In my view, the Bible can be liken to God’s instruction manual for us. Every large organization has to have its own rule-sets to function and to distinguish themselves from other similar organizations. The Bible is a “Catholic Book” and God’s instructions were meant for Catholics.

Other Protestant, non-Catholic denominations (I have read that there are about 33.000 different versions of Christianity) use a “Catholic Book”, the Bible, and interpret it in way that lines up with theirs beliefs and then create their own rules. Different *rule-sets and different *beliefs, equal different faiths and religions.

If you have ever wondered why there are so many versions of Christianity, it is because people over the years, have wanted to have God on their terms and not on God’s terms. Moreover, there are many here who belong to the “religion of there on intellect”

**Examples of a few “Christian” beliefs; **
-There are some “Christian Religions” who condone “homosexual marriages”.
-There are some “Christians” who don’t believe you have to attend Church on Sunday
-There are some “Christian Religions” who allow the members to divorce and remarry . as many times as they like
-The are some religions who promise “abundant” rewards, if you give them Money.
-There are some religions, whose ministers pretend to heal people.
-There are some religions where people pretend to speak in tongues.
17 Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Now if you read these verse, it does not allow for 33,000 different belief systems or versions of Christianity. One Church was given the authority from God and it was the Roman Catholic Church…

I believe, all that is true and good in other religions are true and good; However the Catholic Church represents the fullness of truth and goodness and the others represent partial truths

“Protestant” faiths are modifications from the original, to satisfy their own needs and to meet their own “rule-sets”, God on their terms.

There can only be One True Church and it must represent, God on His terms. How does are “Protestant” friends here explain 33,000+ different Christian denominations and why don’t they try to fix there own house before they try to “fix” ours?

Jimmy

why don’t you do a study in “Ecclesiology” the word is in the dictionary, just in case

Gods word today is as true as it was when He spoke the worlds into existence.
God still heals.

The spiritual gifts are still in use fro the edification of Gods church to build up His church.

God is using Protestants today to bring people to Christ, to give shelter to the homeless, to feed the poor, to consule the widow, to strengthen the fathersless, to help the foriegner, to work toward peace, to heal the sick, to mend the brokenhearted, to give sight to te blind, to proclaim the day of the Lord,

If you have issue with any of this take it up with God.

Last time I checked, the Bible wasn’t just for Catholics. Nor was God just for Catholics – He is waiting for anyone who will come to Him.

Aside from the Sabbath injunction (which was in the OT and so does not apply any more), where does it say in the Bible that you have to go to church on Sunday or otherwise be guilty of mortal sin?

There are some Christian denominations where people actually DO see people healed during prayer. One of my closest friends has seen this happen. I have been told by two different people that they were able to understand and speak Spanish when they needed to, even though they had never studied it and should not have been able to speak it at all. I think that is a legitimate gift of tongues.

The weeds are mixed in with the wheat. Just because some Protestant denominations have screwed up beliefs about some things does not mean that all Protestants are guilty. In the end, only God knows who is truly right and He can judge that.

People in this world nearly always want to be right. Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox, we’re all guilty of this. Some people can go beyond the little things and say, okay, you are Christian as well. Some can’t. More people need to be able to do that.

If it was possible, I would LOVE to be able to go through the statements of faith of all these “33,000+” denominations, compare them, and lump them into bigger categories, see how many had essentially the same beliefs. I am nearly positive I would be able to do that if I had access to all of the statements of faith and the time!

242 of these denominations are Roman Catholic, because this particular group is counting the same denomination in different countries as different denominations. I don’t think that’s the best way of figuring that out, but that’s how they did it, so…

Well Jimmy, that is because each one of those 33,000 plus religions, calling themselves Christianity, believes they are the one that is correct.
🙂

Hi Jimmy, your source is flawed. According to the same source there are hundreds if not thousands of Catholic demoninations too. So, when you throw that number out, all we do is laugh at your lack of knowledge or lack of honestly whichever it is.

Really? Wow, this is the first time I’ve heard of this!

Could you list down some of these Catholic denominations please? I’d like to learn more.

Hi Daniel,

Great, we have an expert here, maybe you can provide a better source, which lists all of the non-Catholic and Protestant divisions and sub-divisions. I can’t wait to see how smart you are. 😃

Then you can answer my question…Why?

While you are at it, maybe you could find the study, which explain’s why Catholics have the lowest divorce and suicide rates?

Peace 👍

This is not so Daniel.

There is one church, and within that church there are several “rites” of that church depending upon where they are located and the society they exist within.

Any church claiming to be Catholic which is not in union with rome is not a part of the Catholic Church. period.

As far as non catholic churches, there are far more than 33,000 denominations, just look in your phone book and you will find dozens, then drive down the streets of your town, wherever you live, and there again you will find far more that haven’t even had time to list theirs in the phone book. Some don’t last long enough to place their ad in a phone book. Anyone can start a new religion claiming it to be Christian, yet that does not make it the Church, for Christ is not divided and is not schizophrenic in his teaching.
These folks have no authority to start a “church” and have no connection with the apostles or their successors, whom Christ built His church upon the foundation of, particularly cephas(rock, peter).

Jimmy

why don’t you do a study in “Ecclesiology” the word is in the dictionary, just in case
Short answer: Because as a Roman Catholic my focus is on Jesus Christ

*Which one? Roman Catholic ecclesiology, Luther ecclesiololgy or ecumenical ecclesiology? and so on…I am not looking for “loopholes”, I am a Roman Catholic, so I accept the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. 🙂 *

Probably because I already know that to be, One, One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church or One Body in Christ, there must be a commonality in beliefs and one shared belief. All properly, Baptized Christians are “Brothers and Sisters in Christ” but they are not all members of Christ’s True, One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.

Not all Baptized will go to heaven; however, because of the divine mercy of God, we all share, to a certain extant, the hope in Salvation. I pray for true Christian unity, unity in one Christian belief. Christ said His family was those who heard, believed and did His will… And He was talking about all of it.

I would rather do “too much” as a Catholic, instead of “not enough” as a “Protestant”. Moreover, I do not want to do or say those things, which might turn out to be heretical.

*Hope is found in the New Testament more than 100 times, “guaranteed” is found twice and it does not have anything to do with our Salvation. *

To “believe” in Jesus, means to believe in all of it, not just the parts we like. We must believe and act on all that Jesus said, taught and did. Christianity was never intended to be a democracy or “mob-rule” and it cannot, nor should not ever be summed up by a “handful” of Bible verses, which is what many try to do here. This type of behavior results in the minimization of Christianity and it results in many errors in Christian beliefs. We were instructed, in the Bible, to avoid personal interpretation of the Bible.

Sadly, many today would rather have God on their terms, instead of God on His terms. So, they are looking for “loopholes”, or the “religion”, or Bible verse, or the minister who best suits them. Many here assume themselves to be “Infallible” in their beliefs and because of their inflated ego have become slaves to the religion of “their own intellect” and this has caused many divisions and sub-divisions in Christianity. It has also caused many to become slaves to sin as well.

*I fully and completely surrender to Christ and His Roman Catholic Church. *

Note: Many of my comments here (above) are of a general nature and not directed specifically towards you.

Peace 👍

Hello Hisalone,

Nope…All this is great and anything or anyone who brings a person closer to Jesus, closer to the Christian Truth and closer to His Catholic Church, is doing a good thing. 🙂

Peace

go to the site, click on catholic and you will get a list. some of them are: Armenian(eastern rite), Bulgarian, Byzantine,
Chaldean, Coptic…on and on and on.

According to the site it comes to 242 catholic denominations.

This site also list 1600 JW, mormon, arian, christian science, unitarians/universialist, gnostics:eek: , etc “christian” denominations. This alone should make every christian discount this site.

So the 33k is not protestant only, but catholic, orthodox, anglican and non christian (though the site calls them christian)denominations.

If you want to consider this site scholarly and correct…you have 242 catholic denominations and the Roman Catholic Church is just as christian as the gnostics:rolleyes:

I would put this site in the grouping of just plain wrong. Unfortunately I am starting to see the lengths some will go to prove a point…to the point where they are being less than scholarly in choosing source documents. What next…watching a fantasy movie for theological source documentation? 😉

Jimmy if you accept this site as scholarly…I guess you accept the Jesus Seminar also?:nope: Did not think so!😃

Dear Jimmy,

Please remember that God will judge us individually, not based on the denomination.

Hi MarkBrown,

You guys are funny…You are the second person here to claim that the source I linked here is inaccurate and the second person here not to provide your own source… So what is the total number of non-Catholic Christian and Protestant denominations?

Simple criticizing someone else is not evidence of anything. This situation, where there exists so many divisions and sub-divisions of Protestantism and non-Catholic Christianity has become such a mess that I don’t think anyone today could come up with a truly accurate number, and you don’t see a problem with this? This lack of Christian unity (unity in belief) is anti-biblical.

I can state with absolute certainty the there exist One Roman Catholic Church and that is the denomination that I belong to. All other “Christian” denominations followed Catholicism.

Please try again…Thank you… 😃

Peace 👍

Hi swariffin,

I’m sorry but I have no idea what your point is here. I am not a real big fan of “sound-bites” or “one-liners”. I like to ask…and then what? Or, what are you basing that on? Why would you feel it necessary to remind me “that God will judge us individually, not based on the denomination”? And what does that even mean, especially practically speaking?

Can you please clarify?

My short response, I guess would be; if your “denomination” teaches heretical beliefs, then I would have to respectively disagree with you.

Peace 👍

Peace be with you too, dear Jimmy.

I apologize if you misunderstood me. I was just saying that God will judge us individually based on our individual faith and love toward others. God definitely will not judge people based on the denomination the person join during his/her lifetime. I believe that all people regardless of religion/race/economic/social status/ political groups/whatever may enter heaven, provided that (1) he/she loves God to his/her outmost, (2) Loves other person as he/she loves him/herself, and (3) believe that he/she cannot love God without loving other human and vice versa. I hope you can understand me better, brother.
