Gingrich: John Bolton will be my secretary of state

Hermain Cain as either Vice-President or Secretary of the Treasury also wouldn’t be a bad choice.

ME? I’d rather shave my head with a cheese grater while chewing on aluminum foil than vote for him. Based on what I have read about Roy5’s posts, that is who I believe HE supports.

Hm! Whom do I want for president? In all honesty, none of the candidates have particular appeal. Huntsman may be the best, but his chances are almost nil. Besides, he’s a Mormon, and while Mormons are fine people I apparently have enough hesitation to not want to give Mormonism the prestige that may come from having one of their number in the White House. Wow - what they are expected to believe?

I was rather impressed by Perry when he first announced, but he probably would be devastated in debates with Obama. I have some sympathy for Ron Paul on the war issue - no more foreign wars that kill so many and helped get us into this huge debt. He certainly would be preferable to Bolton as Secretary of State. But when it comes to Paul on domestic issues, his libertarian position sounds too much like anarchism to me. 

 Romney is a reasonable man, with much experience, who looks and behaves like a president, but he has been a rather consistent flip-flopper - and a Mormon, even a Mormon bishop at one point. Again, I hesitate to give Mormonism the prestige that a man in the White House might bring them. 

  That leaves - let's see - Santorum, Bachmann - both too triigger-happy.And, of course, Gingrich, someone I would never vote for. That never could be spelled NEVER. I want to be able to respect our president. 

   Mitch Daniels, Chris Christie, Pawlenty, Ryan might have been good. but we didn't get a real opportunity to check them out. Donald Trump - a clown with a huge ego. 

   Bad situation. Maybe time for a third party. It's a shame when we can't get enthusiastic about anyone running.

I love it. You don’t like any of the individuals actually running, so you think it may be time for a nebulous, unnamed “third party.” Sure…there is nothing not to like about a non-existant, fictitious individual. 😛

That said “generic Republican” does the best against Obama in head-to-heads, so I am thinking of voting for “generic Republican” in the primaries. 😃

Gingrich comes across much better when you look at All of the details.

What tired old spin this is:

Eighty-three of 84 ethics complaints were dismissed. On the final one, Gingrich made the political equivalent of a plea deal, agreeing to a fine over the college course he was teaching while he was speaker of the House. Big deal.

Myers and every other network reporter and outlet ignored the part where the Internal Revenue Service was brought in to investigate Gingrich and in 1999, cleared him unequivocally of everything.

Apparently, these reporters will cling to their “Gingrich shut the government down” propaganda as long as they live. That’s not true. Technically, it was Clinton who shut it down.

Let’s stop believing the media myths about Gingrich and look at ALL the details.

If as you say there’s a problem with it, Ishii, I had nothing to do with writing the document. It came from a conference of bishops, of Apostolic successors. Actually it was even the newly re-written introduction from this yr. I only quoted clear words from it. I would have thought they’d have corrected the problem you perceive when they did the rewrite if it were a problem. But apparently there are disagreements about it as I know some posters like to quote individual members of the hierarchy on the topic in comparison to the bishops’ conference on the whole. If there’s ambiguity, you’ll have to take it up with the USCCB I suppose if you disagree with their wording. Not with me.
 
I’m currently in RCIA classes. I’m a pro-life bleeding-heart-liberal. I feel strongly compelled to become Catholic–as though I’m Catholic already, and just never realized it. Should I be turned off by the fact that so many American Catholics are Republicans first, Catholics second? Or should I just see that as exemplifying what a big tent Catholicism really is?

Except that I’m neither democrat nor catholic. I may become Catholic, but I’ll never be a democrat!

This is a serious question though. I’d rather have a serious response, or none at all. This is one of the major hurdles I’m facing.

I personally have been turned off. But then perhaps sometimes I look at the politics exemplified on this forum as more and more exemplifying Catholicism today among many parishoners and up and coming clergy. But if Catholicism is still the big tent, then I suppose you can see it that way. I know when I get discouraged by the politics on this forum, there will sometimes be a poster come along to give me hope. In any case all the best as you journey and explore the faith. And peace be with you during this season and always.
