Global or Local?

It was not Jesus’ intent to teach about the particulars of how the flood happened.

Jesus was using the story of Noah in the flood to teach about salvation, about being ready for His return at the end of time, that’s all. Those who are prepared will be saved while those who are more concerned with day to day activities and ignore God’s word will be swept away.

Jesus’ words have zero to do with whether the flood was global or local.

Notice that the “hope of the world” are those who are part of God’s plan of salvation which, at that time, flowed through Noah and his family. That they “took refuge on a raft” and were preserved doesn’t imply that all humans were imperiled, but just that the “hope of the world” were – that is, those from whom would come the chosen people of God.

All whom Jesus is talking about were swept away; but, does He say that “all people were eating, drinking,” etc? Or is it just that an unspecified number of “people were eating, drinking,” etc?
