sigh
We laugh about this, cause it is true. But the sad state of affairs is, 85% of the Protestants I talk with wouldn’t become Catholic if there was a verse that said-
Matthew 87:12 “And the Lord Jesus Christ declared unto them, the Catholic Church is my one true Church, and no matter how many times Satan tries to destory it by twisting my Scriptures, it shall always be my One, Holy, Apostolic Church.”
Just like a girl I used to date. I showed her passage after passage that she just couldn’t explain. I showed her how the church was visible. And I asked “So which church is it?”…she replied “NOT that Catholic church.”
“Why not?”
“Because its wrong.”
The sad part about this is that this stigma is ingrained into a lot of Protestants. If they know it or not. I was speaking with one girl who was shocked when I disproved OSAS to her. It was kind of one of those “How did I just read over that?” moments. She started researching the Catholic faith after that, but I doubt she will ever become Catholic. Not if she wants to keep her family and friends. She went to church the next Sunday and talked about OSAS, taking the Catholic side, and she said she was assulted from every corner.
When I had my run through Protestant land, I found that it was accepting just so long as you agreed with thier doctrine. Otherwise, it was just bitter, angry and judgemental.
Anyways, I didn’t mean to get all serious. Your post did make me laugh out loud quite a few times, but it just upsets me to think about how divided Christianity is.
And it brings up my question I have never been able to get answered by a Protestant. Most Catholics with a Protestant friend have no problem going to the Protestant service, but then when they are asked to come to Mass, they give you this look like you just asked them to sell thier soul. Traditions run deep, and the man made traditions of the Protestant church run just as deep as our history. After all, that part of Christianty was formed our of distrust and loathing of the Catholic Church, why would that change 500 years later?
AHHH. I am ranting! Shut me up. Excellent post.
