Except pedophiles were shielded from the authorities and in practice, supported by the Church (In the sense that the Church allowed pedophile priests to continue on in their way, where more children were victimized). Meanwhile, the Church speaks loudly on the sinfulness of homosexuality as if it is the ultimate evil (which I believe pedophilia ranks among the worst of evils).

Hypocrisy.

No, it is not absurd at all. Both are deviate sexual “practices” and indeed one deviate practice leads to another. Simple math tells you that because 5% (estimated) of the population is homosexual, that of course most pedophiles will be heterosexual. But the percentage of homosexuals who are also pedophiles is extremely high. The Man/Boy Love Association is a homosexual group and a formal pedophilia group that is pretty open about their activities mainly being sex between men and underage boys.
