Please. All candidates face tremendous opposition. The front runners get more attention because they are the front runner. Sanders is fighting to the end, just like Cruz. Its the nature of the business. I actually doubt that the media would have been on Trump about a rumored sex scandal. Why would they when he already has a number of real, admitted sex scandals? More importantly, if Trump can’t handle this, how is he going to be president?
Right. And that’s IF he makes it to the presidency. There’s still plenty of time for people like me to decide I can’t check a box next to his name even IF I hold my nose…and I haven’t missed an election, midterm even, since I was eligible to vote. He could very well be another Romney, forcing people to stay home or vote D.

Do you ever wonder if a voter can go to another party because the candidate they preferred did not get the nomination has any core values? The two parties are so different.

I know I personally won’t, but there are quite a few in my family and circle of friends that say they might do so. They hold that Hillary would be a “safer” choice. These people do have values and quite frankly express a lot of angst about the whole thing, but they believe Hillary only the more honest of the two. 😦

As an above average voting American citizen (meaning that I have always voted in the Presidential elections and most of the Primaries) this go round has been an eye opener.
The condition of our country, and the candidates that have emerged, make for bad dreams.

We have only ourselves to blame for the last two Presidential elections where we were warned that the elected one planned to fundamentally change America. Poosh, Posh, that can’t be what he meant - no way! Way!!!

Now we have to call in for major repairs! IMO our only hope is a Republican and the best Republican is Donald Trump. But, the Republican Party is doing its most to keep their own from being the candidate. This teaches us volumes!

Who could have figured this one in advance? He will need to total the winning number by an over large win on the 1st Convention ballot or they will hold a 2nd ballot with a different number needed and if that doesn’t satisfy then a 3rd ballot. Now it doesn’t matter if on the 1st Ballot the largest amount of votes was shy of 1 or 2. They move along and if the next in line or the next doesn’t take the ballot - ONE will be appointed. ONE of WHOM you ask? Doesn’t have to be one of the candidates that racked up any votes - they can come up with someone right out of the box! This is what is called the “contested” or “brokered” convention. How do you like the game so far? Well, there is more!

The “delegates” at the convention are awarded “ballot votes” in an amount determined by the “rules committee” - they possess these votes as in “own”, so they can choose to credit them to whatever candidate they prefer. Actually, this now becomes a Primary election held by varied candidates that are only in need of votes by the “delegates” at the convention. You ask, “Why did I feel I should and wanted to perform my civic duty to vote?” Well, one answer I received was “Its always been this way”. 🤷

To each his own, but to say Hillary is honest is quite a stretch. I don’t think you understood what I was saying. When we elect a president, we elect his/her party. Does the platform of the party you are choosing line up with what you think is right, ergo, values.

No, it’s outdated. The EC was put into play back when they had to go into D.C. on horseback so it was the only way to determine a POTUS. We live in a modern and electronic world now so it’s unnecessary.
Actually, Electors chosen on Election Day meet in their respective state capitals (only electors for the District of Columbia meet within the District) on the Monday after the second Wednesday in December, at which time they cast their electoral votes on separate ballots for president and vice president.

This usual talking point of of eliminating the EC leading to candidates not focusing on little states, Well, that’s what they do anyway.
It would be way worse if the President were elected by popular vote.

The popular vote for president in 2012 was 126,849,296 votes cast (per Wikipedia)… so “50%+1” would have been just 63,424,648 votes.

There are 4,475,157 registered voters in NYC (per the NY Stage Board of Elections).

The population of Los Angeles County is 9,787,747, of whom 49.7% are registered to vote (per Wikipedia). So, 4,864,510 registered voters.

There are more than 1.42 million registered voters in Chicago, a million in Houston, 988,000 in Philadelphia, 782,000 in Phoenix, 610,000 in San Antonio, 602,000 in San Diego, 583,000 in Dallas, and 419,100 in San Jose, CA.

Granted, not all voters in these top-ten cities vote the same way (or vote at all, for that matter)… but the top ten cities do account for nearly 15,800,000 registered voters – or almost a quarter of the number of votes it would have required to re-elect Obama in 2012.

Now let’s look at metropolitan areas. In 2000, there were only 9 metropolitan areas with populations of 5 million or more (infoplease.com/ipa/A0884087.html) for a total of just over 84,000,000 people. Assuming only half are registered to vote, that’s 42,000,000 voters in just 9 metro areas. If you think little states are ignored now just wait and see how many states/cities would be ignored if the president were to be elected by popular vote.

No, thank you, says I!

RNC has received over 1 million post cards from registered voters saying they will only vote trump–do not steal the election.

The post card image is on the link.
And, honestly, they’ve probably also received just as many cards (if not more) saying that the people would never vote Trump.

Honestly, the RNC right now is stuck. Many of the Trump voters would only vote for Trump, and many of the non-Trump voters would vote for just about anyone BUT Trump. Trump has done Hillary’s job. He’s made it now so that it probably won’t even matter who the GOP nominee is - about half of the party will be up in arms in protest.

As many as what though? Trump tweeted one million, implying that a million different people sent cards in – not that I believe things just because Trump says them.

Maybe, but you’ve got to hold out hope.

Also, time is a factor. Already now, with more time between primaries, Republicans have become more reflective than during March Madness. Hopefully in time many will start to say “Boy, why is the Republican party getting beaten up so much this year?”

You know, I almost always agree with you, but often feel like we talk past each other. I completely understood what you meant, and that, to me, is what makes it very scary. People of conviction that I personally know think Hillary. Is. More. Honest. Boggles the mind, I grant. It’s not that they think she’s honest, just less dishonest. And they are so afraid of what Mr Trump has done to the GOP that they really are looking hard at all options.

GOP hand caught in the cookie jar? Do they really expect trump supporters to stick with them after tricks like this? I hope this backfires.

Going along with this story:

thegatewaypundit.com/2016/04/disgusting-colorado-trump-delegate-scratched-list-gop-convention-cruzers-take-delegates/

The Cruz camp and GOP establishment leaders strong-armed their way to a sweep by banning Trump delegates and omitting them from the ballots… and listing Cruz delegates TWICE!

If that is true, it’s beyond despicable.
