Gonzaga Denies Knights of Columbus Student Group Because it’s Catholic

Are you sure of that? It is my understanding that most or all of formerly “Jesuit-controlled” universities are in the hands of a lay board, and the Jesuits could do nothing to stop their atrocities even if they desired so. Token numbers of Jesuits remain on the board, but they do not have a majority or any real veto power over policy decisions.

However, if having a female equivalent covers the sex inclusivity requirement (e.g., separate but equal sports groups), why not have the KoC sponsor a separate group for non-Catholics?
They can call it, the Squires of Columbus. 😃

Perhaps if the KoC would make the small compromise of renaming itself to “Lesbian, Gay, Transgendered, Queer, Bi-Curious, Intersexed and Oversexed Atheist Proletarian Commissars Who Actually Hate Columbus Because He Was A White Imperialist” then they would be admitted to more Catholic universities.

The 4th Degree attire could be changed to that of an NKVD camp guard with a hammer and sickle instead of a sword.

My wife’s childhood best friend is going to Marquette and they’ve managed to turn her from Greek Orthodox to a militant feminist gay rights activist.

If you send your son or daughter to a Jesuit school, you might as well be sending them straight to Hell.

Wow. I wonder what Pope Francis thinks about that.

I wonder if Student Government at Gonzaga is preventing the Church from saying masses on campus, since only Catholics are permitted to receive communion. Sounds patently discriminatory to me.

Hopefully “I’ve got to do something about this!”
Do you think Pope Francis is going to hell?

P.S: Marquette isn’t that bad. I suppose it just depends on the crowd. I’d be more concerned about a school like Gonzaga (hint) ;). 😦

No.

All I’m saying is that if you send your child to a Jesuit-run university in the USA, you are putting their soul in grave danger. Why would someone do that?

More and more in this secular world I see the quest for tolerance and equality become…wait for it… intolerance. What’s up with that? :bigyikes:

Just to be clear on this thread. While the exact reason why this student group wasn’t allowed it does need to be said that there is a Knights of Columbus Council.

barney.gonzaga.edu/~kofc/

Since this is now clear, and we still have a Jesuit Pope the moratorium on Jesuit jokes will continue during Pope Francis pontificate.

I attend another Jesuit institution (I’m not going to name it, but let’s say, for fun, they call themselves Chicago’s Jesuit university).

The Knights over here had the same obsticles. The university said that they are too discriminatory in who they allow as members. So we have to run the group out of the seminary next door.

How sad is it that a Catholic university, run by an order founded to defend the Catholic faith, not allow the largest group of Catholic men to become a registered organization.

We have a gay rights group that holds an annual drag show, but can’t have the Knights of Colombus.

What would St. Ignatius say??

The issues was registering the Council as a University recognized student org. It had been a recognized Student Club, but the registration as a Student Club lapsed. The Council was attempting to re-register.

That was when the denial happened.

Don’t give them any ideas.

Undoubtedly, the bright light that thought of this considers herself (or himself) to be quite tolerant and broad-minded, right? Right.

No.

I’d bet Jesuit universities are much better for a child than almost all other universities in the US. The chance is much higher to find a group of faithful Catholics than at a public school or even a nonreligious private school.

We must disagree on this it seems. I think that if someone goes to a pagan school then they will know that when paganism is taught to them, it is the opinion of pagans. If someone goes to a Catholic school and is taught paganism, they will become confused and think that Catholics may believe this way. So to me it seems more dangerous.

I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings. I see these places as very dangerous. People actually have souls, and those souls are often placed in jeopardy. This is not an abstract question. It’s a question of helping to keep people out of Hell.
