God made babies look cute

Thank God for making babies cute And then maybe it is the stresses of this world that made us not as cute when we grow up? Haha! Just throwing it out there.

The only parts of our body that don’t grow are our eyeballs. Your eyes at birth are the same size as they are when you are an adult, which is why babies have such big adorable eyes, and part of why they look so cute. We place a lot of value on looking at other people’s eyes because we value sight, but also because they are so important to non-vocal communication - as the saying goes, the eyes are the mirror of the soul.

I don’t know if other species also maintain the size of the eyeball throughout life, or if it is true to the same extent. If so, that could have been part of God’s plan to help us bond with our children, and all children as a group, and to help protect babies - it is harder to harm someone you find cute. It could also be true of primates as a whole (chimp and orangutan babies also have big eyes), but I suspect that if God used the natural process of selection to gradually create and shape the human form before endowing it with a soul, then our closest relatives will of course share many of our characteristics.

There are babies who are born with severe deformities for a variety of reasons. So, it’s not a given that God made babies cute.

They’re still cute in their own way because babies and their innocence is enough to make them cute.

For myself it is not necessarily the actual appearance of infants, nor their innocence, that trigger the “cute” response in me. It’s also their movements and sounds. Thankfully my hubby was in full agreement. We spent hours simply enjoying watching the kids when they were little - much better entertainment than whatever was on TV. Loved to see them figure out how to grab something, how to move, etc.

Now with 2 children “fully winged” as it were, and 2 more starting “flight training”, I think I’m going to miss it when the nest is completely empty. But I’d much rather have it empty than have them still perched here once they leave toddlerhood! Mine aren’t deliberately obnoxious, but being that age, they just can’t seem to help it!

LOL! Nope - that’s against our family rules! There’s a reason we have a small home with only one bathroom. They are much more likely to find work and/or roommates to sustain themselves than ever go back to the strict bathroom regulations we have here

Of course, if the situation should arise, I wouldn’t leave them entirely homeless. There’s always room for one more at dinner. Also, we have camping equipment and I’d be willing to let them use our backyard.

Seriously - I am thankful the oldest was able to get her masters and a job that paid for her to become fully certified in her field and so now she makes more than we do. God is good.

I think parents always think their own babies are especially cute. Must be some kind of imprinting thing shortly after birth - oxytocin or lack of sleep or whatever. I happen to think my own kids are the cutest ones ever. But I know other parents who feel the same about their own kids, and I just kinda shrug - just don’t see it.

Actually, a baby’s eyeballs grow from approximately 18 mm in diameter at birth to approximately 24 mm at adulthood. Not a lot of growth, though, compared to other body parts.

This is very amusing.

“Cute” is subjective. Babies are cute… because you think they are. God made us so that we love our children; that doesn’t necessarily mean they are always beautiful. Notice: no matter how ugly a baby is, usually its mother LOVES it and thinks it is the most adorable thing in existence.
