Often on this website I see people tell others to go find another church if they don’t like what Catholicism teaches. This seems very un-“universal” to me. I know the truth is the truth whether we like it or not. But wouldn’t the “Catholic,” better yet, Christ-like thing to do would be to encourage the person to try to better understand the teachings of the church and continue their faith journey within the Church? I doubt Jesus would say, “Oh, so you are confused about what I am saying, go away from me until you understand.” 🤷

I don’t think it often applies to the Philosophy forum. Such remarks are usually made to a person who obviously wants to discredit Christianity.

I would point people to resources, give them links on the “Faith” section of this site, and links to other Catholic websites.

Some people just want to argue. Instead of trying to understand why the Church teaches what she does, they just want to argue and talk about how it “feels” wrong to them. If that it the case, then they should find another church.

On the contrary, those who find the Bread of Life discourse in John 6 as tough and hard to understand left, and Jesus never stopped them.

Rather, He watched them walk away, then asked the twelve if they would leave Him as well.

What is important here is that those who do not hold to Catholic teaching, in many cases, are trying to change Catholic teaching to suit themselves.

Some people deserve it and some people don’t. I say that as someone who is very patient with those still learning about Catholicism, as we are all learning.

From my own personal experience, CAF users here don’t really say “leave the Catholic Church”, but more so, “if you don’t like what the Church teaches, why are you here?”. And it’s a good question - if you disagree with what a club teaches, why even be a part of it? There are many times when prominent individuals argue for justifying abortion, female ordination, etc, and still declare themselves Catholic. They come to the Church in order to change it…in order to ensure it is subdued to the modern errors of society. Fortunately, the Church isn’t a democracy and what was taught 2000+ years ago is still taught today. To quote William Shakespeare, “Truth is Truth to the end of the reckoning” (Measure for Measure, Act 5, scene 1).

There are far more things CAF users are guilty of on aggregate, but commanding someone to leave the Church isn’t one of them.
