Praise God! :extrahappy:

Just a note though, this really belongs in the news section. 😉

It mentions that he has been Married three times! How could the Church allow him to become Catholic? I’m certain that he has to deal with the prior Marriages just like every other person seeking to become Catholic.
Maybe he previous marriages has been dealt with already. He may very well have had his previous marriages nullified.

That being said baptism and confession are two wonderful sacraments that wash away every sin and give us a clean slate. Our past is wiped out by God and we start a new life in Him. Regardless of what Gingrich has done in the past he will be a new creation in Christ when he enters the Church.

His wife is a devote Catholic. They had their marriage convalidated in 2003. Despite this, it still appears to be rumor…we’ll see come 2009.

My post was a rhetorical question. I noticed many comments saying that his past is forgiven, referencing St. Paul. Reconciliation and even Baptism do not act as alternate annulment processes. He cannot enter the Catholic Church until the past Marriages have been dealt with through a Church Tribunal process. Which according to the above post has been done.

Yes, the link in the first post is simply a one line allegation. It offers no evidence.

A search of Google News doesn’t turn up anything more convincing.

Welcome to our Faith Community, Newt! I hope to see you on “The Journey Home” soon!!

I saw a comment about Bush in there as well, and did my own research, and it seems entirely possible that Bush may be converting as well!

Ha! I’d love to see Newt on with Marcus Grodi! It would be priceless!

Don’t forget Tony Blair who was accepted in to the faith last year.

That’s wonderful! I really respect Newt Gingrich and this just makes me respect him even more!

Well, I did see him at Mass (Corpus Christi) at the Basicilia of the Immaculate Conception in D.C. in May. And it wasn’t just because he was with his wife either because he was alone.

I believe that Mr. Gingrich will not be baptized. He is a Southern Baptist. He is mostly likely baptized. Also, his second marriage was the one that required annulment, because it was in a Lutheran ceremony when neither of the parties was Lutheran. There is a disparity here that impairs a valid marriage. One person must be a member of the faith for the marriage to be a sacrament. This was a no brainer. It was not a valid marriage.

Good luck to Mr. Gingrich in his future life as a Catholic.

As to Mr. Bush, I have always had some inclination that he may follow his brother’s footsteps and join the the Catholic Church. He seems to be very fond of Catholics and was a good friend of John Paul II, even when they disagreed on Iraq. He certainly has been the most outgoing President toward the Papacy since diplomatic relations were established with the Vatican.

Let’s see what time brings.

I’m not holding my breadth for Mr. Obama’s conversion to Catholicism. He’s very entrenched in too many issues that are in conflict with Catholicism. But we should never doubt the power of Grace.

Mr Blair however remains resolutely pro abortion as does his ostensibly Catholic wife.I don’t know how much good becoming a Catholic will do him.

The Holy See was asked about this and they responded that it was none of our business. That Mr. Blair has some growing to do in his new found faith. When the Vatican stops you in mid sentence, it’s time to back-off.

I thought Newt’s first wife died of cancer after their divorce. If he attempted marriage before she died then the second “marriage” was invalid and he would presumably be free to marry the “third” actually second wife.

Ok, I’m lost here with which wife is which. 🤷
