Wow! Have y’all lost your minds?
I’m starting to question your intentions of bringing all this up. Are you bragging that you got special dispensation or what? How are your ramblings and defensive measures going to help us get to heaven? How are you setting a good example? If I be you, I’d count my blessings and just move on.

Meet St. Ignore.
How can you justify a post like this? This member was relating her situation, which was in answer to the OP. She was questioned and criticized by another poster and she responded. Every answer was perfectly in keeping with the “rules” as outlined in the CC. And you accuse her of “bragging”? Awful.

You are placing something before God. That is a grave matter.

Caring for the sick, bad weather, etc.; is not the same thing as going on a vacation away from God.

Why do you think that it is not a mortal sin when the church says that it is? Isn’t the church the final authority on these matters?
And you are making judgements about this posters motives and intentions. Talk about rhetoric! “Vacation away from God?” The poster explained his particular situation, received his dispensation from his priest and has done absolutely nothing against the Church’s teaching. Yet you are judging his relationship with God? Dear Lord, I feel like I’ve fallen into a rabbit hole full of Pharisees.

Show me WHERE the person *that I addressed *said that he received dispensation from his priest?

Before YOU rush to judgment, be sure of what you are talking about!

I confused the two because my head was spinning from the responses being given. The poster did not receive a dispensation but did say:
Of course I would confess it, but it is not what I would see as a Mortal Sin, no deliberate attempt to defy God.
Sorry for jumping the gun but I still think it is not our place to speculate on the disposition of one’s soul or one’s motive when clearly they are in communication with their priest. It is between them and their Pastor.
On Thanksgiving weekend my family is going to go to the desert for the weekend. If I join them I will not be able to go to Mass. Is it a sin to choose going Camping for the weekend where I can’t go to mass over staying home where I can go to mass on Sunday?
The original question was answered in the first post.
Contact your Pastor to see about recieving a dispensation from Mass for that weekend.

This thread definately makes me want to become a Protestant. What a bunch of constricting, constraining nonesense. I know, though, that these extreme views are probably NOT representative of mainstream Catholic thought. It can’t be that camping with one’s family in the wilderness is a sin. It just can’t be.
It sounds like to me you are already a protestant, since you are PROTESTING against the Church.😦

This thread is now closed. It died of a terminal lack of kindness.

Thanks to those who attempted to provide proper protocol for the OP’s situation.
