Good Grief It happened again in the Diocese of Rochester, NY

How much of a beating can people take? This is just terrible.

Iā€™m not sure why anything should be different than it was, except maybe victims are more likely to come forth than they used to.

What have we done, tangibly, to prevent this sort of thing? We may have improved on moving quicker when it is found, but as far as preventing it all Iā€™ve seen is that the laity who work with children watch a Virtus video with success tips for child molesters.

It is tragic, but I donā€™t find it surprising. It could have happened anywhere, and probably is.

We need heavy cleansing prayers for this diocese and Bishop.
Donā€™t kid yourself, this is not isolated to one diocese or even this continent. Child abuse continues to plague the RCC around the world.

You need (gasp) reform and a clergy that is held accountable for what it has done and what it has failed to do (sound familiar).

I confess to almighty God,and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault,in my thoughts and in my words,in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do;and I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

YES! Right on! Bingo! The clergy needs to practice what it preaches, walk the talk and any other clicheā€™ that describes doing the right thing. Then and only then will our children be safe in the Church.

Nohome,

I believe that prayer was meant for all of us. Priests come from homes. Are they learning this prayer and this kind of life at home? Priests are formed in seminaries. Is the seminary a place of prayer or as some of them have been exposed to be a breeding ground for sodomy? Priests need the prayers of all the saints. Are you and I praying and encouraging our priests so that they remain on the path to holiness and remain free from these and other types of sin?

You hit the nail about clergy being accountable. I am not ignorant to the fact that this abomination is present in many places all over the world. It is magnified by a liberal media when a case involves a Catholic Priest.

This diocese of Rochester needs prayers for a stronger, more orthodox Bishop.

Again, you make this statement.

This has nothing to do with this. First, the current bishop has only been in Rochester since 1979. I do not think any of these priests were ordained by him and he did remove them.

Please if you have any evidence of wrong doing give it, otherwise give Bishop Clark his office is due.

The heterodoxy and liturgical abuses are well known under his authority. It is not disrespectful to ask for prayers for the bishop to be stronger or for him to reform many areas.

Yes, and I will make this plea for prayers for our diocese repeatedly. We need many prayers. I have not said any thing disrespectful. Just a blanket ( heavey duty wool blanket) statement for prayers.
Thanks

Yes liturgical abuses are a problem, but as I have said else where, it seems that things are getting better in places here and the bishop has become a bit more ā€œorthodoxā€ since my entry into the Church formally.

I believe it is disrespectful to say he is heterodox in any way. He is a Bishop of the Catholic Church, you may not like him, I may not like him, but he deserves our respect. Unless you can put up evidence of anything heterodox and show that you have followed it up with the proper channels, just throwing out a claim that he is such is disrespectful to the Church.

It gets to be http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/images/smilies/horse.gif when everytime Rochester, NY, is mentioned you make this plea.

I would say that your insinuation that he is not orthodox is disrespectful to the Church. He has been called to be a Bishop. Who are we to say otherwise?

We may not like some of what he does or says, but he is bishop, your bishop. I am happy that he is not my bishop, but I have other issues with my bishop but I do not run around airing this.

He does not teach heresy, you may not like it, I may not like it, but that does not mean he is not orthodox.

It is exactly this type of hands off, give a wide buffer and pedestal for any sort of credible critque of Church leadership, that has resulted in the multitude of scandal to hit the Church. I would hope that the faithful would have learned their lesson by now. The Church heirarchy needs to be accountible to the flock that they serve. Yes, through proper channels. Yes, in a respectful manner. How else is a concerned laity to express concerns unless labelling (heterodox, dissenting, weak leadership) the behavior of concern? It does no one any service to quelch the laity voice of concern and demand for the religious to behave as religious.

ā€œWho is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops like bishops and your religious act like religious.ā€ ā€“ Abp. Fulton J. Sheen before the Knights of Columbus in June 1972.

OH NO! Iā€™ve asked for prayers! ( gasp) Blasted Jrabs asked for prayers for her diocese again.

Please take the time to reread my posts as you have misquoted them. I did not say he was unorthodox or that he teaches heresy. Please! Those are your words, not mine.

I also have not said a disrespectful thing about Bishop Clark. I have not run around and aired anything other than asking for prayers.

Every priest or member of the clergy needs our constant prayers. My plea for prayers for our diocese will continue - only good can come of unceasing prayers.

I respect his office. That does not mean that all that goes on is correct because Rome has not issued an edict. The diocese is well known throughout the country as ā€œliberalā€ and that title is well deserved. We can all copy and paste all types of things about this issue and I have before. Why argue?

BTW, did my post say the bishop was heterodox? I can argue he is, but that is not what my post said.

Clericalism is alive and well. It amazes me that some think the faithful, that are well informed, cannot call a spade a spade.

Is one only an authentic bank robber if one is convicted by a court of law even if 1000 folks saw him rob a bank? Is one only an adulterer if they are convicted by a judge?
