Bishop Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, said this:
Bishop Bode…I respectfully call you as one bishop to another to return to the truth of the Deposit of Faith for your salvation and for the good of the Church. Your statement that Christ became a human being but not a man is ridiculous & heretical. I cannot stand by in silence!
Bishop Strickland explained this very well.
But, I have been getting used to unorthodox statements from some German bishops for a long time. Some of them are heterodox.
Luckily, almost every single priest and bishop is orthodox. Only a tiny, small amount are not. The reason why we hear about the unorthodoxy of some of them is because the ones we hear about are literally the only ones out of 5,500 bishops, and 415,000 priests who say these things. It’s a tiny proportion that are unorthodox.
There are many countries in the world that are just as liberal or even more liberal than Germany (such as my own country New Zealand, Australia, the UK, France) and bishops from those countries never say heterodox things.
I suspect it is all to do with the Church tax, and making sure the German Church doesn’t lose money by giving into the demands of society.
