I know a middle aged lady who is a manager at one of my stores, she can see spirits of the deceased, she proved this beyond doubt the first day I met her, she said she has always see these things, even as a child.

Im not sure what she is actually seeing, but it is strange that she says all these spirits appear to be going about their daily lives, like they were not aware they were dead, one man in particular, she said his spirit was doing the same duties he used to do when he was alive in and around the store, but they dont seem to recognize or pay any attention to the living.

Its strange to me that someone would be given a gift like this in the first place, what is the purpose of her being able to see these things?
Several years ago I saw one of those ghost hunting shows where they brought in someone who could supposedly see spirits of the dead. At the time, they were investigating a haunting at a lighthouse. As usual, they said that the spiritualist was not told about the investigation, but was brought in to see if he could “confirm” the haunting.

Well, the spiritualist said he made contact with the spirit of a past lighthouse keeper. There had been other reports of sightings of this lighthouse keeper, who was always seen filling up a bucket with water and carrying it to the lighthouse. This “spirit” reportedly told the psychic that for all eternity he would have to fill the bucket and carry the water----back and forth without end. If true, I can only think that the lighthouse keeper had lived a life of futility, and that was his “sentence”

I have read Catholic mystics who have said those in hell or purgatory suffer according to their sins on earth. For example, if someone was a thief, for all eternity their greatest suffering would be painful hands, etc. This almost sounds like the psychic could have had a true experience–something that would confirm what the afterlife could be like.

I think that perhaps some people just have the ability to see things that others aren’t able to see. 🙂

My impression totally. From my own experience.

Some places seem to “hold” suffering and many cannot feel that.

This lady I know cannot communicate in anyway with the spirits, she can only see them. She never described anyone suffering in anyway though, she said it just looks like they are going about their daily routines, from when they were alive.

Its really hard to say what she is truly seeing, she may not be seeing an actual spirit, maybe just ‘something’ constantly replaying over and over again, but its nothing significant, just normal daily things, we all do everyday, like getting coffee, grabbing a newspaper, etc.

I still say ‘ghosts’ are probably something we cannot understand, and we only try to define them based on what we know and think, maybe the truth about them is so bizarre or strange, it would not make any sense to us…just saying, its probably not so cut and dry.

People need to remember, no one ever said mankind understood every single thing that existed and knew whats it purpose was…there is PLENTY we do not understand about the world, some things , we are just not meant to know about, or its something that has little impact on our existence.

Just because we do not understand it, does not mean, its fake and doenst exist. LOL

:yup: totally agree. IMHO people are too quick to ascribe to demons everything they don’t understand. These things could be real. I don’t think everything comes down to “fallen angels appearing as deceased persons”. There are too many Catholic Mystics who really believe they’ve had visitations from people in Purgatory. And I don’t think we can say, well those might be real, but everything else is false. We just don’t know. If we can gain a meaningful and life-altering message from and “incident”, maybe it’s good to pay attention, but still weigh it against Jesus’ words and church teaching before we either believe or disregard it.

I agree with your post.

I think about what’s in the Bible, too. People experienced demons in the Bible. We already have a basis for spirits, there.

That’s true, and unusual experiences should not be dismissed out of hand.

On the other hand, if we don’t have a solid understanding of a phenomenon, we should be careful not to go beyond what we know until we have reason to do so.

This very thread shows that we do not have an agreed-upon, operational definition for what a ghost is or how one works. Yet our pop-culture ghost hunters go into situations as though they know way more than they do. When we don’t even know what ghosts are or how they relate to the physical world, how are tools like the ubiquitous EMF meter useful? Why jump to an attempt to “communicate with the spirit” before you establish that there’s a spirit present to communicate with? And why in the world wander around in the dark jumping at shadows? That might look good on TV, but it’s not how any other kind of professional investigator goes about things.

A better approach is to start from the claimed phenomenon itself. If someone saw a translucent humanoid shape, then that’s what we know. Calling it a spirit or ghost is still several steps away. Assuming it’s associated with other phenomena like cold spots or odd EMF readings is premature unless someone reported that, too. Investigate the report itself. Is there something about the environment that, under the conditions of the original sighting, would produce the impression of a translucent humanoid shape? (This is the one point where turning out the lights makes sense, if that better replicates the original conditions.) If the explanation’s not that simple, has the sighting happened multiple times or to multiple witnesses? Is it always in the same place and/or time? If there are multiple reports, are they actually of the same thing, or have different witnesses reported different weird things, perhaps because the site already has a reputation for being haunted? In the latter case, investigate each distinct phenomenon as its own thing until you have reason to think otherwise. One person’s apparition and another person’s cold spot are not necessarily related, much less caused by something we can definitively call “a ghost” until we know a lot more.

Basically, the “sciences” surrounding things like ghosts and UFOs have jumped way ahead of what the actual data shows, constructing entire edifices of assumptions that most researchers seem to start from even though they have yet to establish the basics. If investigations were conducted more like the above (principles I learned from skeptical paranormal researcher Ben Radford, who does conduct his investigations that way and has actually been able to solve some cases), I would have more respect for the work.

I agree, I think the problem is, we are trying to define ghosts, UFOs, etc with our understanding of the world and make them somehow fit into it.

If you look back at historical sightings, its very clear, people were seeing the same basic things people are today, whether its UFOs, ghosts, the sighting descriptions are exactly the same as reports from the centuries ago, so whatever these things are, they have been around for a LONG time.

I assume some are angels/ demons, but we have no way of knowing what other beings God has created and what their purpose is, we only see and understand a very small piece of a much larger puzzle.

I have a feeling, even if God himself came down and explained to us, in terms we could relate to, what ghosts, UFO, etc truly…I doubt it would make any sense to us, we could not comprehend what they are or maybe even their purpose.

Absolutely they exist.

The demonic have powerful recourse in this regard. The most troubling issue is younger people using the occult for “fun” without realizing what they’re opening themselves and this world up to.

I used to get what I called “seeings” all the time… Often folk in great distress and need and I learned to pray for them.

Or an "action replay"of things that had happened in a house that I did not and could not know about… learned later… Knowing there were dead babies buried, and then they found them.

I am wary re TV shows etc. Never believe anything but that it happens personally to me. Show biz!

But these things carry a fearful responsibility also. And folk get far too “fascinated” without having the discernment to interpret or define.
