From my understanding we can believe that Gensis is metophorical and that evolution is true.

Can we believe that the gospels are metophorical and that Jesus isn’t really an historical figure?

Also same question regarding Moses Abraham etc.

I was watching Gospel According to Carrier. It made me think.

No.
Jesus Christ is a historical figure.
Eyewitness accounts.
People saw Him, spoke to Him, He rose from the dead.
Far different than knowing for sure that the world was created in 7 days.
What’s 7 days in the life of God? Like 7 million years? Or 7 24 hour periods.
Thousands saw and listened to Christ. He’s real.

You’d have to watch the video. It’s on YouTube. I don’t want to post a link. I’m not trying to lead people astray.

But basically he says that the gospels are parables. Inside are parables wrappped in parables and the whole gospel is one big parable.

So it’s not to be taken literally but spiritually.

He even mentioned a catholic priest who wrote a book about it.

No, there’s no basis for this. No one from Jesus’ own time doubted His existence. They may have doubted His humanity (or divinity), but never once doubted that He existed in some way.

“The devil’s greatest trick was to convince us that he does not exist”
  • French poet and essayist Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867)
Mission accomplished. Now, to convince us that Christ does not exist…

Very wise quote to share and I am still perplexed by it as my love and faith in Jesus Christ and Saint Michael the Archangel’s protection has surpassed such fear.

I often wonder if that is unwise…

No the Book of Genesis, the Gospels, and the whole Bible is an historical fact for us, as they where more than 500 witnesses,of Jesus resurrection.thousands have have seen Him, right from Birth till Death,is recorded in the Bible as well in the Tradition of the Church historically.Jesus healed and performed thousands of miracles where witnessed by people of many nationalities.

as in 1 Corinthians 15:3 For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, 4 and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

**Since faith is given to us in earthen pots ,which means it is fragile, you have to be careful not to lose your faith, but we should rely on Jesus and entrust everything in his hands.God says in,Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.and in Wisdom 1:3 For perverse thoughts separate people from God, and when his power is tested, it exposes the foolish;also in Wisdom 1:5 For a holy and disciplined spirit will flee from deceit, and will leave foolish thoughts behind, and will be ashamed at the approach of unrighteousness.

Dr Richard Cevantis Carrier is an American historian, atheist activist, who has lost his faith, and is an as Apostate and anti-Christ. please don’t,view or read any site, blogs, articles videos, etc and lose you faint In the True Catholic Church and the only Name given on earth for salvation as in. Acts 4:11 This Jesus is‘the stone that was rejected by you, the builders; it has become the cornerstone.’12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.”.He is only discrediting Jesus as an Human and God ,which means he is a anti-Christ in _1 John 2:18 Children, it is the last hour! As you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many anti-Christs have come. From this we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But by going out they made it plain that none of them belongs to us. 20 But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and all of you have knowledge. 21 I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and you know that no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; everyone who confesses the Son has the Father also. 24 Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he has promised us, eternal life_.God Bless

The process of evolution, or metaphorical language, does not mean that the Book of Genesis is not true. We are all descended from two very real first parents. Moses, Abraham, and Jesus were real men who walked this earth. The Bible is God’s revelation to us.

Carrier argues his case forcefully and sometimes unpleasantly. His debates with Bart Ehrman, an agnostic biblical scholar who does believe in the historical Jesus are very interesting. Ehrman has a great blog you can join for $25 a year (for charity). Anyway, his (Ehrman’s) basic point is that you have to look at each book of the NT (or at least those by the same author) as individual books and that squishing them all together and reading one in the light of the others is not a historians way of looking at evidence. So you need explanations, or at least to think about, things like the first three Gospels never mentioning that Jesus was God, Paul’s apparent ignorance of the Gospel stories about Jesus, the fact that several of Paul’s books weren’t written by him etc. Carrier’s explanation for many of these things are that, probably, the stories about a supernatural Jesus developed first and that later the idea of a flesh-and-blood Jesus arose and that if the was a historical Jesus he was nothing like the biblical Jesus and was just a person who was crucified by the Romans to whom the supernatural tales were attached. Ehrman says we can no som things about Jesus with historical certitude. Like any science historical research is not absolute but Ehrman is convinced Jesus existed, was born in Nazareth, preached, disturbed the temple and was crucified as a threat to Rome.

Evolution is true only if it acknowledges God as the prime effector. Godless, atheistic evolution reduces man to a disposable animal. Example? My cousin saw the human waves attacking in the Korean war. Cannon fodder. Exactly the same with Soviet soldiers in the wars against Finland. Expendable human capital.

Therefore, godless evolution - a pipe dream - should be; must be rejected, as it is based on hatred not love.

Why expend irreplaceable time on two non-believers and their opposing and inane rants? The blind attempting to lead the blind. They may be sober, but I have observed more cognition exercised between two drunks outside of a bar.

Virtually every historian agrees that, based on the non-Biblical historical evidence,
  • Jesus was a real person who existed
  • He was baptized by John the Baptist
  • He was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
I am continuously baffled by those who keep insisting that Jesus was somehow a fictional character like the Easter Bunny, when historians who are not even believers themselves generally accept the historical, non-Biblical evidence for the matters listed above.

I can only conclude that those who insist that Jesus was fictional are trying to get attention and make money off having an unsupported theory, probably because they know that many people would dearly love to wish Jesus out of existence and thus will buy their stuff like hot cakes.

Yeah because who needs scholars and science when you have YouTube videos to go on. Try wikipedia if you prefer: “In modern scholarship, the Christ myth theory is a fringe theory and finds virtually no support from scholars”: Christ myth theory - Wikipedia

There’s a reason it’s on YouTube - nobody will publish it in a serious journal.
