going to other churches

A/G= Assemblies of God.
I laugh at the thought of someone coming to Mass with me to try to convert me away from the church. I invite them to try and they WILL fail šŸ˜› , because I know my faith and I know theirs as well and they have nothing on us…no matter all their allegations and protestations. Fact is, I can probably out"witness" most of them in my sleep. It was my speciaility as an n-C and it freaks 'em out that a raggedy Catholic can meet their every move with one that counters and offers them a shot at becoming Catholic. I think it’s funny as all get out too. (They usually don’t… 😃 ) šŸ‘

Hey, your forum name is suiting šŸ‘

The ā€œother side of the fenceā€ is any religous group other than your own. To a Muslim, you are the other side of the fence. Sorry, but their is a fence and you both are on different sides. Welcome them in. If your faith is strong, why live in a box. Visiting a communist block country won’t make you a commie. I’ve always been baffled by the hatred between Muslims and Jews when they both worship the same God.
I wonder if the people who put as much energy into fighting each other would put as much into understanding each other if we’d have as many problems in the world.

Look Ruzz,
Don’t put me down because you don’t even know what ā€œChurch Militantā€ means, although the Catholics on here mostly do, especially those who have been around any length of time. Look it up, I’m not gonna waste time explaining it to ya.

My point is that I do understand you and your religion and I know what most of you are all about. I feel pretty much the same way about n-C religions as you do about ours, the difference being that I don’t go to n-C forums and spout rhetoric.

I don’t attend n-C churches because they have no message for me and most times it’s something contrary in some way to Catholic teaching. (Not the least of which is that most all of them preach Sola Scriptura. Since I disagree with that I find it almost useless to listen to their messages. In the end they offer an easy path to sakvation that I think disagrees with the Bible that they claim is their sole source of authority. I might find more in common with a Moslem or an Orthodox Jew since they at least make no effort to convert me and our discussions go from there based on mutual respect.

One thing that I apppreciate about them is that they don’t attempt to tell me what I supposedly believe as a Catholic whereas it seems that every prot/n-C poster in here thinks he knows more about what we believe than we do.and will not listen even when shown by one of us that they do not.

I make no effort to convert prots so long as they do not attempt to evangelize me or those that I love. Once they cross that line…I reserve the right to return their evangelism in kind and if they don’t like it…too bad. When a Catholic says he’s Catholic, that should be enough. It is to me when someone says they are whatever n-C religion they profess.

Michael,

I take it as a sign of the growth of CAF that there are more people who don’t know what this means. It’s not all preaching to the choir anymore. šŸ™‚ You may have to change your screen name to ā€œCHURCH MILITANT (look it up)ā€. šŸ™‚ I have long wanted to market a line of ā€œChurch Militantā€ apparal (T-shirts and stuff). Here in the ole Bible belt, it would sure be a conversation starter. 😃

So far I still have the same feelings Ruzz does. I have a hard time seeing the ā€œconflictā€.
In the Eucharist, we say Amen to all that the Catholic Church believes. Therefore, it would create an implication of an assent to a ā€˜communion’ with that church and their beliefs which does not, in Truth exist. In other words, we believe that we would be expressing a falsehood.

May the peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.

Sorry brother… I didn’t mean anything derogatory about it. Just that your tone seemed a bit agressive. I did not know there was another meaning. My applogies.
My point is that I do understand you and your religion and I know what most of you are all about.
Hey, wait a minute. You don’t know me or my religion. Isn’t this the very attitude that you detest in n-C religions? They tell YOU what YOU beleive.

Isn’t this the kind of Rhetoric that we all dislike? Words like ā€œI know what most of you are all aboutā€ make a lot of assumptions. If I was to say this to you, I would expect you to be offended.
I feel pretty much the same way about n-C religions as you do about ours, the difference being that I don’t go to n-C forums and spout rhetoric.
Again, you don’t know what I feel about you or your religion. What about my posts is rhetoric. I’m merely stating that a person can visit a Temple/Mosque or n-C church to visit and learn. Ok, you’ve been there and done that. But I’ve never been to Moscow, but I’d love to go and visit. That doesn’t make me un-American. Visiting a n-C church won’t make you any less Catholic in my opinion. That’s my point.

I think if people tried harder to understand each other, there would be a lot fewer debates and more respect. Personally, I’ve learned a HUGE amount from visiting forums and finding out directly from believers rather than relying on long lived stereotypes and websites with real rhetoric.

I would not suggest that ANYone visit a n-C church or Mosque or Temple regularly. MY only point was out of curiosity, I see nothing wrong with a field trip to learn about other religions.
I might find more in common with a Moslem or an Orthodox Jew since they at least make no effort to convert me and our discussions go from there based on mutual respect.
It sounds like you have had some poor experiences. I can understand your feelings.

I agree. This is a huge problem. I think a lot of it stems from what it ā€œlooksā€ like and not what it is. The world has many prejudices to overcome.
I make no effort to convert prots so long as they do not attempt to evangelize me or those that I love. Once they cross that line…I reserve the right to return their evangelism in kind and if they don’t like it…too bad.
I agree with this. However, many people feel the need follow the command to tell ā€œthe good newsā€. Catholics don’t seem to be very ā€œpushyā€ in their faith. I appreciate that. Much better than the extremes we find in many Islamic countries where you convert/pay tax or die.

Most of the folks on this forum are wonderful people. But I’m really getting tired of walking on eggshells when I post. If I make anything that is not a glorious praise of Rome, I can be sure that eventually someone will come down on me. I’ve been ā€œstalkedā€ to see what I’ll post next.

I come here to learn. Catholics complain that non-Catholics don’t undertstand them. That’s what I’m trying to do.
I post in the ā€œnon-catholic religionsā€ forum where I thought it was safe for a non-Catholic to post without harrassment.
Hey, I have NOTHING against the RCC. I have great respect for people who follow this religion. I was baptized and confirmed there. My entire family is there and I don’t evangelize them. However, if I see someone making an assumption about non-Cats or something that I don’t understand I will attempt to chime in.

Hey ruzz,

I must admit you are one of the more charitable protestants on this forum. I must admit, at first I didn’t think so. I believe you are referring to me as the stalker. :bigyikes: Don’t worry, I don’t stalk you anymore. :o Some of us get carried away, (especially me), because of the brutal anti-Catholic attacks that sometimes come our way. Please accept my apologies for my past uncharitable actions—and my future ones.šŸ™‚

ps–if you don’t mind me asking, what is your denomination?

Mickey… no problem.

And I have to tell everyone, I am embarrased at protestants who bash Catholics. It’s wrong, wrong, wrong to bash anyone, period! I have learned there is a great deal of difference in how it LOOKS like Catholics worship and how they REALLY worship. Trust me, I will defend Catholics to all my fellows. We may disagree but we can still respect each other. And if we are going to disagree, we should know what it is we disagree about. Not based on stereotypes.

I saw a post in another thread where a person went to a bible study and was insulted. That is appalling.

I really wish people would learn about each other’s faiths directly and not from their critics. That is why this topic interested me. So much energy is wasted on misinformation. If we’d just spend a little time getting to know each other, it would be a lot better.

I went to a benefit dinner the other night. There were Priests and Pastors from 40 different churches united to serve Jesus and care for people in the community. A Pastor opened and a Priest closed the dinner. It was wonderful to see people from 40 diferent churches working together for Christ.

At the risk of someone’s joke. I belong to a non-denomational church. Goes by a simple name ā€œChristian Centerā€. It’s not a fancy church, but most of the congregation is very active. We have many ministry programs with about 70% participation. Lot’s of stuff for the kids. Lot’s of opportunity for growth.

I miss my previous Pastor’s sermons. We moved 2 years ago. Partly because of one of his sermons where he highlighted the need to have your priorities right. Jesus’ priorities were people, NOT things. So we uprooted and sold everything and moved 2000 miles away to a simpler life where we could spend more time with our family.

Thanks Mickey, I can tell you have Jesus in your heart. I misjudged you at first too.

Pax vobiscum.
