I am curious, do you consider any criticism of the Catholic Church and its teachings as blasphemy?
Not at all. Blasphemy is the mocking and/or desecrating of things related to faith and God for no reason, and the refusal to learn about God.

I criticize the Church all the time. Most of my criticism is for its stance on gay marriage (in terms of civil law) and barrier birth control methods. Criticism of its teachings are what leads one ultimately to accepting its teachings, should they really desire to have knowledge about what the Church teaches in terms of doctrine.

Well, yes.

And according to Scripture women who are raped in town should be executed, because if they didn’t really want it they would have made enough racket to attract help.

Children can also be killed for swearing at their parents.

The Old Testament is not an ideal place to look for good morals, not by Western standards anyway. If you want to see what Old Testament morality looked like in practice, study Islamic areas where Sharia Law holds sway.
lol, do you realize that rape and murder is the highest in western secular countries? US has the highest murder rate… Saudi Arabia is actually on the botton of violence against women. Nice way of putting your foot in your mouth.

Actually, it does show bad on him, but it’s over now, and we’ve all moved on.

Hating the world because of one persons actions is foolish.
actually it shows good on him because it shows that evil bothers him.

*You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. - James 4:4

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. - 1 John 2:15*

maybe you don’t know much of the bible. Those who are friends of the world are at enmity with god…

then you already have a wrong attitude. Gay marriage and birth control confuse and disrupt the procreative aspect God gave to humans. It also disrespects ones partner as a sex object and uses them for sexual reasons only. So criticize all you want, but its just a fallible opinion that your using against a divine organization. Wrong attitude to go with if your in RCIA. If you don’t believe the Churches stance on morality then your wasting your time

criticism is not what leads to accepting. It is actually studying WHY the Church says what it says, understanding God’s authority, understanding the laws of morality and the dignity of the human being made in God’s image, natural law, and the study of moral apologetics.

No, I am not kidding. I can’t even leave CAF without finding something sacreligious. This is ridiculous. Nothing is funny to the world unless it involves sex or blasphemy, or both. I know God forgives all sins, but I am not God.
While Jesus was hanging on the Cross he looked down at those who had him crucidied and prayed, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

If Jesus could forgive them, so too can he forgive those you’re so upset over.

I was on the website FailBlog a few minutes ago, and it just HAD to have a blasphemous billboard of Jesus and Mary in bed together, with a caption that said “Joseph wasn’t enough”

That’s it. This world is dead to me. For all I care, it can go to hell, because obviously that’s what it wants. How can God forgive such an atrocity? Implying that Jesus and Mary had an incestual relationship? May God forgive whoever did that, BECAUSE I WON’T!

JackVk, would you like to know the secret of forgiveness? It is this: hate sin.

It is right and proper to be angry at all of the sin and evil we see in this world. You are actually in the right track. Hate the sin you saw for all it is worth! Heck, I would even go one step further and treat all sin, no matter how minor, as unforgiveable.

But here is the caveat: you must know why you must hate sin, why you must treat all sin as unforgiveable. And this is the reason: sin does nothing but hurt those you love. Sin hurts God. Sin hurts you. Sin hurts other people. But, most importantly, sin hurts the sinner the most, because it can cost the sinner the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell.

We must consider one other thing: anything created by anyone is not an integral part anymore of the creator. A painter who makes his masterpiece is not part of his painting. And so is a sculptor not part of his sculpture. A business deal is not part of any of the dealers. And so it is with a sinner and his/her sin: the sin is foreign to the sinner; the sin is not an integral part of the sinner. Oh sure, the sin can kill the sinner; in fact, that is why sin can kill, because it is foreign to the sinner, just like a bullet in the heart is foreign to one’s body and thus kills the person.

Therefore, hate sin unto the highest heaven precisely because it is a foreign body in the sinner’s soul, and thus it kills the sinner, your brother/sister in Christ, whom God commanded you to love as much as yourself, and even as much as God loves each and every one of us. Under no circumstances make any compromise with sin, the mass murderer. And as for the sinner, forgive him/her, even “seventy times seven times”, for the sinner is NOT sin. In fact, it is only God who can forgive sin, not us; but we can always forgive the sinner who sinned against us. Thus we must always pray in intercession for sinners that God may forgive their sins. Always remember that the sinner, in a sense, does not know what he/she does, for no one can see the effect of sin on one’s soul. And lastly, try your best to admonish him/her to turn from his/her ways before it is too late.

This is the secret of forgiveness.

God bless.

I think G.K. Chesterton can say it better than me:

Charity is a paradox, like modesty and courage. Stated baldly, charity certainly means one of two things – pardoning unpardonable acts, or loving unlovable people. But if we ask ourselves (as we did in the case of pride) what a sensible pagan would feel about such a subject, we shall probably be beginning at the bottom of it. A sensible pagan would say that there were some people one could forgive, and some one couldn’t: a slave who stole wine could be laughed at; a slave who betrayed his benefactor could be killed, and cursed even after he was killed. In so far as the act was pardonable, the man was pardonable. That again is rational, and even refreshing; but it is a dilution. It leaves no place for a pure horror of injustice, such as that which is a great beauty in the innocent. And it leaves no place for a mere tenderness for men as men, such as is the whole fascination of the charitable. Christianity came in here as before. It came in startlingly with a sword, and clove one thing from another. It divided the crime from the criminal. The criminal we must forgive unto seventy times seven. The crime we must not forgive at all. It was not enough that slaves who stole wine inspired partly anger and partly kindness. We must be much more angry with theft than before, and yet much kinder to thieves than before. There was room for wrath and love to run wild.

I have to say it, and I do not mean to swear but, I do not hate this world at all nor the pople in it. I hate the damned Freemasons and their stooges and all who work for that idiotic toerag of satan. But JackVK, do you really want to be like this guy?

Name: Fred Phelps.
Known for; the deranged pastor of Westboro Baptist Church who hates everyone who is not in his sect.
Most Likely to say: The world is doomed!; God hates fags, the world, everybody.; There is no hope for America; thank God for 9/11.
Don’t mention: Everybody and everything else.

This extremely horrible and unloveable man closes the door of heaven (although he can’t open it either, becuase he has no power from God and Mary) to all and everything. Sure, homosexuality and the sins of the world are, well, bad to inifnity but we, children of Mary should give the world a chance. No wait, not only a chance, we have to work hard to convert them from their evil ways.

JackVk, I understand your anger. I get really angry thinking about the nauseating Presidents of the United STates of the last 100 years; I get angry about 9/11, about Muslims and their nonsense Jihad, about all this nonsensical war which has never ended, the New World Order, rape especially that of minors, Jerry and his damning program Springer, about the filthily degenerated agenda of the Freemasons etc…,!

But despite all this, we cannot stay here, and get angry. We do nothing, absolutely nothing at all if we stay here, lazily lamenting and moaning about the state of the world. We have to act. We have the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of Peace and the Crusher of all heresies. We are guranteed to obtain peace of the world through Her.

Oh, don’t do it that like that! and I’m not joking. Don’t go asking God directly for peace of the world. Go and ask Mary, since it is through Her that we must go to Jesus who through Him we go to God. Be assured that She will help you get rid of the evil in this world. But remember, She alone can fortify your heart with love and attract it to thyself. She alone can give you the help and grace to save this planet. She alone is destined to crush the devil, but She will only crush the devil through Her heel: and Siant Louis de Montfort says that the true Children of Mary are her heel.

You may not know what to do. We have two things: prayer and action. While we do action though, let us be careful to always keep our intentions to please Mary and to save souls.

Listen, JacKVk, I’m working on something that with Mary’s help I’m sure will help us alot to get away from this crisis. I do not work alone; we should never ever work alone. The devil said to Jean Marie Vianney (while he was attacking him) that if 3 like him [the Cure of Ars for those who are a bit dim] Satans kingdom would be destroyed. So those who wish to become childrne of Mary ought to unite and form a sort of army, a religous Order. You don’t have to be united in a religous Order to be a child of Mary (God forbid that, else, all those people who are not in religous Orders should jump in a lake!). It is essential to be in the Catholic Church to be Her child and to really wish to love Her at the very least. And at the same time, we should consecrate ourselves to Her, and make reparation to Her Immaculate heart to prove Our love for mutual love for Her.

The fact that the Yankees DID lose shows there is goodness in this world! LOL…the best team $$$ can buy. I hate it when people try to create all-star “invinsible” teams. The Yankees epitomize that. Drives me crazy…
Since my Yankees lost, that’s a reason to hate the world more.

Dear Jack,
Code:
I understand you were upset but remember when Jesus whipped the money changers in His the House dedicated to His Fahter? I have the same problem. This is the way I deal with it.

When I wake up in the morning I do the usual things to clean up. Then I say some prayers and a I meditate on the Peace of Heaven. I think about how wonderul the Peace is there and the security that only the Presence of God can give. I try to hold this Peace as I go through the day.

I usually go about 10 seconds. Then when I fail I say parts of this Prayer:
Prayer of Thanks for People

God of Love,
I thank You for the people in my life
who are easy to love.
I thank You for my family and friends
who understand my actions,
who support me in my decisions,
and whose presence can lift the burden of a thorny day.

Help me with those who are difficult to love.
When they come at me with criticism
and wild expectations,
when they ignore me
or try to bend me to their will,
let me recognize their flaws and their dangers.
But then let me remember your attitude toward them,
and lead me to see them
in the light of Your love.Amen.
Then I read at night the first part of the Book of Revelations where St. John writes of being in the Kingdom and Peace of Jesus Christ. I realize that St. John was alive and he.

“Hatred is like trying to throw a hot coal. You only hurt yourself”.I kind of paraphrased asomething that is attributed to Buddha(I hope that does’nt bother anyone).By hating you are limiting yourself and all the good potential that exists.Furthermore dont you think that hatred(espeically hating the world)is a bit of an unnneccesary ideological burden?.Dont you think that you would suffer less if you choose not to hate the world?.If try not to hate then you might find out that it does’nt take much effort.Over time if you become more positive you’ll see how it takes less effort and is so much more beneficial.

Well, I realize that Jack was upset. We are supposed to hate the sin and love the sinner.
Code:
Hate is a wound on the Soul. Here demons attach and nourish themselves on negative emotions while the Holy Spirit suffers and Our Guardian Angels weep while they pray for us.

Sadly I battle this everyday almost. We have to remember that Jesus Christ allowed Himself to be scourged, beaten, and nailed to the Cross until he bled until emptied of blood like one would slaughter a pig. He was rejected by the World and treated by trash. Yet, he asked His Father to forgive them because they knew not what they were doing.

This is a real task to learn to forgive. I confess that this is one of my weaknesses. So, I just want to remind myself and everyone that we are supposed follow Christ.

Often we are subjected to mental and physical abuses that only by the Grace of God can we even begin to forgive. It is a process.

Even St. Michael doesn't hate Satan as a creature. He hates what Satan has done maybe but he doesn't hate Satan. This takes great humility to love your enemy but the Holy Angels don't have negative emotions. In the epistle of St. Jude while arguing over the body of the prophet Moses St. Michael said to Satan: May the Lord rebuke you.

We are supposed to help build the Kingdom of Heaven by becoming Living Temples of the Holy Spirit.

We will all learn to forgive if we diligently seek the Lord. Once we are committed to follow Christ then Christ will teach us how to recieve the Graces of Reconcilliation. This takes time, patience, and true repentance but we have the Promise and Victory of Jesus Christ to rely on.

lol, do you realize that rape and murder is the highest in western secular countries? US has the highest murder rate… Saudi Arabia is actually on the botton of violence against women. Nice way of putting your foot in your mouth.
SAUDI ARABIA!

Your using Saudi Arabia as an example of a non-Western country that has low rates of violence against women?

Let me tell you something about Saudi Arabia.

Yes, rape is technically illegal in Saudi Arabia, and being raped is not considered a crime there. BUT male rapists are almost never brought to justice there.

For one thing a woman’s testimony is worth half of a man’s in court there, that means that if it comes to her word against his, the man automatically wins. More importantly, while being raped is not a crime in Saudi Arabia, adultery is a stoning offense for women (but usually not men), and the way that the law is interpreted is that if a woman accuses a man of rape, but tries and fails to prove it in court, then that is considered an admission on her part that she had sex with a man other than her husband (she was just lying about it being non-consensual) and she can be put to death for adultery.

According to Amnesty International and other human rights groups that have studied the situation, most rapes go unreported in Saudi Arabia. Because women who have been raped in that country legitimately fear that if they went to the police, it is THEY and not their rapists who would be severely punished.

So yes, the official number of REPORTED RAPES in Saudi Arabia is relatively low, but in a country where women cannot trust the criminal justice system, that means very very little.

-AngryAtheist8

P.S. I had basically lost interest in this thread, but the idea that someone was using Saudi Arabia as a example of a nation with a good record concerning violence against women made my stomach turn.

Sometimes I feel exactly the same mate. I know it might be considered ‘selfish’ to think that way but sure as heck does it make me angry at the amount of blasphemy around. I mean seriously, why does every joke have to include Catholicism in it? It’s the same with the ‘priest’ joke. ‘Have you been molested yet?’ they ask, I just reply with ‘Grow up’.

Just pray for them, and move on. (Remembering that you must forgive others to be forgiven yourself) 👍

I thought I’d add another perspective:

Near the Palatine Hill in Rome is a badly-drawn graffito showing a crucified man with a donkey’s head, and a man praying to this peculiar being. The caption underneath (scrawled in Greek) is, “Alexamenos worships God”. It’s been there since the second century. What was it the Preacher said… nothing new under the sun…

As an historical artifact, that picture is very valuable. As a form of blasphemy, it now looks… pretty silly, really. My guess is that, two thousand years from now, the poster mentioned by the OP is going to look just as quaint and simplistic. That’s not to say we shouldn’t be offended by blasphemy, but just that it’s not something that’s worthy of too much of a reaction - the Church will still be around when archaeologists are digging copies of that poster out of the archives to study it.

(Plus, the scribbler who drew the Palatine Graffito would be appalled to know that his picture has become an invaluable aid for Christian apologists: it’s now used to show Jehovah’s Witnesses that people have always known Jesus was crucified, not impaled. All things work to the good of those who fear Him.)

The depths of everything is Holy…the surface is usually profane. If the reaction to such an offensive picture is for many to get clear on their personal views then good can indeed come from it. Unfortunately, with most people asleep it sometimes takes shock (pain, sorrow, Great love, or outright assault on values) to awaken us to our true inner nature.
