated and the furies of hell are unleashed. One father was sent to jail because he demanded his child be absented from a homosexual propaganda class. Further the need to promote what kind of sexual activity occurred with respect to certain historical figures is truly baffling to me. I haven’t spent two seconds thinking about George Washington’s sex life so why would a homosexual’s activity be relevant to school children.

It is propaganda plain and simple. And the homosexualist forces are loud and proud indeed. This tiny minority shoves its agenda down the throats of the unwilling majority because of the paralysis of the P.C. crowd.

We will never eradicate prejudice and bigotry. Your ox is gored on the gay scene. Would you like to hear about hate? Try being a conservative in a liberal environment someday. I assure you the vitriol is no less scathing. I have been screamed at by those who hate Catholics, particularly pro life Catholic.

But guess what, I realize that human nature is such that this is just something I will always deal with if I want to be open about my political and religious views. I have the choice to keep my mouth shut and often depending on the situation I do. But if I wear my crucifix and pray a rosary in front of an abortion clinic, I assure you I draw just as much fire as you with your rainbow shirt.

Tell that to the businesses that have been sued because they won’t make a wedding cake or photograph a gay “wedding?” The pettiness of the homosexualists has no low bar. They are not demanding some life saving medical treatment…I mean it’s a WEDDING cake, not chemotherapy. Look at the hateful response to the Chik Fil A executive who simply said he believes in traditional marriage! Ridiculous.

And it may be a minority but they get the headlines and those businesses suffer. Do your buddies a favor and tell them to get a life. Whether they can get the wedding cake of their dreams is hardly a hill anyone should die upon.

So you think President Putin is going to be monitoring Facebook to be sure no gay posts a picture or a comment regarding homosexuality? PUH LEASE. People are competing at the Olympics for personal and national pride. They are not there to score a date.

It’s amazing how all these years many gay Olympians competed and didn’t feel compelled to share their sex lives during the competition. Think Greg Louganis…

No they don’t. Refer to my previous posts. Homosexual activity among animals is not a “relationship.”

As to talking to children, if they are children, their sexuality isn’t formed and it’s very common for young people, girls particularly, to experiment and explore with other females. This doesn’t mean they should be immediately branded as Lesbians but that any questions should be answered dispassionately.

No one is talking browbeating a child because he/she is still confused, unsure about sexuality. Most of them are. And frankly a lot of adults are as well. Again no one is suggesting cruel or hateful treatment.

Russian ‘anti-gay propaganda law’ won’t be enforced at Sochi 2014 Olympics:

The Olympics is a major international event. Our task is to be as politically correct and tolerant as we can be. That’s why we made the decision not to raise this issue during the Games,” Interfax news agency cites said Igor Ananskikh, the head of the Russian Duma Committee on physical training, sports and youth, as saying.

Ananskikh’s statement contradicts comments made by Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko on Thursday, who said no concessions would be made to foreign athletes and visitors to the Sochi Olympics.

“No one is forbidding an athlete with non-traditional sexual orientation from coming to Sochi, but if he goes onto the street and starts propagandizing it, then of course he will be held accountable,” Mutko said.

The less stringent approach voiced by the Russian lawmaker is more in line with a previous statement by the International Olympic Committee, saying that it had “received assurances from the highest level of government in Russia that the legislation will not affect those attending or taking part in the Games.” rt.com/news/russia-olympics-gay-law-948/

Here are some other interesting facts regarding the Homosexual “ban” in Russia:

The vast majority of the population – 88 % - is also in favor of the introduction of the ban, according to a poll by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM).

The draft law does discriminative against LGBT people and is only aimed to protect minors, Federation Council speaker, Valentina Matvienko, emphasized on Wednesday, ahead of voting.

Unlike in the Soviet times, people with non-traditional sexual orientation are no longer prosecuted in Russia, she reminded.

“They are ordinary equal members of the society. As adults, they are entitled to decide how they want to live. But when it comes to minors [the ban on propaganda] is not someone’s whim, but a demand from the society,” Matvienko said.

Under the bill, individuals will be fined up to 5,000 roubles ($US 152) for such propaganda, officials will have to pay up to 50,000 roubles (about US$ 1,500) and companies – up to 500,000 roubles (about $US 15,000).

If law violators use the media or the internet for the promotion of non-traditional sex relations, they will face even harsher punishment. For instance, individuals will have shell out up to 100,000 roubles (about US$ 3,000), while organizations – a million roubles or face a 90-day suspension of activities.

Foreign citizens or stateless persons who violate the ban will face a fine or an arrest for up to 15 days followed by a deportation from Russia.

The law also defines what is considered the gay propaganda of non-traditional relations. It is the distribution of information aimed at forming non-traditional sexual concept in children, describing such ties as attractive, promoting the distorted understanding of social equality of traditional and non-traditional relations and also unwanted solicitation of information that could provoke interest in such relations. rt.com/politics/gay-propaganda-ban-senators-284/
There it is, they are telling the public by their statements that they want a peaceful resolution where athletes participate but don’t cause trouble for them.👍

My point is that you are supporting a bill that would **effectively jail any confused children as well as any quiet gay couple who has no intention of any type of “propaganda.” **

You’re right, the tiny minority of the tiny minority that actually sees these things as a good idea do make the rest of the LGBT community look bad. **But why are Catholics, who should be well-versed in moral behavior, seeking to immorally jail gay children? One of our modes of responsibility is to judge the EFFECTS of all decisions we make or support. Not just the line-for-line literal analysis, the effects. ** And make no mistake that gay children WILL be jailed (and gang raped in jail and possibly before) as a direct result of the passage of this law.

S***o let me ask you something. Do you believe that any person who writes online that they think Catholics aren’t good people should be thrown into Russian jails? *** I doubt a single person on here would agree with that. But they’re trying to indoctrinate our children away from the Catholic lifestyle much more than a person who is talking online to a kid struggling with heavily gay-hating parents and trying desperately to convince them not to commit suicide. And yet the latter is somehow worthy of being jailed for because he’s “promoting the discussion of non-traditional values?”

Newsflash: we’re SUPPOSED to discuss all of our temptations. By doing so, our parents are able to teach us which are right to act on and which are not, and we don’t feel that we have to hide away a part of ourselves from the world. The correct response to the very small group pushing gay propaganda is not to yell “jail the people behind the ‘It Gets Better’ project!” but rather to start our own “It Gets Better” project from a Catholic point of view. *** How many gay youth do you think you’ll convert by advocating for the Russian jailing of gay kids? How many gay youth do you think you’ll convert by advocating for apostolic missions into the LGBT community? So why do you choose the former again?

You don’t think gays tell these guys to stop being [names I can’t say on a Catholic forum]? You would be heavily surprised. The gay community as a whole tends to get infuriated by these lawsuits. The extreme minority of angry gays makes the whole gay community look like they’re out to target Catholics, when in reality most gays want to live their life quietly.

You have faith in Putin not to overuse his police force? Think about that for a bit.
Honestly you so far overstate the situation that your posts bear little resemblance to what is being discussed.

Catholics suggesting gay children be jailed? Are you kidding?

As to “gay murders being common…” Are you kidding?

I’m delighted to hear at least some homosexuals are opposed to the ridiculous lawsuits and protests. This above all things has made me very UNSUPPORTIVE of designating homosexuality as a protected class. I don’t think there are very many people who want to run gays to ground and string them up. But the more shrill and outrageous the demands, the less support you will receive from the mainstream public.

When the vast majority of people exhibit goodwill and a live and let live philosophy regarding other peoples’ sex lives that militant gays are harassing private businesses because the owners are religious or support traditional marriage just makes people like me say “You wanna fight? Bring it on!” I am a real believer in individual rights and that includes allowing private businesses to serve or not provide services as they wish. If a business is willing to alienate a large and important group of potential customers then it’s their loss. But just as fine restaurants should not have to accommodate someone who comes in wearing shorts and flip flops or a movie theater will not allow people to bring in their own food, if a business doesn’t want to bake a wedding cake for Bob and Jim, so be it. Another business would be delighted to get their trade and it’s the first businesses loss.

You see this is the same thing…outrageous claims when it would be quite easy to simply avoid the problem in the first place. And I do not think a) gay children will be jailed. b) there are any Catholics who think gay children should be jailed and c) that any of us have the slightest influence over Putin.

If gay people attend the Olympics, keep your mouth and pants zipped and I just bet that there won’t be a problem. Shove it in Putin’s face, defy him, make an example…oh you’ll hear from him and it won’t be pretty.

Again why not remember discretion is the better part of valor.

Catholics suggesting gay children be jailed? Are you kidding?

As to “gay murders being common…” Are you kidding?
First of all, gay murders WERE common in the 80s and 90s, and they were virtually unable to be prosecuted before the 1960s. So no I am not kidding. And again, I am not suggesting Catholics are INTENDING for gay children to be jailed. I am just saying that they are suspending their ability to look past the wording of their bill because it has the words “gay propaganda” in it. Gay children WILL be jailed under this law for talking about their attractions. There is no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Look at all these states prosecuting teens for child pornography because young girls make dumb decisions with so-called “sexting.” And you think that Russian police under Putin will somehow be better at staying to the letter of the law than the US?

I think you’ll find that most gay people not only recognize that these militant groups are unhelpful, but that they also agree with you on the issues of church and business rights. We just live in a lawsuit-heavy country where any twerp with a megaphone can make an entire group of people look bad.

I am not really concerned about the Olympians, especially with Putin wanting to maintain an international saving face. I am more concerned about the gay kids in Russia who now will have nothing told to them except that they are horrible people who don’t deserve to be living on Earth. And if you don’t think that’s what parents in the Orthodox Church teach their children, I don’t know what to tell you.

I know it’s hard to hear from a Catholic perspective, but there are many ‘Christian’ denominations who teach that the world would be better if gays just all killed themselves. Sometimes, you even hear allusions to this in the mainstream Baptist lines when pastors will talk about caging gays and throwing them onto a deserted island to die off. Is gay “propaganda” all bad? Certainly the California bill is ridiculous, and “Heather Has Two Mommies” should not be in public schools, at least not without parental preclearance and the possibility of an opt-out. But I’m fine with the “It Gets Better” project (which undoubtedly would be considered propaganda in Russia) existing until we as Catholics start our own anti-suicide videos for the LGBT community.

My point is that you are supporting a bill that would effectively jail any confused children as well as any quiet gay couple who has no intention of any type of “propaganda.” Tell me, if American banned “pro-Catholic propaganda,” would you believe for a second that you would be safe walking down the street with an open cross on your necklace? So why on Earth do you think Russia, with a much more overbearing police force, will happily abide by all quiet gay couples and only prosecute the worst offenses of “propaganda?”

You’re right, the tiny minority of the tiny minority that actually sees these things as a good idea do make the rest of the LGBT community look bad. But why are Catholics, who should be well-versed in moral behavior, seeking to immorally jail gay children? Well said, Lisa. The individual you are responding to is engaged in “what if” fear mongering. Protecting children from gay propaganda in the United States should be a priority. Children are not mentally or emotionally mature enough to understand two gay guys kissing in a story book in public school (King and King). It is safe to say that the the gay propagandists are angry because they can’t get to the next generation in Russia. It’s not a criminal offense to be gay but it should be a criminal offense to tell little Jimmy - at age 5 - that two men can marry each other.

This poster wants people to believe he can predict the future. Just not possible. I find his rants offensive and irrational.

First I appreciate that you can see how counterproductive the militants are to your cause. I just wish your approach were more common. I truly don’t understand pushing things on the small children particularly. They have no context for “Heather Has Two Mommies” and probably wouldn’t think twice about it if not brought up as part of the school curriculum.

As to the thread issue, here is the reality. We have no control over Putin or over any other country’s laws. Heck we can’t even seem to control our local school boards! So I don’t know what you think could be done with respect to this issue.

There are many countries that do not allow freedom on the internet and for all we know CAF is buried in the NSA record building:eek:. So I think we’re arguing to no good end. There are many things that are tragic, children starving, being trafficked, being exploited. It’s all bad.

I realize that Russia has a very checkered past regarding human rights. But I truly do not think they will be trolling the internet looking for a confused twelve year old who’s talking to a buddy about sexual matters. Call me naive but I just don’t think this is a priority for them. Now they may monitor adult conversations with children just as our law enforcement will sometimes set up a false persona on the net and pretend to be a young person so they can lure out the predators. But worrying about twelve year olds who are confused about their urges and feelings…I just don’t accept this as a priority.

I agree. I really try hard to broach this gap between the LGBT community and the Catholic community. As long as such a crevice exists, we’re going to find it difficult to keep gays from acting on their SSAs. I work hard in the gay community to try to show them that the Catholic Church doesn’t hate them, but I also work very hard in the Catholic community to try to keep people from giving the gay community examples to use against me.
As to the thread issue, here is the reality. We have no control over Putin or over any other country’s laws. Heck we can’t even seem to control our local school boards! So I don’t know what you think could be done with respect to this issue.
It’s not so much that I believe we can make a change in Russian law, so much as I don’t believe that Catholics should be supporting laws like these. “Feel-good” laws are like the most dangerous things that can possibly be put into place. It feels good for someone to think they are “protecting children from propaganda” until the law actually doesn’t do that.

And I never thought child pornography laws would be used to arrest middle and high schoolers for sexting :(. Laws like these are never used for their intended purpose. Certainly, you can see that, in a country where gay beatings and rapings aren’t even prosecuted, a law like this might be used for a more nefarious purpose?

Thank you for your polite responses by the way :). I hope you understand my concerns expressed in this thread, even if you don’t agree with them.

I agree. I really try hard to broach this gap between the LGBT community and the Catholic community.
You spend time here trying to get us to see their point of view, but do you try to get them to see our point of view?

To SMGS127 -

What is your point? Please cite specific examples from credible sources about gay beatings and rapings. And what about the beating and raping of women? Gays do not, as Russian law states, have the right to convince children that being gay is OK. That a non-traditional family is OK. They are reacting with justified horror as country after country is legalizing gay so-called marriage. I am sick and tired of the fact that the private sex lives of a defined group of individuals is being crammed down the throats of little kids in the US. That is 100% wrong. Can you see why? It’s not a crime to be gay in Russia. And what is the US State Department doing or saying? They, not anyone here, have some influence.

Ed

The APA ipso facto cannot make any decisions based on science because, despite how much some mental health professionals want to insist otherwise, psychology and psychiatry are most definitely not “sciences” to begin with.
For anything under the sun, the scientific method is possible.(I am using that phrase as a metaphor or course, for only God is not under the sun according to that Biblical term).

The social sciences, unfortunately, have been taken over by movers and shakers for social change. Their agenda is too overt to even make a pretense of anything resembling scientific objectivity.

Even a combination of scientific method and politics is no longer science.

What’s going on in Russia is difficult for me to have an opinion on.I feel like they took the wrong step in the right direction. That probably doesn’t make much sense though
Actually it makes a lot of sense. There is a lot of compassion for people struggling to make sense of the turbulence of their sexual passions. There is a lot of empathy from most people of good will when it comes to allowing people to make their own mistakes when it comes to creating a sexual identity. It was with the best of intentions that when it came to a homosexual being strung out to die on a barb wire fence, people aligned themselves with the victims of these crimes against the brutes that would perpetrate them.

However, now that the choice is that people who advocate traditional marriages and heterosexual procreative unions as the necessary norm face becoming social pariahs and being looked upon as no different that people that take baseball bats to gays, our best of intentions have failed us yet again.

Any criticism of Russia for taking their course that they have chosen rings hollow from the position we are now at in the West.

You spend time here trying to get us to see their point of view, but do you try to get them to see our point of view?
Absolutely :). I spend a lot of time talking with those in the community about the Church and about the doctrine of the Church. I also talk to them about current-day issues to gauge their opinions and argue against them if they are hostile to the Church.

MOSCOW – In Russia it is now illegal to even speak about homosexuality around minors, much less openly display gay pride. Technically the ban is against “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations” around minors, but the implication for openly gay individuals is clear. Public displays of affection by gays, including holding hands or displaying symbols like a rainbow flag, are now banned. Violators face steep fines and jail time; foreigners face similar penalties plus deportation.

I’ve come 11 pages late to the discussion and apologize if it’s already been covered, but what in the world happened to the days when the Olympics were about sports? There’s no reason why any athlete has to be doing anything at all regarding their sexual orientation. They’re at the Olympics to skate, run, jump, whatever, NOT to wave rainbow flags or talk to small children about what they do in bed.

Also, the title is misleading. *People who break the law *may be prosecuted. That would include any person, gay or otherwise, presumably, who is waving rainbow flags or talking to children about homosexuality.

As a further thought, I grew up in the days of the Iron Curtain. I fully understood that

  1. *]The Soviet Union has different laws from the US,
*]If I plan on going, I better know those laws because,
*]if I break them, I will be prosecuted.

Seriously, I think any person is capable of going to the Olympics and managing a week or two of not talking to children about homosexuality.

I always find it interesting how we’re admonished to respect diversity and other cultures…as long as those cultures are what liberals agree with.

If you call the broader LGBT community a “militant society,” then you clearly haven’t experienced the LGBT community. My apologies if that’s not what you were referring to.

As for my quote that you bring up, I’ve found that a lot of posters characterize gays as angry, anti-Catholic, religion-haters who want to impose their views on everyone else and make everyone else suffer. On the contrary, most gays (while supporting legalized civil marriage) also support the rights of the religious, and oftentimes there are big fights in LGBT communities trying to keep the “militant” ones, as you call them, from infringing on those rights, including the right to teach against homosexuality, the right to have your children shielded from books espousing homosexuality, and the right to never be forced to accept a gay ‘marriage’ as a real marriage. [To give you an example, almost every gay person I knew thought the bakery lawsuit was ridiculous. Only 1 or 2 of my friends, most of whom have deeply negative pasts regarding religion, were in favor.]

In fact, I had many deeply religious friends that I was close to while I was actively lesbian. As long as they weren’t insulting me to my face, I was totally fine with them, even though I knew many of them supported traditional marriage. Now, the situation is reversed, where I have a very large LGBT friendbase, many of whom know I support traditional marriage, and our friendships go on all the same. They would never ask me to accept their views on homosexuality; usually, they just want to live their life quietly away from the spotlight.

So as I said, if you consider “militant gays” to be representative of the broader LGBT community, you clearly haven’t met the broader LGBT community.
I clearly have met the community and it is indeed militant. Why do you doubt me? Because we have views that differ? If that’s the case, I could say you have clearly not met the “community.” I take you at you’re word, I hope you will do the same.

I have yet to meet one who will tolerate accountability for their disordered lifestyle. To be crystal clear these are souls who willingly flaunt, and are proud of the lifestyle. Now since you didn’t answer me I will ask again. What does being “nice” mean?

There is no uniform gay community, just as there is no uniform Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Black, Hispanic, or Asian community. People are individuals; they do not think alike even though they share certain characteristics. Outside observers tend to group people homogeneously based on their apparent characteristics and focus on the leaders and proponents featured in the media since these are most salient. However, they do not really represent the silent majority who just want to lead their lives in peace and harmony away from the glare and spotlight of politics.

Alright, I trust you when you say you have met the community. I ask in what context though. Did you go to a support meeting and listen in? Did you go to a gay pride parade as a protester? Did you go to a gay pride festival and talk to people? Were you confrontational? Engaging? Loving? These are important questions.

I would argue that they only flaunt their identities, because they feel those events are really the only place they can talk about them. If you keep something bottled up for 364 days a year to release in one day, you’re going to go crazier on that day than if you have the ability to really talk out your problems every week, you know?

Being nice means being respectful. I have many friends who don’t agree with my conversion, but they respect it. They don’t understand why on Earth I would voluntarily choose not to date according to my sexuality, but they have never criticized me for it and they are willing to openly dialogue with me about it.

Yes people are individuals, and individuals are not identically uniform, but people do self identify as groups wether admitted or not. I realize all are not militant. But my experience has witnessed this over and over, and I know others of goodwill who’s experience has been the same. Is it possible my experience, and others are the exception to the rule? Yes it’s possible. But is it probable?

People are individuals with deep seated ideology no matter their personality type. Awaken that cause, and watch how quick the “silent majority” turns into the embolden majority. Have you ever watched the footage from the solidarity movement in Poland, when JPII was there? The “silent majority” were in that sea of humanity. The only “silent majority” was the handful of communist leaders watching their power evaporate. lol Have you ever witnessed a labor dispute boil over into a strike? Even in a right to work state where I live, 95% of the workforce was living paycheck to paycheck. Out of that 95% more than 70% said they would cross, they had to cross, or they would not be able to feed their families. The “silent majority” were persuaded by the 30% percent not to cross. Why?
