Global warming skeptics as knowledgeable about science as climate change believers, study says

Here’s a question. What happens to the adult beverage, liquid level when the ice starts to melt?
I tried this with a glass of ice water one afternoon. When the ice melted, the water level did not change. The results of this experiment poke a hole in polar ice cap alarmism.

You have been given the pictures. What do you say to them?
I say more pictures are needed, hundreds of pictures, from random times over a two or three hundred year period.

Given your fear about polar ice melting, please tell me why coastal cities are not swamped due to the huge amount of polar ice cap melting in the summer time?

  1. It was K-McD who requested the pictures, and so should respond to them.
  2. Your response represents a shift in goal posts. If some specific evidence is requested and then provided, it should be responded to, and, if necessary, refuted. Not just dismissed with “I want more…”.

I’ll respond too; free speech…

I responded, and refuted, and asked for *real *evidence.

As you probably know ice is less dense than water. That is why it floats.
So when it melts it occupies less volume.
I do not know how much it would take to swamp the coastal cities. Can you tell me?

Agreed. You **may **respond, however the person who requested the specific evidence **should **(also) respond.

You did not refute.

The primary evidence, on which the scientific consensus is based, has been provided earlier in the thread. This was a request for specific, additional evidence (ie. pictures), on the grounds that the other evidence was incomplete without it. The additional evidence has been provided as requested, without conceding that the primary evidence is incomplete.

You did not refute. You asked for more evidence.
You’re right, I did not refute; your lack of convincing evidence, including the supposed “primary evidence on which the scientific consensus is based,” posted earlier in the thread was, well, simply not convincing.

I have seen no proof that a half a degree warming over the past 100 years warrants such anxiety as I see from some in this thread. If it’s any consolation, it may have been a half a degree *cooler *200 years ago.

No, that is your job, since your are a polar ice cap melting alarmist.
Me, the Pope and Bishops have expressed belief in AGW.
Don’t you think we need to take their belief seriously and not just blow it off without good reason.

You, the Pope and the Bishops haven’t produce one ounce of evidence of the existence of global warming, (hoax).

Oh, will this get me excommunicated.

Then if we take the man-made pictures of the ice caps melting as truth, (I’m laughing at this thought) then why haven’t the global beaches disappeared? All that ice has to go somewhere, doesn’t it?

No, but would it make a difference to you if it did? Just askin.

Did you read the IPCC report? Can you refute it?

The AGW issue is similar to many issues involving opinion and belief. The morality comes into play because we are responsible to have a well formed conscience. We have an obligation to educate ourselves, listen to the Church as well as the scientific community, sift through information and misinformation, then follow our conscience, not just believe or not believe as it seems to suit us. We have a responsibility to listen to the scientific majority and the guidance of the Church (even though it is not dogma). If we still have a contrary view what is the basis for it?

Where has the Pope or a Bishop said that 1/2 of a degree increase over the last 100 years is proof of impending doom and gloom?

From Cardinal Pell: catholicnewsagency.com/news/global_warming_threats_exaggerated_says_cardinal_pell/
We have discussed Cardinal Pell before. Basically, he speaks as if he doesn’t know what he is talking about. He is just dabbling in the science, especially by cherry picking, in the same way that most skeptics do, without understanding that the Church’s job is to accept the science, provided that it is reasonable and is well regarded in the scientific community after thorough review. Cardinal Pell stands out alone among Catholic bishops as a dissenter from the science based on personal opinion, while the USCCB, the Pope, and others, take the approach of accepting the confirmed opinion of the scientific community.

If we still have a contrary view what is the basis for it?
What is the basis for my not getting an answer to my question: Why aren’t coastal cities swamped in the summertime due to huge amounts of polar ice melting? There is about a 50% reduction in sea ice up there from March to September. Sea ice melting is a major talking point for global warming enthusiasts, so there had better be an answer to this. Or could it be that polar ice alarmism isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be?

Ah, I see, if you don’t agree with the Cardinal, you insult him. Now who is cherry-picking? And who made you the global warming (hoax) expert?

You are showing your ignorance. This is elementary science. If ice floating in water melts, it DOES NOT put more water in the oceans. All that water is already in the ocean in ice form.

What would raise ocean levels is the melting of continental ice (glaciers) since all of that water IS NOT already stored in ice form IN the oceans.
