Good movies and shows on Netflix?

Trying to find some good stuff on Netflix that are under the radar, but all I mostly find are the janky stuff. Anyone have suggestions? All I’m doing with Netflix is watching Walking Dead :\

Person of interest is very good - no sex scenes at all, unbelievable. Although Netflix shows are very well made, several are riddled with absolutely pointless sex scenes!

It stars Jim Cavaziel, and although violent at parts, has a moral tone throughout.

Jim Cavaziel played Christ in the Passion of the Christ, and is a very staunch Catholic. I thought it was excellent, it took a few episodes to get hooked.

‘The Good Wife’ is also superb - it’s a legal drama. Again it’s pretty good, from a ‘clean show’ viewpoint.

All of the Documentaries.

Series that were huge hits back when.
We like to watch all the old detective series, Frazier, etc.
Once you begin watching some more diverse things, it will recommend other similar programming.
 
I stumbled on Dr Who and, being a total nerd, fell in loe with it 😃

My mom introduced me to “Poirot.” Awesome!

My son and I love the cooking shows of every type. We sometimes watch with paper and pencil in hand to take notes and try the recipes.

As Clare says, once you start watching certain types of shows, they’ll start recommending similar shows.
 
I also forgot to mention the excellent period pieces and series produced by the BBC.
Also Nat Geo Documentaries, and TED Talks…lots of interesting stuff.

Talking about period pieces from the BBC, can you recommend some?

Tried to start watching, and the pilot is riddled with bedroom scenes. Not sure why Jim acted in this one. 🤷

There is a little bit of innuendo in one or two scenes in the series and in the first episode it shows Jim with his gf and how ‘close’ they were in ‘secular-land’, before splitting. But there is NO nudity, just the fact two people were lying in bed.

It is one thing that I really noticed about the show, the complete lack of gratuitous sex, and not having to use the FF button every so often. 🙂

2/10 Season 1 short scene in season 1, episodes 1 and 21 of affection between Reese and his girlfriend in bed, upper male nudity and the girlfriend is depicted in underwear (upper). Same scene is shown twice in episode 1 and once at the beginning of episode 21. In both cases is quite short and not especially explicit.

Also episode 4, although doesn’t depict any sexual activity, is about .

Season three, episode one contains a club scene with women wearing bras.

Season three, episode two has a clip of two people having sex. It’s spliced in with the video of his “happy” marriage. It’s blurred, but clear what they’re doing.

LONGMIRE…one of the best series ever…you can watch all episodes of the latest season…you won’t be able to turn the TV off it’s that good:)
 
Although not exactly ‘under the radar’, Netflix has ALL the Star Trek series. I’ve been working my way through the original series, recently started Season 2 with the classic episode “Amok Time”. Granted that particular episode has a mature theme – Vulcan mating rituals – but it’s done in a non-gratuitous way.

N.B. The original series on Netflix has the “remastered” visual effects that were done a few years ago … if you want the unaltered versions you’ll need to pick them up on disc somewhere. I believe the available Blu-ray set has both versions.

I’ve been enjoying ‘The Man in the High Castle’ which is based on the Phillip K. Dick alternate history novel. Although it’s very dark, so is the source material it’s based on. And although its fairly slow, the novel is even more so.
 
I recommend Broadchurch, it’s an English show about a murder of a boy in a small town.
There are no gratuitous sex scenes or violence in the first season. The second season IMO is not as good as the first and has more dicey stuff but nothing over the top. The show even has a vicar and he is presented very fairly I must say.
You can easily watch the first season alone and be satisfied btw.

Another one I recommend is Doc Martin, I love this show and it’s very clean overall. It’s about a hotshot doctor that through circumstances has to go and practice in a tiny English town.

If you like sci fi I recommend Dark Matter. It’s about a group of people that wake up from stasis on a spaceship and have no idea who they are or what they are doing there. Now this show has a bit more sexy time than the others but again it’s not essential to the show and it’s limited. This show does have its share of violence though but not as bad as The Walking Dead or other shows like that

You can trust my selections since I don’t watch any American tv at all except for news channels, history channel and documentaries lol. So, my tolerance for inappropriate material is minimal.

If you want to be adventurous I could talk to you about kdramas which are all clean and pure and lovely but don’t know if you’d be interested in reading subtitles. There are quite a bit of them now on netflix and I could recommend a few :D:D

Kdramas and K-variety make up over 80% of what I watch

If you’re a fan of 70s shows, they have Magnum P.I. and the Rockford Files. They have a fair number of the police procedural genre such as NCIS, CSI:NY and Miami, and Criminal Minds. They have the first 5 seasons of Blue Bloods. They also have a decent number of BBC shows worth watching. If you like sitcoms, they have the complete Frasier, Cheers, and Friends series.

I started off with Person of Interest, it’s great, been running nonstop, up to the middle of season 2. Though I can help thinking all my phones are bugged now ^^

I actually have watched a good amount of kdramas. One of my favorites is City Hunter :cool:

the kdramas haven’t been rotated much on Netflix though :\
 
Granite Flats is a very Catholic-friendly period drama about a small western town in the 1960s. I’m only about 3-4 episodes in, but I love it. It’s funny and interesting. Short synopsis: in a time dominated by the fear of Communists, strange things happen around town. Local kids set off on an adventure to investigate.

It’s on Netflix streaming. It’s produced by BYU TV and has the moral values that you’d expect from that.
 
The returned… It’s French and surpasses the storytelling of Hollywood.

City hunter is the first kdrama I ever watched so it holds a special place in my heart.
Yes a lot of kdramas have been taken off Netflix. There’s a wider selection in Hulu. You can also try Dramafever and Viki. These are free if you have patience for ads and you can also get a subscription if you prefer. I use roku or chromecast and see them on my big screen. I really recommend Kill Me Heal Me, it was amazing 🙂
