I barely read the link to find out what a golden globe was for. Movies, I take it. And I guess there is some kind of strike going on.🤷

From what I’ve seen of the Hollywood industry, it would be the vast minority who are good people, not the other way around.
Really? Are you honestly prepared to say that about the millions of people YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW? Wow - that’s really very telling in so many ways. How very sad. 😦

I think you misread his post.I doubt if you are chasitising him for calling the vast majority of holywood people good

I am quite happy that it was cancelled…there is only one awards show that I would like to have seen…that would be the Emmys on the year that ArchBishop Fultan J. Sheen beat out Uncle Milty for the Emmy. I hear that for his acceptance speech he simply said…“I would like to thank my writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.”

Oh, and you do know them all. Riiiiiiiight.

I’m basing my opinion on observation. I see the filth and trash that comes out of Hollywood, so where does it come from? Who writes all that immorality? Who directs and produces all those sex scenes? Who acts in the violent and immoral films and tv shows? What businessmen finance all that fornication and murder? And look at the private lives of those we do see–how many of them hop bed partners more often than I change shoes? Imbibe in alcohol and drugs until they have breakdowns, or car crashes, or whatever? Show gross displays of wealth–dresses that cost tens of thousands, homes in the multi-millions, cars for hundreds of thousands, and give not a cent to charity? You can stand up for that all you want, but I won’t.

No. Watching those really overpaid people with their puffed up egos is tedious & rather boring to me. I don’t suffer the award shows well. Of course when these shows are on tv, even though I don’t watch them I am subjected to a condensed version the next day, because I thought I was watching the news:rolleyes: !

Where did I say that I stand up for that? I don’t champion any of the things you cited here. What I have issue with is blanket condemnation of the PEOPLE. Yes - the industry stinks as a whole. But there are a lot of people who have a livelihood that depends on that industry, and could very well be good upstanding citizens, and even Catholics!

So while I am right with you there saying that the industry needs an overhaul - I’m not about to condemn every single person in it and say they all need to loose their jobs because of the industry they happen to work in.

That same entertainment industry that makes the objectionable shows you speak of - is also the same industry that brought us The Passion of the Christ.

I wouldn’t agree about the overdressed part. The women need to cover up more.
Remindsof me what the British said about American soldiers when they were stationed in Britain preparing for D-Day. They said there are overpaid ,overfed ,oversexed and over here.

If Hollywood actresses start covering up nobody will watch the shows.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the Passion of the Christ done independently by Mel Gibson? If I remember right the industry had a big issue with him making the film and refused to support him.

As far as the award show goes… Meh.

No, it is not the ‘same industry’. As another poster pointed out, ALL the major studios turned down ‘The Passion’, and so Gibson put it out independently with his own money, and hired his own crew. The movie “Therese” was also put out independently. Those are the only 2 movies I’ve seen in a theater in about 5 years.

And my point still stands. If those supposedly good Catholic people that work there would refuse to make movies with all that smut in them, there would be no movies with smut in them. Obviously the people that make them support what they are producing, or they wouldn’t do it! There ARE good, moral people who make movies, but they are NOT part of the Hollywood industry. They do it on their own (see previous paragraph). Those are the people we should be supporting, not the purveyors of evil that have taken over mainstream Hollyweird.

There are a lot of people who work in the film industry who aren’t purveyors of evil, they’re just working folks making a living.

E.g., productions assistants, who do everything from holding umbrellas over the stars to picking up lunch for the crew to unlocking the dressing rooms at the start of filming to making sure that everyone has the production schedule.

E.g. techies who might set up light or sound stages, construct sets, design costumes, fix the robots when they don’t work, load everything onto the truck for a location shot, etc.

E.g., clerical people who make copies of the scripts, transcribe notes, arrange for the premier, write and distribute the paychecks to all the little people, etc.

E.g., housekeeping people who do just what their names says–clean up.

E.g., cooks, bartenders, and waitresses, who provide the meals, drinks, and relaxation to the people who are actually making the movie.

E.g., historians and other “experts” who are paid a “consulting fee” for making sure the movie is accurate. (A lot of movies and TV shows, regretably, dispense with this.)

E.g., “clean up writers,” who re-write the script to make sure it conforms with time limits and other constraints. Also readers who read through hundreds of scripts for agents each week looking for a good one.

E.g., accountants who balance the books and information systems people who keep the computers and servers up and running.

You get the idea. Most of these people never go near the “stars” and the only time they are mentioned is in the tiny tiny credits that roll after everyone has left the theater.
They are paid a decent salary (I know a sound tech who is paid $45,000/year), but hardly an ostentatious salary.

I suppose you could say that these people are supporting an immoral industry.

Aren’t we all? If you drive a car, aren’t you supporting companies like Ford who have pushed a homosexual agenda (and in years past, pushed anti-Semitism)? If you eat out, aren’t you supporting an industry that lies about caloric and fat content of foods and underpays waiters? If you buy certain brands of clothing from certain stores, aren’t you supporting child labor? If you send your kids to a tax-supported university, aren’t you supporting liberal, anti-religious teaching?

If you pay INCOME TAXES in the United States, you are helping to support immorality in many ways (e.g., through the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, etc.)

I work in a hospital that has an abortionist on the staff. Abortions are NOT done in my hospital, but this man is a member of the staff. Am I supporting abortion because I work in this hospital? (A lot of protesters seem to think so–we are picketed often.)

Many of the people who work in the film industry are Christian people who function as light in a very dark place.

My daughter is a production stage manager for a professional ballet company, and her quiet influence has often circumvented immortal stuff. She doesn’t get in the producer’s face, but she is often a calm voice of reason that makes the production staff stop and think before putting something in front of the public.

As I said in my earlier post, I really dislike the award shows as they are televised with all the stars and glamour. But what I would love to see is more of these “trench” people recognized for their hard work. Without them, there wouldn’t be movies for the stars to star in.

I have a daughter who is a professional stage manager/choreographer, so I do believe that people who are in the entertainment business need awards and commendations and recognition and honors.
I have a daughter who is a professional actress and I have the opposite view. I’d like to see all entertainment awards go away. Good work is its own reward.

Daddums 🙂

But what I would love to see is more of these “trench” people recognized for their hard work. Without them, there wouldn’t be movies for the stars to star in.
Exactly my point. If all of those ‘good’ people in Hollywood would not work in immoral movies, there would BE no immoral movies. Just like if no nurses or receptionists or janitors or whoever would work in abortion clinics, there would be no abortions. The ‘little people’ do make a difference! If they would all boycott the bad stuff, we would see a change. Case in point, the current writer’s strike. It’s not for a moral reason, but still, it’s brought Hollywood to it’s knees. Same principle could be applied to all the shows, all the time. If no one ran the camera or the lights, or put the set, or whatever, during a sex scene, that scene couldn’t happen.

And why are entertainers so special that they need all these awards? I don’t see teachers and nurses and firemen and priests getting awards for their work, which is MUCH more important.

Anyone care? Repulses me to see celebrities flaunting $$$$ clothes and jewelery. Not to mention those goodie bags with even more $$$$ stuffed inside. Why not donate to charity? Why no donate some of that hefty salary to charity?
I happen to have intimate knowledge of the entertainment industry. And while I don’t really care specifically about the Golden Globes, I care about the big picture and the implications.

What bothers me the most is the rest of the worlds attitude. Statistics would probably prove that most of us watch a lot of TV, go to a lot of movies and yes, surf the internet. whether you think so or not it’a all the same thing. Not the attitude I assume from most of you is that TV, movies and internet magically appears, like electricity or running water, but lest we forget that there arte thousands of people creating this content.

And where do you think all this ostentatious $$$$ is coming from?

From US. Yes, like it or not, if you watch TV, any TV, it doesnt ,atter if its MTV, FOX news or EWTN, you are supporting the Golden Globes. I’m reminded of my parents questioning the validity of my profession, while their TV went 24/7. Merely picking and choosing what you watch doesn’t remove you from responsibility about what content is on TV. TV is market driven, and like it or not most of us want the ridiculous behavior seen on these award shows, Millions of viewers demand this stuff, and many of you watch it out of morbid curiosity, that make you care in my book.

If you really didn’t care you wouldn’t be on this forum.
