Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich has cautioned German Catholics that they should not expect dramatic change in Church policy as a result of the October meeting of the Synod of Bishops.
Cardinal Marx-- who has been an outspoken proponent of allowing divorced and remarried Catholics to receive Communion-- said that it “will not be simple” to bring about such a change. He suggested that the Synod may not be ready to approve the policy, which has already won endorsement from the German bishops’ conference, which Cardinal Marx heads.
The cautionary statement from Cardinal Marx, made in a meeting in Munich, may indicate that the German prelate is recognizing the strength of opposition to the “Kasper proposal” among the world’s bishops.

Hallelujah.
Christ said that the gates of the Netherworld would not defeat His Church! 🙂

Yet we could certainly keep those divorced and seeking a decree of nullity in our prayers. More pastoral care would be wonderful in these situations instead of just what seems to be like an endless “paperwork chase” of questionnaires and witness hunting etc.

Mary.

Some prelates no doubt desired some minor changes that would not repudiate the Church’s sacred traditions, but as a result thereof lot of people have developed an unrealistic expectation on the outcome of the Synod. Cardinal Marx is doing the right thing by calling them down to earth.

Its also not a $ecret why Cardinal Marx and the German bishops are looking for changes like this.

Father Longenecker said that when certain parts of the Anglicans wanted things they just voted again and again until they got what they wanted.

Its still important to remain vigilant. Its not unheard of to calm the opposition and then slip changes right under their noses when theyre calm and not paying close attention. I hope everything turns out for the best.
