I did not say that Bolton is a genius of any kind. I do agree that he is very knowledgeable on foreign affairs. And any time someone throws out the term “neo-con” it negates the validity of the rest of their argument as far as I am concerned. Bolton is no groveler and says what he thinks. We could use more of that in government.

No, we most certainly don’t, not in anything dealing with diplomacy. That is pretty much the exact opposite of diplomacy. It may make fun television on the commentator shows, but is totally inappropriate for anyone with responsible for relations with other countries.
Nor do I favor the use of the term “neo-con.” As others here have noted the term is often misused to apply to anything liberals dislike. However, Bolton is a neoconservative, which is a term describing a foreign policy outlook. Neoconservatives dominated the first administration of President George W. Bush. Thankfully, their influence was greatly diminished in the second administration.

I’m getting the impression that Newt just wants to win the next episode of Survivor. He’ll do or say anything to stay in the spotlight. Throwing out red meat is a favorite ploy. He must not think too much of the office of the president of the United States. I’m tired of reality show politicians. Can anyone explain to me why the contestants have to be cleared through Donald Trump?
Trump is trying to set himself up as kingmaker. He knows he will never get the job himself, so he wants to be the guy who sets up the guy who gets it. Then he can call in favors.
I agree. Horrible idea. It’s things like this that basically send the message to the America people (the ones voting) that, “We really aren’t that serious about defeating Obama in November…!” That’s the message the American people are hearing. I’m not sure if I’m the only one who realizes this.
You’re right, Bob, in the sense that they also called Reagan a warmonger. However, Bolton does have a track record of unwise policies. And it doesn’t seem to me that Obama is a groveler in terms of foreign policy; maybe too much the opposite.
There are several possibilities why many of the American people are willing to support Gingrich regardless of the points you raise about his past. One is they have a short memory or are simply unaware of his history. Another is they are so disillusioned with politicians in general that they don’t expect much better. They might also be willing to forgive Newt, realizing they are not electing a saint; and it may even be desirable to some that he shows such arrogance, a quality they believe is sorely needed for a Presidential leader. Even though many Americans are fed up with big government, Gingrich comes off as a kind of anti-government political insider, and the people think we may need someone with more experience and imagination than Obama to fix the economy. Finally, some would vote for virtually ANYONE except the current President. I believe Gingrich would give Obama a good run for the money if he becomes the GOP candidate.
Even with an imperfect Obama, in such an Obama-Gingrich contest with Bolton in the wings as the potential Secretary of State, I personally would not be able to sit out (which I never do anyway) nor do I believe right now I would I be able to vote 3rd party (which I have done in a gubernatorial race). Residing in one of the swing states for electoral votes, doing either of those for me would be helping Gingrich.

As I heard WH advisor David Plouffe say yesterday on one of the cable shows, any Republican begins with at least 47 or 48% in a nation so divided in its politics.

I think it got worse after Vice President Gore won the people’s vote nationwide and the SCOTUS awarded “W” the Electoral and the subsequent Bush yrs caused further division. Then the election of President Barack Obama caused further division coming from the extreme right. But first of all I don’t believe though Christ calls us to leave everyone alone. And another problem with your solution of leaving everyone alone, is you would have to do so across all areas. There are issues as well in which conservatives like Gingrich and I imagine Bolton, favor government intruding upon others beliefs. That’s all I’m going to say about it though so we don’t veer too far from the discussion.
