I am a single Man, so I will need to hear from the married couples to proove my theory.

Sex is often made to look like the ultimate pleasure, but I have logic that refutes this claim.

I am single but my parents have divorced a number of times, so I have seen marriages fail.

It seems to me that food is just as good if not better then sex.
I have not read in the bible that God ever said sex was the ultimate
pleasure.

Think about your favorite food, and washing it down with your favorite drink…Ahhhhhh!!!
Pure pleasure!!!

Sex on the other hand, I hear is not always good. I hear that sometimes people are not very sexualy compatible…but they don’t
know it because they canot have sex prior to the marriage.

This is not a problem with food and drink. Tast something you don’t like??? Well you get something different.

Sex canot be the ultimate pleasure
because if it was, divorce would be ilogical. Despite problems you would have access to the greatest pleasure on the planet, that would make remaining married better then divorce. But that is not the case.

Food never gets old!!!
I love my favorite foods, just as much as I did 10 years ago.

I magine being at a reasturant, you have a steaming hot delicious
plate in front of you.
And yet you can still look at the persons plate that’s sitting next to you and yet you do not sin.

Food may be something God created DIRECTLY to be pleasure. Sex was not created for pure pleasure because the purpose is to have children.

Now the bible dose say to be intoxicated by your mate…to be in an extasy constantly…to rejoice with the wife of your youth. But this is poetic and possibly not literally meaning what it says.

My conclusion is that food is better
then sex with all drawbacks being considerd.

Food cannot be the ultimate pleasure because if it was, food allergies and Celiac would not occur.

Thinking about my favorite food and washing it down with my favorite drink is all I can do. If I ate or drank either, I would be very sick. 🤷

I am blessed to have a very loving husband. One where I don’t need to worry about food being the ultimate pleasure. 😉

I quite like my favorite foods. Fresh, hot bread with some cheese, washed down with wine (or in my nearly-always-nursing-state, grape juice!) is a pure pleasure.

And I would turn it down instantly for sex with my husband! 😃 I really, REALLY enjoy sex with my husband–and I have the five children to prove it! 👍

The purpose of sex is not just procreation; it’s also just as much about the unity of the married couple. Just like the purpose of food is to nourish the body, and also to taste good.

I think that food and sex are both good, each in its proper place. But neither one, nor any earthly delight, is the ultimate pleasure.

I think the troubled marriages you have seen have given you a bad idea about marriage and sex.

Sex will not keep a couple married, no matter how good it is…It’s not a fix all for marriage problems.

There are no words to describe the love I feel for my husband! It is beyond measure!! I love him so very much that to think about it makes my eyes fill with tears! But it’s not because of our love life, but because of the man that he is! Because of the husband and father he is. He leads this family through his faith in Christ. He is the greatest gift God could ever have given me and I treasure him and our relationship!
When you are married to someone that you love to that degree and you live your faith everyday. Sex is not only about pleasure you get from it, but about renewing your vows and being one, open to life and all God has to give you.

Food is something we need to survive and as much as I do enjoy good food, I don’t consider it a pleasure. God cautions us to not make idols in this world, but to focus our eyes upon Him. When you take something that is an ordinary thing, food, t.v. or sex and make it more than it really is, make it all about the pleasure you receive from it, then you are heading towards sin. And you can look at your neighbors plate and sin. Deuteronomy 5:21"… you shall not set your desire on your neighbor’s house or land, his manservant or his maidservant, his ox or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor"

And given my choice between my very favorite food or being with my husband…there is no contest…my husband would win every time!!

What about music… that dose not make you ill. Your favorite CD?
Just rock out to your favorite music. Is that not pure pleasure?

God made many things for us to enjoy in this world… good food, good music, wonderful sex… people find beauty and pleasure in lots of different ways and forms.

Marriage is not just about sex. Sex is a beautiful gift of marriage, but is not the basis of it. Marriage is sacramental. Sex is a beautiful expression of that sacrament.

We shouldn’t get hung up over the “pleasures” of this world… YES, there are MANY and we should give thanks to God for His wonderful gifts!!! But that’s not what life is ALL about.

Your favorite food is bread!?!?!
I would pick sex over bread LOL

Im talking about RIBS…PIZZA…Spagetti…
chicken wings…cake…pie…yum

try some of those things.

This is a very amusing thread. I think one of the greatest pleasures is a five hour long real-time strategy game where your opponent seems to predict your moves, but through an adaptive strategy and tactical micromanagement, you barely manage to pull through and destroy his base before he gets yours. :yeah_me:

Halo Wars is coming out…😃

Well, last I checked, there wasn’t a book of the Bible that was extensively dedicated to singing the praises of Food. Song of Solomon, however, does say a lot of great things about marital relations.

You know it is amusing!! I first thought, that maybe he really had no idea about marriage and sex, but now I think, he still has no idea about marriage and sex AND he is just making a joke of it…it’s a pity. He’s missing out on a lot if he chooses pizza and ribs over a wife and family.🤷

Food is not even close. I love pizza, banana splits, pie. If I’m eating one of those and my wife comes out looking rather sexy and wanting to spend some intimate time with me, I’m going to throw down the food in a hurry.😃

I was not asking about the meaning of life. Only if sex is truly the greatest pleasure.

I think its different to different people.

Wait a minuet…I may have to have a second thought. what you say is logical.

In a LOVING and MONOGAMOUS relationship, sex is a beautiful and very pleasureable bond between a couple. I don’t really think about it as the “most” or “not most” pleasurable, etc…but physically, it can be very pleasing.

If sex is only viewed as pleasure, however, it devalues the whole thing. Just like food isn’t only for pleasure either. We have an obesity problem in the world, because of people’s attachment to food to serve as comfort, pleasure, and a way to assuage boredom at times. I’m guilty of all three, sometimes:blush: But, food really is to give us energy and sustenance…not to only provide pleasure.

So…if we were to look at eating as more of a way to refuel our bodies, instead of choosing what we eat, by the mood we’re in…or what tastes best…we might not think it all that* pleasing*, just something to keep us healthy.

If you are looking at ways to take your mind off of sex as a single man…comparing it to something ‘better’ like food, or another activity…is actually devaluing it. Because sex is not a commodity, like food. It’s not even a necessity, like food. :o I know you are not meaning to devalue it, but if you start looking for things that are ‘better’ than sex…you are only looking at sex as an act of pleasure, that can be replaced by another…better ‘thing.’

I also believe people who would say food is better than sex…probably aren’t having a healthy sex life with their spouse. Not sure if any food could compare, really. But, again, I look beyond sex as mere pleasure…it is pleasurable, but it’s also a way to deepen our spiritual and emotional connections to our spouses. Food will never do that! :o

Prayer is always best when wanting to overcome thoughts that you wish you didn’t have about various things. Just my two cents.🙂

If food were a guilt-free pleasure, dieting wouldn’t be a money-making industry in the Western world.

There are whole website devoted to what people call “food porn”–beautiful pictures of food.

Food can be made into an idol, just as sexual pleasure can. And one’s love of food can become disordered as well as one’s sexual desire.

Food was created to nourish us, to taste good so we would eat it, yes, but look at the rates of obesity in America. Gluttony is a sin, and results in serious health problems.

I agree with the poster who pointed to music as a better pleasure–if I didn’t have music, life would be very dreary indeed.
