Germany’s Roman Catholic Church, an influential voice for reforms prompted by Pope Francis, has decided lay employees who divorce and remarry or form gay civil unions should no longer automatically lose their jobs.
Catholic bishops have voted to adjust Church labor law “to the multiple changes in legal practice, legislation and society” so employee lifestyles should not affect their status in the country’s many Catholic schools, hospitals and social services…
Over two-thirds of Germany’s 27 dioceses voted for the change, a Church spokesman said, indicating some opposition.
There is no worldwide Catholic policy on lay employees. German law allows churches to have their own labor rules that can override national guidelines.
But German courts have begun limiting the scope of Church labor laws and public opinion reacts badly when a Catholic hospital’s head doctor is fired for remarrying or a teacher is sacked after her lesbian union is discovered.
Thought this was also interesting
Catholics in Germany also criticized the lack of “discussion of contraception methods.”
They added that several dioceses and associations want a consideration of the Orthodox practice of second marriages after divorce: “it is also proposed to consider blessing a second (civil) marriage, which should however be quite distinct from a church marriage in liturgical terms.”

Amen. A very charitable reaction by the German Bishops.

Peace and all good!

Yes, it’s quite charitable to undermine Church teaching for the sake of being nice.
In your (understandable) emotional haste, you seem to have not read the OP carefully, so let me copy and paste it here for your reconsideration:

Germany’s Roman Catholic Church, an influential voice for reforms prompted by Pope Francis, has decided lay employees who divorce and remarry or form gay civil unions should no longer automatically lose their jobs.

The key word is “automatically”.

This does not mean divorced and remarried employees or employees involved in gay civil unions would not face termination if they vocalized their sinfulness in the execution of their positions, it simply means that sinfulness will not be the impetus for (again, “automatic”) termination.

If sinfulness was disqualifying for paid or unpaid, lay or ordained and/or religious, positions within the Church, the Church could not exist. If that were the case, you and I would both be prohibited from serving in Parish Ministries.

Taking the livelihood or careers away from people is the tactic least likely to every allow those living in sin to soften their hearts and convert back to the ways of God.

With all that said and done, the elimination of “automatic” termination is very charitable and just, as long as balanced with vigilance and more decisive action when necessary.

Love and compassion never undermines Church teaching.

Peace and all good!

Maybe as Catholics it may be more appropriate to obsessed with paedophilia than gaydom

Yes, I agree my response was emotional and automatic. I apologize. And I also agree that if I were living in sin with no intention of changing my ways (like remarrying without annulment or in a homosexual union) then I shouldn’t be allowed to be in any church ministry.

If this ruling allows for better teaching of God’s laws, I’m all for it. However, my pessimism makes we wonder if we are just allowing more exceptions and excuses for sin.

This may be a reaction to a lawsuit brought by a catholic physician to keep his job after he remarried. The high court in Germany decided that the Church has every right to dismiss him in 2014.
The Catholic hospital in Düsseldorf had employed the plaintiff since January 1, 2000 as head physician in the department of internal medicine. He was at that point still married to his first wife.
I am sure this set out a barrage of anger as many people are divorced in Germany.

From article posted…
Vatican City, May 2, 2015 / 05:44 pm (CNA).- The Synod of Bishops began receiving in April responses to a questionnaire that had been sent to dioceses the world over in preparation for October’s Synod on the Family. The results from Germany indicate that most Catholics there hope for an openness to divorce and remarriage, as well as homosexual acts.
The Bishops did a survey apparently and the results which filled 1000 pages are addressed in a 17 page letter.

Changes had been taking place as mentioned in article
Instead, the German bishops referred to their June 2014 resolution to admit the divorced and remarried to Confession and Communion even if they do not resolve to live in continence.
The German bishops seem to want to take a softer approach, so it appears they will now allow divorced and civil union partners to continue to serve, I would guess.

Someone asked about the labor law
The Church has adjusted its labor laws to reflect the changes.

Here is a better article…
In a 12 May interview with the US-based Catholic News Service, Mr Bolzenius said current church rules had posed “major problems”, especially for non-Catholic employees at German hospitals, half of which are church-owned.

Except that pedophiles are not marching in the streets demanding special rights nor are the family members of pedophiles rolling up their sleeves attacking Christians. For one thing, it’s nowhere near as safe (at least for now), popular and EASY to do as defending so-called gay “marriage”.

If sharia law, Russia, Iran or China took over the West, we would see public support for so-called gay “marriage” drop like anvil on Wiley E. Coyote cartoon, and pride parades would be a thing of thing of past. There would be no gallant rebellion, no more “standing up for MY FRIENDS” because my favorite actor/ pop musician said so.

Additionally, pedopohiles are not suing businesses asking them to accommodate their lifestyle nor are they insisting that schools teach kindergarteners about it and then have the audacity to ask over and over “oh yeah? how does it affect YOU?”

It has become a US/european union/western religious and sacred value, countries under that sphere of influence are in denial if they think it wont be legalized and vicosulsy enforced by the media and outside forces where they live . Will the rest of the world cave in or will the west wake up?

Hmm, maybe, but do we really want to emulate the culture and the practices of these countries you enumerate, like Iran?

We need to be obsessed with both. One brought on the other. Once the homosexuals were allowed to be priests, it brought on the abuse of children.

Need more proof, do some research. Children of homosexual parents in a homosexual “union” are more likely to be sexually abused than children of heterosexual parents.

One immoral behavior usual brings on additional immoral behaviors.

I’m sorry, that is an absurd supposition. Homosexuality is not the same as pedophilia. The first does not prompt the second. And if you yourself had done any legitimate research, you would realize that. And you would realize that the overwhelming majority of pedophiles are heterosexual.

I’d like to see a source for these claims.
