Going to Confession When One Doesn't "Feel" Sorry

Confession without some genuine contrition - perfect or imperfect - isn’t even valid, so you CAN’T attend Confession ‘just so you can receive Holy Communion’. You won’t be able to receive, at least not without sacrilege, since your sins won’t have been absolved.
I’m not sure I’d agree with that. I’m sure many times many feel that they will only repeat the sin if they go to confession. But they feel they need some counseling anyway. Maybe some stress relief will do the trick. Maybe someone to convince them to amend their lives is what they’re looking for and maybe a brand new start by receiving communion as well.

A few times I have been less than pleased with my confessions. Or with the advice that has been given. But hey, I keep trying, even if it’s two steps forward and one step back. Because I believe in Christ’s healing powers over me.

“They will only repeat the sin if they go to confession” - what do you mean?

The desire to cease sinning, for whatever reason, is contrition. In your case it sounds like there’s a recognition that you shouldn’t be sinning and a desire and attempt to sin no more. That’s imperfect contrition. You’re sorry for your sin because you recognise its wrongfulness.

Thanks to everyone, for all your thoughts and advice on this subject.

I have been to Confession since I started this thread-twice, in fact. It’s wasn’t a cure-all, but I believe it was a good starting point. I think you have to get rid of all the gunky stuff inside first, before you can fill yourself up with the good stuff.

I’m doing much better now.
