Girl Scout Employee Quits, Not Allowed to Wear Pro-Life Shirt

Phoenix, AZ – The Girl Scouts, which have already come under fire for numerous links to the Planned Parenthood abortion business and having pro-abortion speakers at their recent national conference, are under fire again.

If she can wear a pro life t shirt then the employer must let other employees wear pro choice shirts. That’s just the legal aspect of employment law.

Where did a doctor come into it? I was talking about someones dry cleaner. Someone implied they didn’t care about their dry cleaners opinions as long as they did their job. I was questioning that–assuming that they do care about their dry cleaners opinions on certain issues. It would appear that I was correct. The point was the opinions of those we purchase our services from are not totally irrelevant to our decision making process–nor do I think they should be. The reason why so many people keep their opinions hidden is because they don’t want to offend and chase off customers who don’t share the same view point. And that’s another discussion.

Peace,
Mark
Um…ok.

But a band t-shirt isn’t going to be a contraversial as wearing a t-shirt about abortion. Those are deliberately warn to provoke a reaction or make a point, rather than just appreciating the image.
Oh but that university shirt might be even more controversial depending on where you live. 🙂 I think I disagree with, well lets say the way I read “deliberately warn to provoke a reaction or make a point”-- I read this to imply that these people are out looking to start arguments with people. I reject that. Those I know that have pro-life shirts wear them as a statement of their belief. They would prefer not to be accosted but would welcome the opportunity to be questioned about their belief in a polite and respectful manner. I think there is a difference.

Peace,
Mark

The employee was hired by them. If they don’t like the rules, then don’t work for them.
Were they up front about this rule, or did they just make it up on the spot? Besides, you are changing the argument, which is if they like diversity, they should live up to their professed beliefs and not have fired her, even if she came in the nude. :yup:
And where is your evidence that I’m not interested in “diversity”? …
Don’t you remember what you post? #48:
Nope I’m not at all interested in diversity. …
:rotfl: LMAO!

👍 Bitter is WRONG. This was fun and arrogant speaks volumes.

So you think “diversity” means “do what you want”? Are you confusing freedom with diversity again?

That is called sarcasm. I hear you struggle with that over the pond, that’s ok. Along with the concept of irony.

That shouldn’t present a problem for the Girl Scouts since they “…have already come under fire for numerous links to the Planned Parenthood abortion business and having pro-abortion speakers at their recent national conference.”

Ah, the Brits and the Yanks: two peoples separated by a common language.

I don’t know if “all out preaching” is a great idea if yopu want to hold on to a job. For example, telling a co-worker that they are going to Hell for being homosexual or something would not be a good idea. Many of my female coworkers were living common law with their boyfriends, and I also had a gay coworker. If they asked how I felt about homosexuality or abortion, I would give them a straight answer.l I didn’t try to promote hatred towards a group that believes different things that don’t agree with Christianity. I also didn’t tell them how to live their lives.
And in some people’s opinion, wearing a cross or crucifix is not considered to be a small thing. At one job I was told if I wanted to wear Christian jewellry, I had to wear them under my clothes. It was made out to be a huge deal there. Maybe it didn’t make the news, but I was told I could be dismissed if I didn’t follow the rules

So then who is preaching to you about what is right or wrong. It’s ironic that’s all I have to say.

People should be kind and aware of their surroundings. If you work in a liberal place, don’t wear a conservitave tee shirt.

My boyfriend gave me a Boston ball cap, and my good friend is a Boston fan and has a 2004 championship cap. When we’re tooling around New England in my friend’s convertiable it’s perfectly fine to wear our boston caps.

When we visit my friend who’s a nun in the bronx we don’t bring our baseball caps. Obvously wearing a Boston cap in NYC would be a BAD idea.

Same here, I hired a young man from NY. The dress code allowed caps and he would wear one, but complied when I asked him not to wear his Yankees cap. It dosn’t bothor me, but some customers felt it made him unaprochable. And, bingo! I think I’ve hit it. It’s about who you’re hired to serve and how your superior decides that’s best laid out. If an employer in NYC didn’t want Boston Caps, then I’d respect that.

Then the Girl Scouts organization should remove “diversity” from their cherished values.

If you let them make you remove your cross from the neck, you will let them do it. If you let them keep you silent from speaking out, you will let them do it. If you let them remove you from your workplace, you will let them do it. If they decide alltogether to wipe you out from society, what would you do then.

Despite the diversity, the British society is still one of the most polarised societies around. You still have a system of hierarchy, almost a type of caste system as found in India. You have your upper classes, middle class and your working class, and for the most part, they don’t mix. You can even tell who’s who, just by listening to the accent.

If you’re referring to Tebeau that’s a straw man. Football is in the entertainment industry. His ability to entertain and play is quite tied to the antics on the field. Now, I think that the 316 pass was pretty cool, but again, it’s tied to the showmanship. If he didn’t perform no one would care.

Girlscouts, sales, and 90% of industries today are SERVICE industries. You are not hired to entertain, or make a statement, but do a cookie cutter job and be plesant.

Actually, no. It’s called functioning and having a job. My college roomate was a fundie who believed everyone but Baptists, including Jews, Catholics and other Christians were going to Hell. She was not allowed to pass out chick tracks at work. It’s just the way it was. Work is WORK it’s not buddy bible sharing time.

First and foremost, as an employee of the Girl Scouts organization, she is expected to be diverse. See “Who we are” here girlscouts.org/who_we_are/diversity. How can you get any more diverse from the “cookie-cutter” message of PP than she was? She should have been given a promotion instead of being “excluded”. :yup:

A job is a job.
Tim does a sign of the cross. It doesn’t affect his work. It’s the people that want to impose their right to stop him from doing it. It’s all about submission

Are you sure that in the US you don’t have a class system?

Think about it. Begin with your history of “political families/legacies”.

Also, in India what caste you belong to can seriously stop your life and restrict who you can marry. In Britain, we are not even slightly close to that. Just because you refuse to use the word “class” in the US doesn’t mean you don’t have a similar system, just not acknowledged.

Saying that, my mother was unable to go to university despite having the grades because she was told she wasn’t the right sort of person (grew up on a council estate) that they wanted there. Times however have swiftly changed and it is no longer as much of an issue as it was even 30 years ago.

This is your best post so far. You are right – we do have a class system. I don’t know how much you’ve been following American politics, but there is class warfare going on, fueled by Democratic Party political opportunists who have divided us into various political/social/economic groups. It use to be that a person’s morality was judged by his actions; now it is judged by what political causes he supports. We have many cases similar to your mother’s. There have been many lawsuits filed by university applicants who were passed over so the school can meet its quota of racial minorities even though they had lower grades and test scores. You might even call this activity a class system in reverse.
