This Sunday my niece is being baptized and I’m to be the godmother … if all goes smoothly, that is! It seems like so many obstacles are cropping up at the last minute, and after I’d tried so hard to get everything in order way ahead of time on my end of things.

Firstly when I called this week to make sure everything was all arranged with the church, I was told that the lady at the rectory had informed the mother that she should simply “Catch the priest before he goes out the door after Mass and he’ll do the Baptism.”

Maybe that’s how they do things in some parishes, but the way I’ve been used to seeing it is that the priest knows beforehand, that the family sits together in the front of the church, and that sometimes the priest even asks the congregation to pray for the one or ones who are going to be newly baptized right after Mass.

Then tonight I received a phone call telling me I needed to mail my “letter of recommendation to be a godmother” from my parish to my niece’s parish! Well, the good news is that way back in February I obtained said letter from my rectory. However, at that point, when I asked what I was supposed to do with the letter, I was given the impression that I just show up the day of the Baptism, letter in hand. Thing is, I now have to mail it last minute from Ohio to New York and hope it makes it in time, when I could’ve mailed it two months ago if I’d only known!

Fortunately at least my computer copier cooperated and so I’ve made a few copies before I send off the original into the unknown … I take it that keeping the original and sending a copy would be considered bad form.

Well, when I made a retreat with the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist this past December, they would get all excited and even happy when obstacles arose, and say, “We must be making the devil mad, and there must be a lot of graces that God wants to give us, for so many difficulties to be happening.”

And I do happen to think that my soon-to-be little goddaughter is a special one …

Thanks for any prayers!

Hey… Dont worry. Everything is going to be great. Smoothe sailing. Here is a prayer for you to give you the peace that you need. I just wish that someone would ask me if I would be a GodMother. That must be an honor. You have my prayers. What a blessing you have been given!!!

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Dear God. Please free Your daughter, Phoenix, from her anxiety. She is trying so hard to make sure everything goes so smoothly for her Sunday event but obstacles arise one after another. Please help her and guide her lovingly and gently to be able to do everything that needs to be done without the anxiety she is feeling. Bless Your daughter, Phoenix, always. Amen, amen

Blessings on this wonderful Sacrament! Prayers for you!

The Gracious and merciful Lord gave you lungs with which to take deep breaths. He gave you a loving heart with which to reflect on the goal of the baptism. He blessed you with a precious niece, who fills your heart with joy. Since He knows of everything that is to come, He will graciously provide for every eventuality that occurs. Thank and praise Him for the honor and responsibility of being a Godmother.

Merciful and loving Creator, You have arranged all things for the greater good. Everything in heaven and on earth is subject to Your commands. In your inestimable love, watch over this baptism, rendering it a blessed and joyous occasion that will erase all doubts and anxieties. Restore the faith and trust of those who have stepped forward to do Your will. We ask this through Christ, our Risen Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God for ever and ever. Amen! Alleluia!

Divine Holy Spirit shower your grace on this family.:byzsoc:

Being a godmother is kind of a rocky road all the way:) , It is only a sign of reality, don’t worry it will all be fine. My eldest godaughter made a nightmare out of her own baptism:) , we were sooo embarased at the church. She is now a beautiful 18 year old and is giving us a couple of headaches, because she thinks shes’ thirty. Is all part of life…Enjoy your ride, God holds you:thumbsup:

Thank you so much …

… for the kindness of your prayers and encouragement:

What has also made this week harder is that I spent most of it battling off two illnesses at once: upper respiratory flu virus and a stomach virus. Both are going around at work big time, but today am feeling better physically for the out-of-town trip starting tomorrow for the Baptism.

Have e-mailed a scan of my letter of recommendation to the mother, mailed the original in hopes it will arrive at the rectory by tomorrow, and will bring a copy with me.

I will be putting your names on a list and praying for all of you the next time I attend Eucharistic Adoration.

:blessyou:
