does god choose who believes in him and who doesn’t
romans 9:18 therfore god has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy and and he hardens whom he wants to harden

if so what can we do to obtain his ‘mercy’ if he has chosen us to have hardened hearts.

Romans 9:18 cannot be read in isolation. Read the whole of Romans 9-11 to understand what St. Paul is saying - which is mainly about the role of Israel and the Jews in God’s plan. As a devout Jew who became a Christian after his experience of the risen Christ, Paul is trying to understand how God’s chosen people could have rejected him, and what this implies. It’s erroneous to derive an entire theology of predestination from that verse alone.

God is all benevolent, He reveals himself to all people in numerous ways, its in them to listen and open their hearts to the truth or not.

He doesn’t choose who will believe in Him but He** knows** who will believe in Him and who won’t, the way we know how a movie that we have seen before will end. We don’t make the script or make the movie happen that way, we just know what will happen because we’ve seen it before. God lives outside time and knows who will choose Him and who won’t, and of those He knows will neverr choose Him no matter what, He will harden their heart to accomplish other goals he may have, like with Pharaoh. Since they will never choose Him no matter what, He uses their hard heartedness to get His point across. Kind of like using a known spy to spread disinformation to accomplish your goal. You know they are a spy so you use it to your advantage to bring your enemy down. God just uses some people’s hard heartedness to His advantage since He knows they won’t ever choose Him no matter what anyway.

sorry i don’t wasn’t planning on getting personal
but i was in the occult and now i’m trying to choose christ, i really am, but i can’t

I PERSONALLY would say you may not be spiritually compatible and if so thats FINE. I’m happier and healthier as a pagan. If being happier and healthier sends me to hell I don’t want heaven.

So glad you got out of there. Its quite hard. Most of the times its a point of no return.

What you should be experiencing right now is doubts, questions, confusiong, maybe sadness, and many more things. This is nothing more than satan attacking you, you finally get to know how it feels? Satan dragging you back to where you were.

You gotta fight now, because you have aweakened, you have left dark and come to the light, to the truth. You were strong enough to get out, you are strong enough to stay.

Ephesians 6, 10–18 KJV

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Accept God? How you are unable to accept God?

Your creator, who loves you infinitely to the point of giving his life for you. Why would you choose satan the father of lies, the father of pain and suffering over Jesus? Why would you choose hell over heaven?

What you should do: pray, if you do not know how here are the links: you can read, always good to memorize them though. Pray the rosary.

To Christ Crucified: users.ipfw.edu/jehle/POESIA/ACRISTEN.HTM
Lords Prayer: biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%206:9-13
For forgiveness: biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+51&version=GNT
To Mary: catholicity.com/prayer/prayers.html (all are mostly here)
How to pray the rosary: ewtn.com/devotionals/prayers/rosary/how_to.htm

When attacked pray to saint micheal archangel, the commander od the heavenly army, it is in the link.

Read the bible. The word of God, there is no better thing to do, God talks to us throgh his word, you have no idea all that you can learn feom just one passage, try making some time to read it in your life.

Confess your sins, there is nothing more pleasent than to be in grace, clean pure. All your past erased, just like that, how good is God!

Attend mass daily, with obligation on sundays and other special celebrations, you would need a calendar.

Read about the saints, their lives, their devotion, their writings.

Always have in mind Satan will be attacking you like crazy right now, so be strong in the Lord, and tell Him that you want to leave that life behind and come to the truth, ask him to give you faith, a strong and deep faith.

I PERSONALLY would say you may not be spiritually compatible and if so thats FINE. I’m happier and healthier as a pagan. If being happier and healthier sends me to hell I don’t want heaven.
Thats satan deceiving you.

^ You two guys are actually making me laugh out loud. 😃

OP: Feeling that “you’ll be unable to accept him” is spiritual despair. It’s one of the many temptations that can lead you away from God. As Bishop Challoner said, there is no sin that cannot be forgiven if one repents and turns sincerely to Christ and His Church (commentary on Matthew 12: 32; I’m paraphrasing.) 🙂

Actually, what “predestination”, which some have mentioned, means is that God Is Omniscient and God “knows” who will “repent” and who will never “repent” this side of breath, that is why God came up with a Plan even before creation itself.

This “Plan” is, indeed, GOOD NEWS.

If the GOOD NEWS were not Good News for All than it would not be Good News at all but would be horrific news.

As far as “god has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy and and he hardens whom he wants to harden”, first off I am going to change god to God and that God, in God’s Wisdom, "knows what He is doing and His reason is, ultimately, for the Good of ALL.

Also, even tho I used the “He” pronoun, God is neither a He, a She nor an It, even tho God-Incarnate was a Male, God Is a Being of Love in that Love is NOT an attribute of God but is God’s Very Being.

I dont think there is much to laugh about a guy that comes to catholic forums and instead of helping out a guy asking for advice and guidance he proclaims satan is not real and that paganism is the true religion, that he is happy there, which we all know its not true, and that some people are just not “spiritually compatible” with Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Again I AM FEMALE. I WAS BIOLOGICALLY BORN WITH A VAGINA. That out of the way:
  1. No I don’t believe in Satan, you can, but please don’t accuse me of being too stupid to see when something is a malevolent force in my life.
  2. I’m REALLY not saying paganism is the “true” religion. (frankly there are so many different sorts of paganism from atheistic to hard polytheists like me, that such a statement is ridiculous) I don’t think there is one true religion. I’m telling Isus that he/she (sorry I’m not sure!) should focus on spiritual fulfillment.
  3. I AM happy. Don’t be so presumptuous as to think you know my emotional state.
  4. I think there are people who aren’t compatible with Christianity. But if you search my posts for a little bit, you will see I’m definitely a RELATIVIST, which means this is all my OPINION and it is bloody FINE if you don’t agree!
*Note: Just because you don’t like my advice doesn’t mean it isn’t advice.

Its amaizing you are all the same. Dat agression lol. Are you really THAT feminist that calling you a “guy” makes you react in such way?

So if you dont think there is one true religion, you are deny absolute truth. In other word you believe ther are no absolute truths. But you are stating as an absolute truth that there arent any. See the contradiction there?

About satan, well, his deeds and work is pretty much infront of your eyes, but its fine, satans biggest trick was to make the world believe he does not exist.
Aslo, as long as you stay out of the truth, satan is happy with that and so he wont bother you much, the trouble comes when you try to change as the OP. He will experience it, if he is t right now. The evidence for satan is so overhelming.

A rich person will tell the same thing, “I am happy”. You cant be happy without God in your heart, in your life.

Regarding Christianity, there is no such thing as compatability, I mean, to state something like that you surely know nothing about Christianity. Well, you are already a pagan, that tells a lot. I would ofeten refrain from comments like these, but I see you heart is made of stone, you are stubborn and with your eyes closed to evidence and divine revelations. Words will not convert you, I will pray for you.

I find it frustrating that since I want to engage in debate I must be male. Also I had already stated in this thread that I am female.

I accept the idea there might be one truth, but I can’t prove what it is so I’ll acknowledge all possibilities and go with what suites me personally for my life.

Give me the evidence with sources 🙂

but thats not the case with all rich people. its more about connections with your fellow man and your spiritual needs.

No they won’t. If Jesus loves me he can get off his behind and tell me himself. I know what you doctrines are but I disagree.
