Or do what parent did before- 1) fight 'em in the PTA 2) Home school kids if you are that savy or 3) private school if you have the $ or can get scholarships.

This is hogwash. You are making blanket stereotypes. Every school is different. Factors include socioeconomics, cultural influences, urban/rural, funding sources, state constitutions, and many more.

These kinds of attacks make me so angry.

You are spewing poison. Please quit the vitriol. Your blanket stereotypes are unfounded and not true of all public schools.

What makes a school a bad school? Test scores? Guess what? The biggest determining factor of whether a school’s test scores are low, is poverty. Rich kids do better on tests. Poor kids do worse. The research is clear and comprehensive.

It is hardly “hogwash”, nor is it a stereotype. The statement made is a generalization, not stereotype. You used this exact type of statement yourself, saying, “Rich kids do better on tests. Poor kids do worse.” You did not mean that all poor children perform poorly, but that they generally perform worse.

Accusing someone of poison or vitriol because you disagree with them can easily be seen as its own type of bullying, extreme rhetoric designed to shut off disagreement. I do not know how true the socialism element is, but I know personally of too many cases where a school has engaged in training children from the youngest ages to be accepting of sexual deviancy to disregard that as stereotyping.

When you say you “personally know”, do you really mean personally? Or are you going off of what someone else claimed or what you read about? I only ask because in over a decade working in public schools, I’ve haven’t personally encountered even one instance of training students in accepting sexual deviancy. I HAVE heard maybe a handful of direct accusations, as in “so and such school is doing this or that” as opposed to “public schools train students to accept sexual deviancy”, but not one accusation has ended up amounting to any more than the school allowing a homosexual or transsexual student or employee to attend or work there, use school facilities, without harassment. These claims that 1st graders are being read story books to indoctrinate them or show never turn out to be accurate. The people that make these claims read a story on the internet and then swear the same thing happened at their niece’s school. The fact is, it’s a dishonest generalization because it is based on a handful of actual confirmed incidents that happened over decades amidst thousands and thousands of schools.

We’ve got a huge problem with our public schools brainwashing our kids into favoring socialism over our largely Free Market system. And they do not teach true American history, and what a great country America is. Public schools are also teaching our kids all sorts of unacceptable oddball sexual things at very young ages.

That’s my point. Kids of all socioeconomic backgrounds should have a choice to attend a better school.

You’re not getting it. It’s not the school, it’s the families. It’s children living in poverty. It’s children with parents working multiple part time jobs to make ends meet and aren’t there to send their kids to school in the morning. The schools are not the problem.

I respect those parents who work multiple jobs to make ends meet, and raise a family. Very difficult.

And you base these assertions on what data?

These examples are specific to certain schools or districts. Show me some National Education Standards that push the “liberal agenda.” Show me National legislation that requires schools to teach about transgender curriculums. I can give you examples of specific schools with a “racist agenda.” Just this week, there were a bunch of teachers in Idaho that dressed up as “Mexicans” with fake black mustaches and sombreros. That is equally isolated and not indicative of schools across this nation.

Again, how much time have you spent in a public school system? My guess is that you have not spent any time in them recently or at all. Are you relying on sources that you know will support your agenda?

I have a transgender student in my class right now. I only know this because the counselor gave me a heads up. It is a non-issue. We don’t discuss it because we are too busy learning about our content area. I treat him as a person with respect and dignity, the same as I try to treat all of my students.

Thanks for you interest in this topic. Here are a few examples that might help if you need to discuss with anyone:
😂

You are so welcome for my interest in this topic… seeing as I first posted on this thread back in September!

Perhaps you didn’t bother to read any of the posts before you posted? Don’t worry, it happens all the time around here, especially when there on hundreds of posts already. Still, one should always browse through all the previous posts to see what has already been said, argued, backed up with evidence, etc.

I am a public school teacher (20+ years) and the mom of a high school freshman – so my “need to discuss” this topic is pretty high and fairly frequent.

Your links are all extremely conservative groups that have a history of hating the public school system while not able to provide any reasonable alternative to educating all the youth of the USA.

In any event, I’m asking for research and data – not opinion based on anecdotes.

Carry on. I’ve got work to get done this weekend so I can keep a promise to my students.

Actually making a difference in my students’ lives is more important than arguing online with total strangers. 👵🚬
