I have always been a do it myself girl. My dad is a farmer; he raised us girls to not sit around waiting for someone to do things for us. We weren’t allowed to drive unless we knew how to change the oil and a tire!! I have put together everything I have bought, from mowers to shelves. I even had to show a BF in college where to put his windshield wiper fluid in his car (we broke up shortly after; seriously I couldn’t marry someone who couldn’t figure that out). I have always seen this as a positive. I always rolled my eyes at the girls who always had someone else do it for them.

UNTIL TODAY!!!

I am sitting here with a busted lip, with a piece of wet paper towel sticking out my mouth, bump on the head, chipped tooth and a broken $3,000 splint (retainer for those who have TMJ)!!! All because I decided to start the New Year by moving a few things around. YES I KNOW I should have removed the bucket from the top shelf of the cabinet I was moving!!! Never thought if it fell it would go directly on my head

DH is NOT going to be happy about this!!! I am not hurt that I need to go to the Dr right now. Although I will need to go to the dentist to get my tooth fixed  Thankfully it is not so bad that I need to get in NOW, they charged me once for an emergency visit  Learned my lesson, not having dental emergency again!!! I am sure that will pay for my dentist’s next trip to Vegas no matter what!!! I don’t even want to know what my TMJ Dr is going to say or cost :crying: I have to wear that thing 24/7!!!
Thankfully we have dental insurance, although even the decent dental insurance is not that great:(

So it took me 30 some years to figure it out, although the bucket knocked it into my head why those girls let someone else do it and for my New Years Resolution, I am becoming one of those girls!!! 👍 👍

OK off to get some aspirin before a headache sets in!!!

Happy New Years everyone!!!

I’ll be keen to know how you get on, because the problem, once you are used to “doing it yourself”, is that it is so hard to sit around waiting for someone else to do it for you…so you often end up doing it yourself - or at least I do!!

Best of luck with the resolution. Hope it all gets fixed up without too much pain and suffering (or $)

I know what you mean, I am not one for sitting 😦
Thankfully I have a VERY handy husband 😃 Hopefully all I will have to do when I need something done is remind him how much this incident cost us 😉

I did call him and tell him the bad news. He didn’t FREAK, I’m thinking he is in shock and it will hit him later. 🤷

secret to a happy marriage

rule # 1 never do household projects together

rule # 2 make a mess of the job the first, second and third time you attempt it (painting, wallpapering, planting a tree etc). and you will never be asked again, in fact, he will actively prevent you from even attempting such jobs

rule # 3 ask him 3 times, politely, to do these jobs, and when he still has not done it, wait till he is out of town on business and call a professional to have it done

I believe it was the late Peg Bracken, columnist for Family Circle, who said “Housework, if done right, can kill you…”

:sad_yes: :yup: :clapping: :bowdown2: :yup:

I like this Peg lady (should have heard of her sooner)!!!

Bracken also wrote my favorite cookbook in the whole world
The I Hate to Cook Book

A friend of my sister’s had a fridge magnet:

Boring women have immaculate homes!

I’d like one of those, I’d hate to be a boring woman 😉

BTW, JustAnotherThou, I don’t think do it yourself on teeth is a good idea, some things you just have to wait 🤷

I wish you were around 5 years ago to tell my wife this. I had to tear off our front porch and leave holes in dry wall all over the house to get my wfie to figure out that I’m not good at home handyman stuff. Now she doesn’t even bother asking, she goes right to the handyman service.

Some people aren’t meant for home handyman stuff. That’s me. I love doing mechanical stuff, but home stuff isn’t my bag.

Considering the number of times everyone does this sort of thing to themselves i.e. we really should have seen it coming but went ahead anyway, I gotta wonder why this is suddenly a gender issue. 😃 Ya don’t hafta become Princess Precious over it - just move the bucket first next time. 😛

Seriously though, commiserations on the tooth. Not much fun. 😦

(We seriously fight over tools round here, it’s a bit like those seagulls in Finding Nemo … “Mine! Mine! Mine!”)
