I love Giant Eagle and their perk points or whatever. Their gasoline was priced the lowest when I used to go to Pittsburgh all the time.

Okay, but I’ll be at my brother’s. Watch for the dogs, there are four of them, watch for the gators too, they don’t listen to me.

Spatchcocked the turkey. First time we tried this (removed backbone and splayed open). Beginning to look pretty good.

Supposed to reduce it to about 1 1/2 to two hours for medium size bird. Saving the backbone to make soup. Don’t know how that will turn out, but sounds good.

I tried twice to have a piece of sweet potato pie. My young grandson ate most of both pieces. I did get to eat apple pie though.šŸ˜‹

I made Brussels sprouts with bacon.

My sister is gluten free, so she transformed my mom’s stuffing recipe into a risotto, by adding rice, taking away the bread.

This puppy has had a long day and is nearly ready to curl up for the night. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones. May God Bless you all. Remember that giving thanks is not a once per year chore. Give thanks each day for great things, little things, or just because, each and every day of the year. Give thanks at the beginning of every prayer. Thank our Lord ALWAYS!

Oh my goodness…IM SO STUFFED!

We finished eating about 2 hours ago and I’ve not had dessert yet…I have no room! My dinner was delicious…if I do say so myself and everyone else seemed to be quite pleased by the fact they took seconds and thirds and made many num num sounds.šŸ˜‚

I finally loaded the Disney channel and we watched the first episode of The Mandelorian. I’m a Star Wars fan anyway and I loved it so far. One episode in…with three more released so far. My 16 yo granddaughter was squealing when she saw that Hannah Montana was listed so I have something to tempt her to visit more often šŸ˜‹. I can’t wait to dig into some of the old Disney movies…they even have The Professor Wore Tennis Shoes! Squeal!

How about ya’all? A little gluttony leaving you in tryptophan comas? How was your pecan pies? Did you unbutton your pants to finish the meal? šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

We don’t pray in our family, heathens that we are but before we sit down to eat, each of us has to state what they were the most thankful for in the past year. It takes quite a while to do as we reminisce each episode or story…often with laughter and some with tears. It’s been a family tradition that we started about 12 years ago and we really enjoy doing it.

Morning-after review…

As mentioned above, we have all the traditional dishes, prepared with my mother’s recipes, and several non-traditional dishes also…
My brother and sister-in-law drove three hours to be there…they brought [oxymoron alert!!] two pounds of jumbo shrimp on ice, and cocktail sauce…[most of the ice had already melted, so most of the shrimp were not eaten…she said they were perfectly good, and they’d take them home and eat them later…I hope she was kidding…
Other non-traditional dishes included my wife Barb’s roasted root vegetables [outstanding, but the youngsters were afraid to try them…], my sister’s seasoned grilled mushrooms, and my niece’s lemon cake with vanilla frosting, served with fresh strawberries [she’s become a really good baker].
It was a fine Thanksgiving - four of the six of us siblings together…many stories were told, and more memories were made.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving as well!!

Yeah, the trip home with that shrimp? 😳 Even more of a risk than when it arrived… but glad the rest of it was more than edible! šŸ™‚

As I’m sure many are, we’ll be eating leftovers for a couple of days. I love Thanksgiving leftovers. I think because we are truly relaxed and away from the chaos of preparing a meal and having visitors.

That is one of the advantages of cooking in quantity. Days of just reheating, not actual cooking! 😊

I’ve met people who refuse to eat leftovers…I hope they’re able to make an exception for Thanksgiving. There’s just the two of us here, and we plan meals so there will be plenty of leftovers…it just seems to make sense…
