I’m going to have to unsubscribe. Any time a thread devolves into “Harry Potter is occult,” nothing productive ever results. If we’re going to talk about how damaging superstition is, I’ll make a point before I leave. We should not be so Puritanical as to believe that the mere mention of the word “magic” or “ghost” is going to turn our children into occultist pagans. I have a detailed response to this line of thinking, but I know it won’t be accepted, so with that I will take my leave.

Ghosts aren’t real, magic doesn’t exist, and the mere knowledge and mention of a topic does not corrupt children into occultists.

My cousin worked at Barnes and Noble (or maybe it was Borders) and quit because they sold and heavily promoted HP.

Why would the bible warn against such things, if they are not even real?

You are right about the mentioning of ghosts or magic to kids though, but it does open them to further conditioning down the road, that is where it gets dangerous.

There is a crucial distinction between the so-called magic of this world practiced by occultists and the magic in Harry Potter and other works of fiction and fantasy. This should be obvious.

What the Bible refers to as magic is explicitly referenced as divination, attempting to communicate with the dead, and other things, including the summoning and attempted command of demons. Any alleged supernatural magic in this world is caused by and orchestrated by demons.

The magic in Harry Potter is obviously nothing like what one finds in occultism, and was never intended to be in any way similar. It is akin to superpowers found in comics if anything. To try to equate the two is at best ignorant and at worst intentionally misleading.

It is prudent for us not to become scrupulous in this kind of thing. Avoid it if you wish, by all means, but don’t attempt to allege that fantasy and fiction are actively leading children into occultism. Church leaders, including the Pope, have already spoken on the matter of Harry Potter and other such topics. If one is unable to separate the world in a fantasy novel and setting from reality, the problem is not in the book, but in the reader’s inability to separate reality from fiction. Individuals who struggle with this should avoid these topics, but I do find it disingenuous to decry something as evil because it may be unsuitable for certain audiences.

I’d concur in that.

Anybody turning to HP seeking “witchcraft and wizardry” would be disappointed; it is just a British school-fiction series with a fantasy twist.

I thought it as cute for kids (only read the first book), but like I said, I did wonder if it was occultic. Didn’t a Pope say it was ok to read/watch?

I like ghost adventures, in my opinion this is a legitimate ghost hunting team.

Since I don’t get out too often, I have directTV with a lot of channels. Seems those “ghost” are on nearly all the time all over the place.

One of the programs is Baptist, and they close their program with prayer "In JesusName Aymen.

They get even more ubiquitous around Halloween.

Ghost adventures in my opinion is a team that investigates well, they seem to be truthful about the stuff they see.

That’s what I sometimes think. I mean they debunk stuff that they know to not be supernatural. But if the ghosts are real, what are they? Demons ?

I know.

They have gone on investigations, were they say something and the entity knocks or hits something. Zac then says, do you want us to say a prayer so you can rest in peace, and the knocks happens again.

Are they demons? Probably, some are.

Are these the spirits of people who are not resting in peace? Oh yes

Doesn’t your second expanation go against our faith?

I’ve seen that show a couple of times and can’t change channels fast enough. It has to be one of the stupidest things anyone has ever wasted time on…

I find it very disrespectful ,if these really are tortured souls (and that’s a pretty big if), that these hustlers are ordering them about for their own enrichment. It’s pure sleaze.

Its a TV show, its for entertainment…NOTHING on tv is ‘reality’ its all highly scripted and well planned out, of course they will say its real, and will make it look real, thats their job.

Remember the old MSNBC show ‘To catch a Predator’? That was billed as being 100% real when it was on as well…yet not long after, even it was proven to be scripted and fake.

Dont you find it strange that at least a couple times on EVERY single episode, there is a scary moment or two, people screaming out, terrified, they hear a noise, see a shadow, etc etc…when it comes to REAL ‘ghost investigations’ teams may go months or years without finding or seeing anything, and its usually not as dramatic either…cmon. lol

I did say something a,week or two, think IRL, that I found it odd that every location has something happen.

Having said that, how d you explain chairs tipping over or EVPs?

If something didn’t happen, there wouldn’t be a show.

Are you suggesting they’d it? I don’t think they are.
No, I’m saying that if they go somewhere and don’t see ghosts, the episode won’t be produced.

So everywhere you see them, there will be a ghost.
