I think Maggie’s too angry to listen.

I begged for mercy, quoted Scipture and the Verba Senorum, and you see the response I got.

It’s really too bad, what brings us into the Kingdom is God’s mercy and love. We have to know that we are Sinners in need of Saving, but if all we had was the recognition of our wretched situation, we’d do what Judas did and go hang ourselves. What brings us back like St. Peter is the knowledge that Jesus died for each one of us and that He forgives each one of us.

I get the feeling a few of the posters have forgotten that.

In Christ, Michael
Then I think you have no clue what I feel. I do not care for the mealy mouth idea that YOUR are OK. I am OK…but don’t dare stand up for anything…Let alone “Christ and Holy Mother Church!” Let us all get along and commit mahem in the name of **SO CAllLED CHARITY! ** Not gonna happen PC people. Pull out all your little arrows…they will NOT kill me or Holy Mother Church. 😉 So just whine away…I have better fish to fry. :rotfl:

You would be absolutely balistic, if I CALLED your Father or Mother a Waste and a Heretic! Well, poopkins 😉 …that is what MATATICS HAS DONE TO MY CHURCH. I suggest you don’t do the same.

But where there Bishop of Rome is, there is the Catholic Church. One who separates from him, separates from the Church.

There you go again…The thread is **NOT ** about you or about me. It is about Gerry…who attested **in his own writing ** to oppose MY church…MY Pope, My Lord and Apostolic Secession. Not your church. Not your belief. So don’t expect ME to bow to your belief and method of judging an apostate… Love ya, but you do not have a say in my church.
Wow, such righteous indignation… . I guess just because TradiationalAng is not Catholic, he can’t suggest ways to deal with an errant brother in Christ in a manner that is charitable and truly Christian? Are you saying that only Catholics can look after Catholics? I can see the vitriol in these posts that TraditionalAng and Jaypeeto3 have been referring to. Come on, “just don’t get in my face”–is that a Christian thing to say when the other person is simply expressing his opinion? Nobody in this thread has ever said that Matatics is right in attacking the Church, or that charity means excusing Matatics behavior, so chill! Do you think YOU’RE the only one who is upset with what happened to Matatics?

Yes, it is sad that pride has gotten into Gerry Matatics, a person who has staunchly defended Catholic doctrine but has now seem to have taken a heretical position. However, I’m not the Church and I certainly don’t want to judge anyone, just his actions. There are many ways to respond to people like Matatics: 1) Don’t care at all, 2) Scream HERETIC! APOSTATE! Matatics has spent 20 years being a nitwit (oh, and pray for him), thump your chest or risk an aneurism because those non-Catholics don’t seem to get it (oh, and roll your eyes), or 3) like some people implied in these posts, be more charitable to those who left. It could mean to pray for the person’s reunification with the Church, and at the same time extend a hand to that person so that he will come back to the flock, and point out the person’s mistake (with charity, of course). Heck, write to Matatics and address your concerns about his errors.

It does no good to throw names like “brain dead”, “nitwit”, or “sinful twit” and it is certainly UNcharitable and UNChristian to do so. I’ll be surprised if the Catholic Church has ever won a convert/revert by calling someone names. OK, so Matatics pronouncements were prideful and wrong/heretical, I second that. Maybe the “venomous attack of Mr Matatics on the church deserves all the strong language of disgust and repudiation a True Catholic and Traditionaist wishs[sic] to express”. Or maybe we should approach this problem carefully with more humility and patience, virtues that Matatics should witness from his faithful brethren in Christ and virtues that are clearly lacking in these posts. Just my 2 cents.

Peace. From your sister in Christ.

Thank you for the defense. St. Hippolytus of Rome was just one of those heretics (he’s listed as an Antipope) who was brought home due to the mercy of God.

newadvent.org/cathen/07360c.htm

The Pope, Pontianus, whom he called Heretic and worse, gently brought him back to the Church, so he died a Catholic and a Martyr instead of a heretic, at about the same time as his then friend, Pope Pontianus, who had given up the Papacy so a new Pope could be elected. Both of their bodies were brought back to Rome after they died - Pontianus burried in what is now the Vatican and Hippolytus in the cemetery on the Via Tiburtina, further evidence of there mutual reconciation as well as of Hippolytus’ to the Church.

The Second Eucharistic Prayer in the Missellette is also known as “The Canon of Hippolytus” as it’s a translation of the one he wrote down in the 3rd Century, AD.

What Pope Pontianus did, bringing in a heretic and a schismatic who was questioning not only his authority, but that of the whole Church, is one reason I think those who are anthemetizing and spewing venom at Gerry Matitics might just have it wrong.

NO matter how angry I am at the man, I do not want Gerry to go to hell - It’s reserved for the devil and his angels, and our Lord died so that we wouldn’t have to go there unless we chose it.

Thank you. Pax Vobiscum, Michael

A lot of good points have been made in this discussion of Mr. Matatics by those on both sides of the argument. Unfortunately, they were liberally interspersed with unnecessary personal attacks and the thread has degenerated to the point where “charity” is something that is claimed by all but demonstrated by few.
**The original thread was so bad that it has been removed from the board to keep our visitors from seeing it. If any of you were a non-Catholic interested in learning about the Church, what impression of Her would you get by reading this thread? If any of the staff has the time, patience and inclination to clean it up, if indeed that is possible, it will be moved back and reopened. **

**A general warning to all participants (if the shoe fits…): If this or any other subject in this forum is discussed in the same manner, suspensions will be passed out without further notice. **

Yours in Christ,
Walt
