Gospel Mt 7:15-20

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing,
but underneath are ravenous wolves.
By their fruits you will know them.
Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Just so, every good tree bears good fruit,
and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit,
nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down
and thrown into the fire.
So by their fruits you will know them.”

Observe, a prophet in Scripture means not only one who foretells future events, but many other persons, such as holy and religious men, singers, workers of miracles, and here as in many other places, a doctor or teacher. For the prophets were teachers, who made known the way of life, and of understanding things which were not plain to others, whether he foretold future events or not. For in Hebrew a prophet is called a seer, because he sees secret and hidden things, especially such things as future events. False prophets therefore are false teachers, whether they be heretics, or Gentiles and Pagans.

Now the sheep’s clothing which these wolves put on are to veil their errors and heresies, first under the plea of liberty of conscience; 2. By quoting texts of Scripture that serve to favour their heresies; 3. The pretext of reforming the morals of the Church, especially those of the clergy and ecclesiastics; 4. By the simulation of meekness, simplicity, and piety; 5. By soft speeches, and a garrulous eloquence by which they cover their wolfish ferocity.

Fr. William Most says

False prophets were already known in the history of Israel, e.g., Zedecias and a whole band of prophets in 1 Kings 22:5-12. Also in Jeremiah 28:1-17. St. Paul in Acts 20:17-31 spoke to the presbyters of Ephesus (called episcopoi in 20:28 in 28-31 foretold false prophets would come even from those to whom he was speaking. Here in Matthew most likely Jesus speaks of the Pharisees, whom elsewhere he called “whitewashed sepulchers” and “blind guides,” who put forth their own traditions even to the point of contradicting the law of God (Mk 7:9). In line with this the Mishna, Sanhedrin 10. 4 (11. 3?) said:" the decisions of the scribes are more obligatory than the Torah."

False prophets bring division rather than unity. He who divides is a false prophet, and is not docile to the Holy Spirit. If those who disagree with the Church humble themselves and obey, they produce unity. Those who obey their egos and separate produce division, not being lead by the Holy Spirit, but a passing spirit which cannot be of God.

…here’s God’s definition of His Prophet and false prophets:

17 Then Yahweh said to me, 18 “What they have said is well said. From their own brothers I shall raise up a prophet like yourself; 19 I shall put my words into his mouth and he will tell them everything I command him. Anyone who refuses to listen to my words, spoken by him in my name, will have to render an account to me. 20 But the prophet who presumes to say something in my name which I have not commanded him to say, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die.” (Deuteronomy 18:17-20)

Clearly, every person that claims to be a prophet sent by God and stands against Jesus–that person is a false prophet… the fruits yield must be fully alligned with Christ… just as a crude example: those who form communities built on human powers (guns, money, immoral acts) are clear example of false prophets; but there are thousands of others that are much more subtle–these are the ones that do lead people astray and they do not even realize it (or want to question it); what is really bad is that these false prophets do not even have to be officially recognized… they could be the person in Bible studies or a government official (say, pres oba or one of his “Catholic” minions); Christ, wisely, mentions very distinct signs by which they can be known!

Turn on your t.v. and you can find them. Think about it all the doctrines out there such as the prosperity doctrine basically relating our Lord to pretty much an a t m machine. Or the ones that claim you have to speak in tounges to be saved man i could go on and on. It makes me sick.

…that’s why Jesus warned us that those times would come… that we should not follow and that the elect would not be deceived! (St. Matthew 24:23-26)
