Hi.

I know Girl Scouts have been linked to Planned Parenthood and various radical feminist groups, and I am aware that at one time (in the mid-70’s) the Girl Scouts were shunned by Catholic Schools altogether because of their anti-Catholic feminist views (at least in my Archdiocese). I want to know how they crept back into our Catholic schools. Can anyone shed some light?? My parish’s Catholic school has loads of girls currently involved in Girl Scouts and they even hold their meetings in our school cafeteria. They also sell their cookies outside of church when Mass is letting out. I want to bring the matter to our Pastor’s attention, but I cannot seem to find any materials that would back me up. Every time I find something on line, it’s from several years ago (like the Waco cookie boycott of 2004). I do know that our chapter is not involved with Planned Parenthood or feminist groups, but they are still donning the Girl Scout logo and promoting the group as a whole, which really bothers me. I feel like we’ve made a compromise, to say the least. Can anyone direct me to a web site or article stating that Catholic Schools should not promote Girl Scouts even if their specific Chapter does not support Planned Parenthood, and why? I’d appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

This is dated, but the National Review said that 26% of Girl Scout councils had ties with Planned Parenthood. The source of that number is not cited, so I cannot attest to its accuracy.

A google search with the words, girl scout abortion, will hit on quite a number of articles. Most seem to be several years old. I have no way of knowing if they reflect the current thinking of the leadership of the organization or, for that matter, if they were correct at the time of publication.

Here are a couple of other links:

Let’s pray these are wrong. Again, I have to point out that they are old, about the vintage of the article you mentioned in your post.

Georgia, thank you so much for your response. Yes, that’s the problem I was having - all articles were old. I will work with what I have. Thank you.

why not call your own council and ask about their ties to PP or challenge the leadership of your parish troop, and their service unit, to give you that information.
