I But I digress a bit…and I pose a question; “What about the family that is active in their parish and ONLY has girls? Are they and their offspring to be denied the opportunity to serve mass, solely because genetics did NOT provide a male child?”

While I can completely understand and appreciate the canon and beyond, I still believe that God is much more accepting than his followers…and I thank HIM for that!!

PEACE
The Church will deny that same family of having priests.

  1. There are, of course, various roles that women can perform in the liturgical assembly: these include reading the Word of God and proclaiming the intentions of the Prayer of the Faithful. Women are not, however, permitted to act as altar servers.[27]

Look, I apologize, that wasn’t the best choice of words…i certainly did not mean that women themselves are cancers and I appreciate their eagerness to want to contribute…but my words have been twisted, because the intention of that line was to mean the “actual abuse” is the cancer…women just happen to object of that particular abuse. so I am sorry…I can see how you can easily take my words out of context.
What appreciation for people like me… I served 14 years and taught altar servers.
I’ve been falled a lot of things, but cancer is a new one.

Not women themselves but the abuse is the cancer…just like orans, removing the communion rails, etc…I am sorry my words were taken out of context, because I certainly did not mean that women are the cancer, but the abuses of them serving on the Altar…and to me, it is not Christ like to allow a woman to do something she is not supposed to do under the guise of equality and charity…Christ did not ordain women and tradition, popes, and saints have spoken out against them assisting during Mass at the altar…following that is Christ like, ignoring it is protestantism and moral relativism. Jesus loved His mother dearly, but He didn’t ordain Her, and She didn’t con-celebrate or assist at a Mass either.
Now that is just plain offensive.

I do hope that at least part of your discernment will involve looking at how Jesus treated women. I’m fairly sure he never described them as a malignant growth or tumour no matter what they were doing or where they were doing it.

Don’t slander me by telling me what I meant when you don’t have the slightest clue
No one has twisted your words or taken them out of context - they are your words. Please don’t add insult to injury by suggesting otherwise.

michaeldaniels, the non-traditional people here have taken the words of most of the traditionals out of context several times. I’ve had a few people do it to me. When they try to argue about what you did or did not say, it’s often best to ignore them and they stop. Otherwise you’re arguing about who said what.

I did not say anything about what you meant to say. I said that no one twisted your words or took them out of context, as you allege. And if I don’t have the slightest clue what you meant to say - and given your poor syntax - how is that somehow my fault?

OK Kids…lets put the guns and knives away and act like Christian Catholics are supposed to act, with Christian charity. We are giving a very poor impression of Catholicism ( it’s bad enough as it is ). Also let’s get back on subject.

First, what religion is OHCAC? Also, this idea that the Magisterium is not doing a very good job as of late seems to smack of the SSPX…I’m guessing that if the Magisterium has permitted it, there must be a reason, and I’ll trust the Holy Ghost to lead where it wills on this matter.

That being said, I don’t have any strong feelings on this matter, but I’ve seen both good as well as sloppy serving by both male and female servers. And for the record, the church where I am at now has neither female readers or servers. I’m thinking that my current parish has adequate numbers of servers and readers now, since I have not seen an announcement in the bullentin for them in about a year. I may volunteer for another Mass (I sing in the church adult choir) if they really are in need as evidenced by the bullentin.

Take care.

is the Bishop approves of girl altar servers, who are we to say otherwise? 🤷

No kidding!

If any of us prefer only male altar servers then express it as a personal preference. Nothing wrong with that.

My own personal opinion is that serving Mass is such a powerful way to foster priestly/diaconate vocations that ALL the slots should be OVERFILLED by males who might just possibly have such a vocation.

But to continually hammer-away with the “the use of female servers was born out of disobedience therefore it must be bad” and this talk about “cancer” is not only terribly ignorant, it also calls to question the competence of the Teaching Magisterium of the Church…

agreed

i think the first preference should be male but not limited to it. if no males are interested, what are we to do?

in my present parish we have all-male altar servers because our priest wants it that way. but i know in the archdiocese female altar servers are allowed and my former parish had mostly female altar servers. i never had a problem with it. they are lay servers not subject to Holy Orders, so why can’t it be open to women?

It was born out of disobedience, like it or not. Calling into question the practice of female altar servers is not an attack on the Teaching Authority of the Church, but a question of the prudence of the introduction of the novelty (in spite of centuries of tradition, if not Tradition, condemning the practice).

Honestly this debate should have happened behind closed doors fifteen years ago, before the implementation happened, and the policy is fair play for re-examination on every level: for the Latin Church, the local bishop, the pastor, the priest, and the individual (if for nothing else, for the sake of ecumenism I say we reverse it 😉 ).

Altar servers are substitutes for the instituted ministry of acolyte, scandalously neglected by the bishops since Ministeria Qauedam. Acolytes, because they are participating in the ministry of the priest, are male (as are Lectors).

Prior to the new code of canon law it was recognized that having women assist at the altar was inconsistent with an all male priesthood (as the strongly worded encyclicals we have seen quoted point out).

If no males are interested, it is entirely permissible and appropriate to do without (in the OF), or have a female give responses from the rail (in the EF).

I like the idea of allowing both females and males.

I also like the idea of the laity (particularly males) getting off the couch and PRAYING + WORKING to build a MASSIVE corps of all male altar servers. Yeah, I know, you pastor won’t allow that. Changing his mind is part of that PRAYER + WORK.

I don’t care where it is, with enough males involved as servers it would get to the point where females wouldn’t dare sign-up. But it would take PRAYER, WORK, SACRIFICE and RESOLVE along with FAITH. Many simply do not have what it takes to hang in there and win the war…

Imagine if in one of these problem parishes a group of a dozen men invited the pastor out to lunch and laid-out a proposal for a new altar server group. You REALLY think he would say “no?” Then keep WORKING and PRAYING!

So? Follow the current code.

Not if properly trained females are ready to serve.
