Just a reminder that the Girls Scouts are starting to sell their cookies and they give support to Planned Parenthood. They might be yummy but its at the expense of a dead baby.

No, this is not true. The Girls Scouts do not support Planned Parenthood. The national organization takes no money from Planned Parenthood and sponsors nothing with PP; occasionally a local council gets a donation from Planned Parenthood, but there are no “pro-choice” rallies for the Girl Scouts.

There’s just a bunch of gullible people running around repeating calumnies that they’ve heard about the Girl Scouts, for no discernible reason other than a bizarre hatred of girls learning to work together in a volunteer service organization.

The articles are all either gross misrepresentations or self-serving ads for other organizations (with an occasional true story of some local troop leader screwing up and getting in trouble for it).

Go ahead, eat the cookies! You aren’t killing a baby by doing it.

Some of the arguments in those cited articles are pretty disturbing…I don’t know enough to be fair about it, but I will say that the cookies are awesome. I also think that it could very well be a situation where bad influences get through the cracks…such a large organization can’t keep track of everyone.

The grocery store sells grasshopper cookies that are almost as good and they are sold year round! No reason to panic 😃

On the other hand, they GSUSA picked the Mayor of Houston as the keynote speaker for the past year’s National Convention.

This is a person who has participated in ‘Ribbon Cutting’ ceremonies at Planned Parenthood clinics, and whose live in lesbian ‘partner’ is on the local Planned Parenthood board as their Treasurer.

Mayor Annies Parker, spoke at the opening of a new Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in June 2010, saying, “It’s not about the building; it’s about people’s lives; it is not about women, it is about families; and it’s not about what we do here today, it’s about our future.”

Mayor Parker has recieved the Planned Parenthood endorsement in all her election bids.

So that is the type of person that the Girl Scouts propose as a model of modern womanhood.

And just about every year, the National Convention speakers are almost exclusively publically know abortion advocates.

So, No thanks ladies!, no cookies for me.

Here is the Administrator of the Archdiocese of Denver, Bishop Conley
Parents would be wise to spend some serious time browsing the WAGGGS (www.wagggsworld.org) and GSUSA websites, following the links they find there, and examining for themselves how these organizations deal with sexuality, “choice” and reproductive issues. It may be a sobering experience.
As one youth minister recently wrote:
“It’s hard to imagine that a girl who remains involved with Girl Scouts into young adulthood won’t eventually learn of the connections her organization has with ‘pro-choice’, pro-contraception and ‘reproductive freedom’ groups.
Having been influenced by GSUSA, she’ll be more receptive to this agenda. And if she was introduced to GSUSA through her parents and her local parish, then that will inevitably create contradictions between her Catholic faith and her Scouting experience.”

In a way you’re right. But you’re totally wrong.

Girl Scouts of America doesn’t give money to Planned Parenthood, but they do give it to Girl Scouts International. Girl Scouts International then gives it to Planned Parenthood.

Here is an excerpt of an email between some friends and myself writing about a talk we had with a GS regional coordinator.

She also proceeded to explain to me that “GS was in no way a RELIGIOUS organization. they were secular in nature in order to be open to ALL girls. And was sorry if I had been mis-led in any way about that” When asked about the GS pledge talking about God she used our country as an example of how we have God on our money and pledge but “that it really doesn’t mean anything either” -

I, and my friends (and our children) have left girl scouts.

I didn’t become pro-choice because of Girl Guides of Canada. I did, however, learn how to cook hot dogs using a ketchup tin and a lit candle.

Over here, cookie money is used to, well, fund their programs…

You pay dues to the national Headquarters of Canadian Girl Scouts - yes?

In light of their clear denial of this and similar allegations, I’m going to have ask you to prove it.

And please don’t just say “I read it on the web somewhere.” There are plenty of people out there slandering the Girl Scouts; surely someone, somewhere has actually presented the proof, yes?

Did you read my second post? I spoke with the regional coordinator. She explained it all quite nicely. A portion of every due paid to Girl Scouts goes to a second corporation. The second corporation does give money to planned parenthood.

You’re a skeptic and that’s good. I was very skeptical too. I didn’t want to find out that my daughters organization was all these bad things. But don’t take my word, or the internets word, for it. Call your regional coordinator and have a talk.

Please actually research those links. They’re all false, misleading, or downright weirdly irrelevant.
How so,

Are you stating that Kathy Cloninger wasn’t on the Today show in March 2004 and that she stated that GSUSA partners with many organizations, including Planned Parenthood.

Or that Bishop Conley from Denver DIDN’T publish the letter that I had linked to above

Or that Mayor Parker was NOT chosen by GSUSA to give the keynote speech at the last National Convention, or that she has NOT recieved the endorcement of Planned Parenthood.

Which one do you think is in error, or not applicable?

Blah! Those cookies taste like cardboard to me. Then again, I guess I am a bit of a snob regarding sweets since I am a cake/cookie designer. 😛

At any rate, my 6 yo just joined GS, I wish I would have know about their ties beforehand. I would take her out but she really, really enjoys it, ugh.

I don’t care for the cookies either. We literally recieved cases of the things when I was in Iraq this last time. And they wonder why the military is having a weight crisis! 😛

I did take my daughter out of GS and we joined Girls in Action. It’s a southern baptist organization, I imagine the catholic church must have something like it.

6 year olds really enjoy many things, but, if the are not helping your child get to heaven - better not spend your time and money there.

GodFollower, I recently watched Women of Grace, on our Catholic network, EWTN. For 5 days, each day, WOG discussed w/ some women and their daughters about this and how they are trying to raise awareness and not to attack. I encourage you to visit www.SpeakNow GirlScouts.com. They have done the research for us. I do trust into the host of Women of Grace and the information she delivers to us through other people. The money given to PP by GSUSA is one thing, but there is more behind the scenes, I as a mother was not aware of either. GSUSA have a journey series (a group of books) they use to teach girls as young as 10 years old, about promiscuity, abortion, homosexuality, morning after pill, etc. In order for the girl to receive a bronze, silver, or gold award, this must be completed. The good news in that regard is that the troop leaders can decide what their troop will be focused on. Example: science or nature or math, which wouldn’t include body or self-esteem. It is important that you know what your girl(s) is learning. BE INVOLVED! ASK QUESTIONS!
