Geraldo: Portland Mayor and Oregon Governor ‘Are Part of the Problem’ – But, ‘Here Comes Donald Trump’

By Craig Bannister | September 1, 2020 | 10:30am EDT

As President Donald Trump prepares to visit riot-ravaged Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday, Democrats are afraid he’ll expose their incompetent response to the violent protests and hold them accountable, Political Analyst Gerald Rivera says in his daily video.

Democrats are actually trying to pull off “an audacious bait-and-switch” by blaming Pres. Trump for the violent riots that they denied were occurring the past four months, Rivera says:

“In an audacious bait-and-switch, Democrats have been claiming for four months that the looting, the violence, and the disorder are just peaceful protests – now, Joe Biden and company are admitting that the upheavals are, indeed, riots, they’re riots.

Yep, there are some violent people rioting and destroying property.

In Donald Trump’s America. Maybe we need a change.

All I remember about Geraldo Rivera is this:
On April 21, 1986, Rivera hosted The Mystery of Al Capone’s Vaults . The special broadcast was billed as the unearthing of Capone’s secret vaults located under the old Lexington Hotel in Chicago. Millions of people watched the 2-hour show, but all that they uncovered was dirt. In a 2016 interview with the Chicago Tribune , Rivera commented, “It was an amazingly high profile program — maybe the highest profile program I’ve ever been associated with.” [25]
What an embarrassment. He lost all credibility after that.

Again, @PaulinVA, the democrats are behind all the chaos and are even bailing out many arrested with a fund set up.

Who are “the democrats” behind the chaos? “Behind the chaos” means planning, organizing, and funding. “The Democrats”, I assume, mean Democratic leaders.

So, who are they?

Democratic mayors who have been in charge of the cities for years. Is not a change needed at the local level where the responsibility lies for the police departments in question? For the allowance of riots and looting?

That’s not a responsive answer. The mayors are not planning, organizing, and funding the protests.

Republicans have, indeed, shown people in cities that there is no reason to vote for them. However, the violence has only started recently. What has happened recently, I wonder. Who has created a climate of hate and divisiveness?

Good question @PaulinVA?

You don’t like the answer.

Who has been creating chaos and havoc in our country since Hillary lost in 2016? Yes, the democrats.

President Trump has been working hard at running the country and dealing with everything the democrats
have thrown at him since he beat Hillary in November of 2016. On top of the democrats, along comes the
pandemic and the democrats politicized that also.

They allow the looting and rioting take place! How long was Chaz allowed to exist?
Why the free pass for Democratic mayors who are in charge of those cities? Why do you not feel the need to hold them accountable for issuing “stand down” orders? Also the same cities where protesters have issues with the police departments that roll up to those mayors?

So riots never happened under Obama? Furguson? It is totally laughable to blame a Republican president who has been in office for 4 years when Democrats have controlled those cities for decades.

Sorry, this is just not true.
President Trump has been working hard at running the country and dealing with everything the democratshave thrown at him since he beat Hillary in November of 2016.
Trump has been working hard watching TV, golfing, and tweeting crazy things.
On top of the democrats, along comes thepandemic and the democrats politicized that also.
Trump is the one who turned every coronavirus press conference into a campaign rally. Trump is the one who said there was no problem, it would go away. Trump was the one who politicized it.

I’m not defending the Democrats. As a matter of fact, you make some good points.

I’m troubled by the underlying causes of the riots, and the divisiveness that has festered for the past three years.

I don’t think little pockets of protests and rioting that rise up and go away compare with what’s happening now.

I blame this on the national climate. The individual mayors don’t control or influence that.

I really do believe there is a policy of denial now. I mean, really to blame the president?

Minneapolis, my understanding is that even that choke-hold that was used, knee on neck was an approved policy by the city (and police department too), but no, we see blame being asserted to others.

I think the acts of Antifa, BLM is largely controlled by some sorts of special interests. Whom they are?? I think there has been some evidence that “deep pockets” helped this, people being bused into places (which depending, may not have been a large part of the unrest) and those bail funds.

Regarding the national climate: First, Trump is a divisive character. This is a function of personality, but also his policies. His win was a total surprise to the Dems (just ask the people who Hillary threw stuff at on election night). They thought they would lock up the SCOTUS for decades. The vitriol, especially around Kavanaugh, was off the chart. If Trump wins again, he’ll get another 2 or 3 SCOTUS picks. In addition to policies, Trump fights back against the media, thus the vast majority of stories are negative and stoke the fire.
Second, there is a very leftist movement gaining power: The Squad, the acceptance of politicians who openly identify as Democratic Socialist, like Sanders. This shift moves the Democratic party far left of Obama, who was way further left than Bill Clinton.
Third, the lack of condemnation, and in some cases defense of, the violence of antifa by Democrat politicians and the MSM.

I’m sure there are other reasons, but it just ain’t Trump. Its also the degree to which people are willing to go to oppose a president who policies they abhor.

Just my 2 cents

And a surprise to the Republicans. Agree on your assessment.

Yes, this is troubling. I would say it’s not just the party, though. Twenty somethings are totally onboard with Democratic Socialism, from what I’ve seen.
Third, the lack of condemnation, and in some cases defense of, the violence of antifa by Democrat politicians and the MSM.
But, there is also a lack of condemnation of the white supremacy and associated rhetoric from he Republicans.

I think that the country is extremely polarized. Partly, I blame gerrymandering, as I’ve said before. Safe seats enable more far left and far right politicians to be elected.

Donald Trump has zero to do with it. Zero, nothing, not one iota.

The police in Portland are directed by and run by the mayor. The mayor sets the culture and practice of the police. The mayor has been directly complicit in the violence by allowing it to continue for three months.
The mayor is complicit and directly responsible. Government has one main job: protect individual rights. The mayor has made a conscious and intentional choice to not do that one primary job.

I’m troubled by the fact that you seem to forget about the eight prior years. Are you also blaming Obama and Biden for the riots in Ferguson and Milwaukee ? Or are they a Trump’s fault, too.

Depends. I agree that condemnation is well deserved (and necessary) for the David Duke types. However, I am seeing an ever expanding definition of racist / white supremacist to include just about any white person who disagrees with a progressive on the politics associated with race, or from what I’ve heard about White Fragility, any defense whatsoever against charges of being a racist is evidence of being a racist. I remember watching a CNN or MSNBC segment around the 2012 election, and hearing a black politician or pundit say that “its racist to not vote for Obama.” The definition of white supremacist or racist is so watered down, primarily because of some on the left’s desire to use it as a political weapon.

You now have my 4 cents

He sets the tone of the country.

Why do you think the protests centered in the FEDERAL building?
Because the rioters are disintegrationists, Marxists who want to destroy the country.
Trump has done more on criminal justice reform than Obama and Biden did in the entire political careers combined.

Question: were the riots in Milwaukee in 2016 and in Ferguson Obama’s fault?
