Jesus told us that to be angry at another human being is a sin.
I don’t think it is a sin to get angry. I think Jesus said somewhere in the bible that it is ok to be angry so long that anger doesn’t make you fall into sin, and also that our anger shall last only up to before sunset.

Surely the issue is about whether you are inflicting suffering on the animal. An animal can’t understand language or hatred so your words will not bother it. However animals can understand aggression, depending on the animal its response would be either fear or reciprocal aggression or both. It’s probably not nice to frighten animals but ultimately harmless.
The issue becomes more clear cut if we are talking about physically harming or causing pain to an animal. If the animal has the capability to feel pain and suffer, as all mammals clearly do, then it is ethically wrong to cause that other being suffering for no good reason, ie. to merely express your hatred or annoyance.
Surely this is easily thought out using your own internal moral compass. Afterall if we look to the bible for advice on this we come back with man having dominion over all animals inferring that we have the right to treat them as we please - not the kind of society I want to live in.

Anger is a sign that tells us that an injustice has occurred. We can react to our feelings of anger in sinful ways, or we can react productively, by removing the source of the injustice.

If an animal violates my personal space (jumps on me, for example), an injustice has taken place. QUOTE]

I would say that anger more often results from frustration, not ā€œinjusticeā€. A dog jumping on your lap is not an injustice!šŸ™‚ It is just something that happened to frustrate you, perhaps because you might get dirty pants or furniture, hardly an injustice.

Hmm, I don’t remember that.

Although, if it is in the Bible, I wonder if this is where the ā€œdon’t go to bed madā€ came from.

i think getting angry at an animal is different from rebuking humans. it is same as getting angry at things, situations, events etc. animals are the part of the creation, not humans. you don’t commit a sin when you cut a tree. do you?
If you’re an evironmentalist it might be. šŸ˜›

I think it has something to do with psychology. The REM and brain chemistry and what have you. I dont know, Google it. haha šŸ˜›

Actually the scenario I was thinking of was, when you’re walking to Church, and then someone’s unleashed dog comes bounding up and jumps on you to try to have sex with you - I find that very annoying.

Dolphins are things, not persons. Babies a persons, not things. The treatment of a thing cannot be prepared that to a person.
Agreed šŸ‘
That being said, why is extermination of cute animals bad, but ā€œuglyā€ ones good? No animal should be ā€œexterminated with extreme prejudice.ā€ AL have a role in God’s creation, even the annoying or ugly ones.
Agreed, I will go one further, its not so much a cuteness question as it is a matter of size.Bigger the animal, the more of the fuss (whales, elephants, Rhinos)
Always found it interesting that these two views could exist in the same society:
  1. Its ok to call the exterminator since insects interfere with your home.
  2. Its ok to not buy tuna from a company that happens to snag a dolphin in their fishing nets from time to time, the fisherman’s livelihood be darned.
Side note
What about ticks on a dog? Should we attempt to save the ticks?

Great white sharks are endangered as well. Where do I sign up for the ā€œSave the Sharksā€ campaign?

What about people who do not differentiate between animals? The way I see it, its ok and only ok to kill an animal if it will negatively affect your life in some way, however I always do this with a heavy heart. When I have to kill cockroaches or get rid of my dogs’ ticks, I say a prayer to God.

Laugh at me or call me a bleeding heart liberal if you want, I know im at peace with myself. 🤷

There are such campaigns. Also campaigns to save Tasmanian devils and other predators which do not fall within the usual range of ā€˜cuteness’. One of the great things about being human is the ability to use our intelligence and reason to look beyond our ourselves and our own immediate desires and needs for survival.

I have to realize that animals are things, and killing an animal does not carry the sme moral weight as killing a person. We are not free to just ā€œdo as we pleaseā€ with animals, but there is no reason to mourn any animal.

What reason is there to mourn a person then? What I mean to say is, we are not to blame for our natural feelings. It is sad if someone is not close enough to say, a grandparent that they will not mourn them when they die, however such a thing could be simply a result of circumstances and so it would not be a sin for the person to not mourn. As long as they are respectful etc.

People often do not understand why other people mourn for the pets. The only thing I can say is that not understanding something does not make it wrong. Unlike things like homosexuality, I think this is one of the areas where you just have to say, to each their own. Loving animals is not a sin, and neither is disliking them in your thoughts.

Getting angry at an animal is irrational but not a sin. However it should be kept in check so as to prevent anything being done physically to the animal.

No less innocent than what? A baby?
Well yes. One does not have to even like dolphins to know that, by being a non-human animal, it lacks free will and thus is largely an innocent creature.

Animals and young children have a lot in common this way, and perhaps this is why sometimes they seem to have an affinity šŸ™‚

An animal is a thing, not a person.

I read that the first time you posted it, thanks.
An accepted opinion but still not sure how it is relevant?
You seem to think animals have the same dignity as persons, which they do not.
