That is contrary to the evangelical mission of the Church. She already has the tool to deal with heresy, excommunication. Which does not separate from the Church, but only from her sacramental life. The idea being to correct, not punish, and get the heretic to repent. Booting someone out is in any case not possible. It’s not the Church’s job to cut someone off from the source of salvation. It’s her job to bring the errant sheep back to the fold, on her shoulders if need be.Yeah, there is a double standard on the forums for sure. I’m rooting for the German Church to separate. Better out than in my grandma used to say when she burped.
We remain Catholic from our baptism forward. That is Church teaching. Some people of good will (let’s start from a position of charity) see benefit in change while still remaining profoundly attached to the Church and her sacraments. Many times these positions come from some of their own deep hurts, for whatever reason.I don’t understand why so many people - even clergy! - want to change Catholic teaching. We do not live in an age where you are forced to be a Catholic if you don’t agree with it.
In that thread which I created I also posted articles by Fr. Thomas Weinandy regarding Vigano which commented on the German Church.Recently there was a thread on here questioning whether or not Archbishop Vigano was promoting schism with his questioning of Vatican ll. Many who responded to that thread agreed that he in fact was, with some not too kind words for the Archbishop. But what these German bishops are promoting is heretical…no? I mean, who’s the most serious threat to the Catholic Faith here??? Or am I missing something?
I agree with you that excommunication should be used much more freely as a tool to bring people back to Christ (medicine for the soul). It is for their souls which we worry, and the damage their actions do to the souls of others. That is contrary to the evangelical mission of the Church. I remember reading an article a while back where the author spelled out the overall strategy for a particular controversial topic (my memory fails, but I believe it was regarding same sex marriage). He said the first step was to get tolerance, but his longer term goals were “acceptance” and then “celebration.” People get their feelings hurt when others view their behaviors, views and practices as wrong…mere tolerance is not good enough.I don’t understand why so many people - even clergy! - want to change Catholic teaching. The only things this can bring are confusion, sin, damnation for the willing and fully knowing participants, agony and possible damnation for those woefully misinformed and misunderstood. I pray the Pope puts an end to this heresy. This article is recent, from yesterday. https://m.ncregister.com/blog/edwar...-defining-fertility-to-include-same-sex-and-o
Interesting. It makes one wonder why this kind of confusion is allowed to fester for so long to begin with!I pray the Pope puts an end to this heresy.
