Has football replaced the Holy Mass?
I don’t think anyone is going to raise their hand and answer “Yes” to this even if it happened to be true for them 😁 (although I’m sure Mass is more important than football for pretty much everyone here).

Do you feel that God still occupies the first place in your life?
Yes, although there are certainly times when I fail at this.
Is the final four tournament more important than the Easter Vigil? Has football replaced the Holy Mass?
I don’t care about these sports, so this is an easy no for me. I do love Easter Vigil and all of Holy Week; I would not miss any of those liturgies if I could possibly help it. But I am fortunate in that my work schedule allows me to attend them; it is not the case for everyone.
Do you still go out of your way to attend Mass while on vacation? Or, does it matter at all?
We do. Last vacation we missed Sunday Mass but it was certainly not for lack of trying. 🙂 We overestimated the availability of Mass in the rather remote area where we were staying, and then we drove to a parish that we found on masstimes.org only to find that that the parish was completely closed.

We had season tickets for 4 or 5 years, so 6-8 Sundays a year we were downtown by 10am…but that’s what Saturday or Sunday night Mass is for, right?

To be fair…the Final Four is way before Easter.

I wondered about that, haha. I was going to say that I had no idea that the Final Four fell on Easter Vigil this year. 😄 Shows how much I follow basketball.

The extent of my basketball knowledge is entering my mother’s room, asking “Who’s playing?”, getting the answer and saying, “Never heard of them.” If a Tennessee team isn’t playing, I’m not interested. And even if one of ours is playing, all the good coaches and players are gone.

I know and am friends with NFL players who have never missed Mass. Players… Not fans… Players…

That’s awesome, HD. Do they have it written in their contracts?

No, contracts are not written like that at the non-superstar level. They have a priority to go to Mass on Sunday. Some teams have priests who travel with them, others make sure some are available in the place of travel. Muslims worship, baptists worship and Catholics worship… Some players are devout Muslims…

People make time for what is important in their lives.

Tom Brady’s dad is a devout Mass attending Catholic. I can’t imagine a greater fan of a football player on a Sunday than him. But if Joe blow fan is struggling to attend then there is something wrong!
