Georgetown Prof. Quits, Blasts University’s Lack of Catholic Identity

Citing a lack of Catholic identity, a professor is resigning from Georgetown University and heading to the University of Notre Dame, according to an open letter he wrote and published at Front Porch Republic.

Georgetown Professor Quits

Wham!

You do have to wonder sometimes how nominally catholic institutions were allowed to wander so far from home.

I guess Notre Dame has a better Catholic reputation than many people realize…

Wow, good for him. Not often these days you hear of a college professor that is outspoken ***against ***secularism.

hmm… it would probably be best to go past the Cardinal Newman Society article to what the professor actually wrote.

He lists two reasons. One is that Georgetown University was not fully supportive of his Tocqueville Forum, and the University of Notre Dame promises to be so. The other is that DC is not family friendly and living in the area is a hardship.

He does take a swipe at the Catholic identity of Georgetown, but it seems to be secondary to his real motives for resigning.
