Raymond Arroyo announced this last night on Fox that on Feast of Corpus Christi Pope Benedict XVI started distributing Communion on the tongue and while kneeling. Does anyone have any idea if this will be mandated from Rome and done here in the states? I’m hoping and praying that it will - and soon!

I don’t know if it will be, but unfortunately this is the wrong forum for the question, I think, since it’s a Latin Church issue. :o

Peace and God bless!

It will be the norm for those receiving from the pope only. The other priests distributing communion at papal masses will still do it the usual way it has been done since the late 60’s

Pope Benedict is leading by example. Bishops will slowly begin bringing back the communion rail and communion on the tongue. Pope Benedict s simply acknowledging that to receive kneeling and on the tongue is the most respectful way to receive Christ.

Is there a Church document stating this? Or is it a matter of your personal opinion?

Yes – he is teaching by example. Unfortunately it seems —some are threatened by this.

It is fascinating, almost amusing sometimes, to observe how some people watch, like a pack of panting dogs, every move and utterance by the Holy Father, as if each move and utterance were some precursor of doctrinal, dogmatic, or disciplinary statement to come.

Perhaps people should read the entire article, rather than clinging to snippets that suit their agenda.

Gee how “nice” of you --ethelzguy. Comparing people who take note of our Holy Father’s actions — to a back of panting dogs.

It will now be the norm at all Papal Masses! Glory to God!😃

Yes, check it out:
In the Vatican newspaper interview, Msgr. Marini …said “it is necessary not to forget that the distribution of Communion in the hand, from a juridical standpoint, remains up to now an indult,” which is an exemption from a general requirement that is granted by the Vatican to the bishops’ conferences which have requested it. He said the pope’s adoption of the traditional practice of distributing Communion “aims to highlight the force of the valid norm for the whole church.”

However, the pope’s preference for the traditional practice is not meant to “take anything away from the other” permissible form of standing or receiving the Eucharist in the hand, he said…

I have found that nothing our Holy Father does or says should ever be interpreted before we have looked for the subtleties in his meaning, because subtleties are always there. Benedict XVI is far more likely than John Paul II was to say and do things that can be grossly misinterpreted, if taken out of their full context. His way is an excellent metaphor for our Catholic faith and practice, for the richness of our entire tradition is full of such depth of meaning.

It seems that our resident sandalistas are irked that their once-trendy way of receiving Holy Communion has fallen out of favour with the Holy Father.

“Doesn’t he get it? We’re all grown up now. Who could we possibly have to kneel before? The Lord Jesus Christ? Pffft.”

ethelzguy is surely threatened by this.
Form the article posted by ethelzguy which he did not read.

"Kneeling and receiving Communion on the tongue highlights “the truth of the real presence (of Christ) in the Eucharist, helps the devotion of the faithful and introduces the sense of mystery more easily,” he said in a June 26 interview with the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano.

Pastorally speaking, he said “it is urgent to highlight and recover” these aspects of the sacredness and mystery of the Eucharist in modern times.

The “valid norm” is to receive kneeling and on the tongue.
To receive standing and in the hand is an indult

Yes – Pope Benedict XVI is highlighting the force of the valid norm (kneeling and on the tongue) for the whole Church. He is showing us that Rome allowed the indult (exemption) but not with the intent that it would undermine/abrogate the universal norm of communion kneeling and on the tongue.

Perhaps the Holy Father is simply reiterating that receiving on the tongue is not to be considered the extraordinary form. That there is an ordinary form does not imply that the extraordinary form is inferior, does it?

I think most of us are expressing an opinion. Most of us are more reverent toward the Vicar of Christ than you have been.

As the article stated it is " the pope’s preference for the traditional practice". If the Vicar of Christ prefers the norm and not the indult I think there is a lesson to be learned. He is not going to abrogate the indult. He will lead by example hoping to influence the succesors of the Apostles to follow his lead.

Certainly not to you. If you go back a few posts, I think you’ll figure it out for yourself.
Thanks. I didn’t want to have given offense unintentionally, but it happens. Things don’t always read as I had intended to type them.

I have never had the opportunity to receive communion on the tongue at the rail. It sounds lovely.
