Hello Everybody!

Whew! I’m the one responsible for starting this thread. I hadn’t the smallest clue it would run so long and into so many pages. My husband had major surgery. I’m busy caring for him. I really haven’t had much time for the net. I haven’t managed to read all of the posts on the thread. I’m not sure what has and hasn’t been discussed. I skimmed a few. Coverage sure sounds comprehensive.

I did see Tietjen asking me to respond to where I had posted it has been proven that people are born gay. Apologies to Tietjen. Work is being done in this field I believe but it hasn’t been proven yet.

I do believe there has been a post saying that in Genesis God commanded people to be fruitful and multiply. The real reason God said to be fruitful and multiply way back then 5000 years ago was because the earth needed to be populated. We now have 6 to 6 1/2 billion people. Times have changed.

I did find this website which is a Catholic gay website. Again I didn’t find time to read it but perhaps it may be of interest to someone.

so the meaning isnt extremly clear because there are other words the writer could have used to mean “homosexual”.
And yet he, St. Paul, didn’t. Shouldn’t that at least make a translator pause?

Perhaps St. Paul used a unique word to emphasize just how gravely sinful homosexual acts are.

From here (link posted earlier):
These terms are very rare: “Malakos” appears only here in St. Paul, as for “arsenokoites,” it is the first recurrence in the whole of Greek literature.
“Malakos” means, literally, “gentle, silky, delicate.” In a homosexual relationship, it designates the passive partner, but it can also refer to homosexual prostitutes or very effeminate men.
The study of the meaning of “arsenokoites,” and the clearly sexual context of the list of prohibitions invalidate these last two marginal interpretations.
“Arsenokoites” means literally “to lie with a man.” Formed by the association of two words present in Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, it quite probably appeared in the Judeo-Hellenistic context. Rabbis used the Hebrew expression “lie with a man,” taken from the Hebrew text of Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13, to express the homosexual relationship.
They did not limit it to pederasty. All these elements seem sufficient to us to affirm that the most plausible theory is that this term refers to men having the active role in relations of a homosexual nature. The meaning of “arsenokoites” allows one to limit the meaning of “malakos” to the passive partner in a homosexual relationship.
Homosexual acts, therefore, are considered extremely grave, directly offending the divine Law. This teaching is perfectly consistent with Judaism of that time.
No distinction is related to a question of sexual orientation, or of circumstances of the act, nor is it indicated. It is the act itself which is condemned.

“Us” being homophobic “Christian” hypocrites who blindly approach scripture and history with preconceptions and false notions and conclusions. Why don’t you give the link I posted its due attention and see the fallacy within your post yourself.

Since you feel the need to resort to namecalling, I can only conclude that you realize your position has no merit.

Why don’t you give the links I posted their due attention and see the fallacy of the information contained within your link?

Pause to consider what was meant?

Absolutly.

Can we know what he meant?

Unless we build a time machine and go back in time to ask him, I dont think that we can for sure.

Given that there were words/terms that he could have used to describe homosexual acts and chose not to, may suggest that he wasnt refering to “homosexuality”.

I guess that’s one defunt, half witted, attempt to studying scripture. I’m sure, however, if you thought long and hard enough you could muster up a Plan B.

:o Wait a minute, you’re agreeing with me! Sorry bout that. I’m so used to being attacked that i just reacted out of self defense.

Do you have any suggestions for a plan B?

Damn and I just threw out that HG Wells book.

Well, one COULD look at what the Early Church Fathers had to say about homosexuality. Given that some of them were taught by St. Paul and the other Apostles, they’d probably have a good idea of what his view, as well as the view of the early Church, on homosexuality was.
Uhhhh… In case you haven’t noticed Sherllock, we have not only looked at the “early teachings” but also the early translation of scripture (Septuagint). And the early context of the translations and their teachings. And are you ready for this? : NON USE THE INFAMOUS “ARSENOKOITES” as found in 1. Cor. and 1 Tim, TO REFERENCE HOMOSEXUALITY.
Maybe you ought to look into investing on some schooling after all.

I highly doubt it!
Resorting (once again) to insults only weakens what little credibility you have left.

If the translations were, as you claim, so ambiguous, it is unlikely that the early Church would have condemned homosexuality as strongly as it did. Moreover, Sacred Tradition makes it clear that homosexuality was never approved by Jesus or the apostles, not to mention the early Church fathers.

So you can quibble about the translation all you like, but it won’t make one whit of difference on Judgment Day. 🤷

1.Sexual relations outside of marriage is a sin.

2.Homosexuals can not be married in the Catholic Church.
  1. One cannot go to confession and make a false statement that they promise not to sin again and lie because they have no intention to cease their sexual relations outside of marriage (fornication)
  2. Therefore a homosexual that has no intent on ceasing same sex sexual relationships is out of communion with the Church and cannot receive the Sacraments unless truly repents and returns to the confessional to promise not to fornicate again with all his heart, mind, and soul.
However as with anyone not in communion counseling, understanding, help, and prayers are to be offered
