What is most horrifying is how desensitized people have gotten to abortion. Most people don’t even view babies as human beings if they are in the womb anymore.

When I teach development to my college kids I ALWAYS mention that the baby’s heart starts beating around 4 weeks of development.

I then ask them when do most mothers usually find out they are pregnant? You should see the surprised looks on their faces. I don’t even have to mention abortion or anything b/c I’m not really allowed to, but you can see that people have been taught to think that you aren’t human until you are born. Just that simple message of a baby having a beating heart at 4 weeks and most people don’t even know they are pregnant till around then is very powerful!

I can understand the feeling that we need to shock these people back into reality but I can also see how showing pictures of aborted babies is detrimental to the cause. Simple messages will maybe be more affective. Showing them that babies in the womb ARE HUMAN!!

I am for graphic abortion pictures outside of the abortion clinics. They represent the truth that the abortion clinics try so desperately to hide. I don’t see anything wrong with them at all. If you turn on the TV, you see constant graphic blood, guts and gore. At least ours is the truth. Those women entering the abortuaries should be well informed and made aware of the magnitude of their decision to abort. I consider it NOT placing my light under a bushel!
Just the wrong venue. Better in a film to teenagers, so they can see what the procedure entails. But since embryos in the early stages simply do not look like babies, the argument can be made that they are just potentially human beings because an ape fetus looks much the same.

My experience is that even trained nurses are ignorant of the details of human development. Plus they don’t FEEL the power of language. For instance, the term “potential” that was used in Blackmun’s opinion. Most people connote a vague POSSIBILITY, maybe PROBABILITY. But in terms of human development, it is more like
the POWER contained in a boulder as it begins its descent from a cliff. Unless somehow stopped, it inevitably gains speed as it descends to the bottom where it ends with its full force which is then transmitted through the ground it hands on until it is finally spent. The analogy fails, only, because the boulder has visible mass. But then result is inevitable. All motion is contained in that potential. In organic terms, it is like the mustard seed, that tiny
things that results in a substantial tree, provided it is not killed by drought or disease or other accidents. I recall a school nurse moved by a birth to call it a “miracle.” If we can somehow observe it frame by frame so to speak, it does produce in us a sense of awe.

This is slightly off topic, but, Missy Smith is running for the House of Reps this November and she has made 2 political ads for her campain. Both of them are filled with pictures of aborted babies. I think she hopes to start airing her ads on TV in the next week or so. You can see the ad’s on her web site. Get ready for a fire storm in response because I’m sure the media elite are going to have an all out attack. God bless,

John

The crucifix is not an apt comparison to images of aborted children and the holocaust. The image of Jesus on the cross is prettied up above and beyond anything resembling the truth of that image. You want to know what Jesus really looked like on that cross? Watch “The Passion.”

The crucifix is cleaned up, sanitized, and in many cases, color removed by not painting the medium it is carved out of. Where are the stripes? Where is the blood? Where is the dislocated joints? You wouldn’t sit a 6 year old down to watch the passion, just as you wouldn’t show your 6 year old the picture of an aborted child, and would likely be infuriated at anyone who did when you have a child scared to death and won’t sleep for fear.

for it, i think if women know what they are going to do with the life growing inside them they may think twice about scrambling the kid
As much as I understand the feeling of horror and injustice that you (and I) have, (especially when I see a rosary in the car), we must always have compassion in our heart. I will repeat it again and again, these women are not a Hillary Clinton or a Cecile Richards (president of Planned Parenthood) or a Leroy Carhart (3rd trimester abortion doc). They are not animated by a political agenda nor by the money they are going to make. They are not cold blood murderers. They are scared, they feel trapped; some were raped, they have violent boyfriends or parents, they are coerced, they are lied to… They deserve our compassion and at least the benefit of the doubt.

It is hard to get over the sin to love the sinner but if Jesus can, why can’t we?

Excellent post. I try to shower each woman with love and prayer as she passes me (we have almost no access since Planned Parenthood built their mega-death center - the largest in the Western Hemisphere). One blessing is that at least the death-scorts cannot take away the literature that does get passed out, because it’s in the clients CARS instead of their hands. There is always a blessing, even in the most difficult situation.

It is easy to displace the guilt and horror they feel about doing what they are going to do onto people who are there with real, but sickening images. We risk turning that guilt into anger and a commitment to abortions at any cost. I am convinced that some of the volunteers we see at Planned Parenthood have had abortions themselves and they are working out their guilt and shame by turning it into anger and hatred at us, the “protesters.” This is a very common psychological defense mechanism. It is impossible to do this when all you see are people quietly praying, and if they say anything to you, they call you “Ma’am” and ask if you’d like some information about keeping their baby.

that is the practical, on the ground experience. I do maintain that the images are helpful on the internet, and out on college campuses where debate about society is perfectly appropriate.

Hi all,

Without showing the graphic pictures it is too easy for pro-choicers to rationalize that they are aborting tissue, a glob, and so on. As Father Pavone of Priests for Life says, abortion will not end until everyone sees the results of abortion.

As many others have stated in this thread, yes, there is a place for the pictures, but it is NOT at the abortion clinic. I laid down the reasons and I have the street experience with both approaches, and I can tell you that people going in for an abortion have already steeled their hearts for that experience and only harden them further if they see the gory photos. It plays straight into the hands of the abortion clinic workers, unfortunately, and turns people away from our message. How can they call us protesters if we are doing nothing but visibly praying and offering literature? If we assault women with those very real, but very brutal photos, they may harden themselves so much as to even work in the abortion field.

No, working in prayer and if any signs, messages such as “God loves you AND your baby” and “Abortion hurts women” are much more effective at the clinics. On college campuses, it makes sense to bring the signs and open up the students’ eyes to the reality of genocide. GAP does that very well.

If Im ever brutally murdered feel free to show pictures of my remains in a public place toreach a political goal just blur out my face.

I agree completely.

I would much rather that we show these women ultrasound pictures of what their living baby looks like. As my dear mother used to say “you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.” Shower these women with love and compassion and offers of practical assistance. The graphic “education” afforded through pictures of aborted fetuses is best saved for high school programs, college campuses, etc.

And that is exactly how we are going to undermine the largest abortion center in the Western Hemisphere - by parking a free ultrasound clinic on wheels right across from the mega-death center.

houstoncoalition.com/

The photo banner at the top of the home page is NOT the new mega-death center, you can see the photos in the blog and at the bottom of the page. I can’t find the page with the information about the ultrasound bus but that is how we will win over the death centers. The new, very portable ultrasound technology is allowing this.

Praise God, we know the battle is His and He wins!

Those graphic pictures haven’t really stopped anyone from getting an abortion. They have turned off people like myself, and others-I’m still pro-life, but there is something in me that makes me NOT want to be associated with people who show these pictures.
If you endorse that kind of violence, why not show bloody pictures of WW II to 5 year olds as well?
If the American people want abortion, they must SEE what the result of abortion is. When the extermination camps were opened at the end of WWII, Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower ordered that German civilians be conducted through the camps to observe what the Nazis had done in their name. The universal response by the average German was, “we did not know.” The American people need to know what is being done in their name so they will not be able to say “we did not know.” BTW, what is a “sorta” Catholic?

I just got word that the people who are praying in 40 Days for Life outside the mega-death center in Houston, heard from one of the CPCs we refer clients to that a woman who was 3 mos along in her pregnancy CHOSE LIFE because she saw people praying outside the clinic. She had scheduled the abortion FOR TODAY and is not going to abort her baby. Maybe the photos would have scared her away, but I prefer to reach people this way instead. Would this woman have seen it as a “sign from God” if she were shown graphic images of a dismembered baby? Hard to imagine that she would.

I was going to link to the blog but they aren’t posting it on the website as they write it. Here’s a clip out of the email.

*Day twenty-three highlights only…mom chooses life

This afternoon we received a call from one of the crisis pregnancy centers in Houston whose phone number and directions to their center we have placed on the back of the brochures we hand out at Planned Parenthood.

They said that a young woman who took a brochure from the pro-lifers at Planned Parenthood today called to say that she had changed her mind about having an abortion and that she would like to schedule an appointment for a free ultrasound! Praise God! She told them that she was three months pregnant and actually had the abortion scheduled for today. She said that seeing the people in prayer really touched her heart and that she felt it was a sign from God that she should not go through with it!

What happened today echoes very similar stories we hear on a regular basis as we stand and pray at Planned Parenthood. People approach us quite often to tell us that they had an abortion scheduled there in the past but because pro-lifers were present they changed their mind. Most of the time these people do not tell the us that their heart was changed, they just leave. Today, God in His infinite Goodness gave us a glimpse of one, most of the others we will only know about when we finally stand before Him.

This beautiful account today really emphasizes the importance of having people present in prayer. When there are, through the Grace of God, hearts are changed and lives are saved from the horror of abortion.

As much as I understand what you are saying, I do not believe that it applies to displaying graphic pictures at the abortion clinic.
You are talking about showing the result of murder and torture to adult people who chose to ignore these crimes while they were taking place. We are talking about showing graphic abortion pictures to mothers who are lied to and coerced into killing their child. Mother and child are both victimized by abortion: one killed, the other wounded psychologically (and sometimes physically). We are also talking about innocent people passing by with young children, to whom the graphic pictures are not intended, but who will see them anyways and can be traumatized by them.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing Julianne!

Praise God!!!

Just the wrong venue. Better in a film to teenagers, so they can see what the procedure entails. But since embryos in the early stages simply do not look like babies, the argument can be made that they are just potentially human beings because an ape fetus looks much the same.
Robby, check out this website: endowment for human development. It uses the last technology to show fetal development. Example: you can see the beating heart at 4 weeks, the fingers and toes of a 7 week gestation baby. ehd.org/

Put your description of the WW2 allied response and the camps into perspective. The people who needed to see the camps were those that enabled the atrocities. Those made to go to the camps and bury the bodies were the Germans who enabled the crimes by condoning the crimes with their silence and enabling the crimes by their deceit…

It is we that need to be aware of the results of abortion so that it doesn’t get portrayed as a reasonable answer to some possibly difficult situations.

The tactic of using the graphic pictures reminds me of the poster seen in some places: “The beatings will stop when your attitude improves”.

I would imagine that the window of opportunity to save a life at an abortion center is a few seconds. Unless you are willing to go so far as to hold a gun to the head of a person the negative approach is unlikely to work as well as a uplifting glance and a positive statement will .

Peace

Here is an email I received this afternoon. It is from a very reliable source.

Of course, non-Christians would not see anything in this photo, just a coincidental light ray, right???

Life Team,

A prayer warrior was praying outside of an abortion clinic in Birmingham, Alabama. She said the truck that picks up the aborted babies (hazardous waste) came, and she and the group started praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. When one of the clinic employees came out of the facility with the babies in a container, my friend prayed to Jesus for the their souls. Another person at the prayer vigil took this picture…the light is radiating directly to the container. The divine mercy rays fall right on those babies bringing their souls to heaven. You can see the biohazard waste truck in the background. May God have mercy on us all.

Please share this with your family and friends. May we all continue to be vigilant in our prayers and actions for the conversion of harden hearts and souls and the protection of all life especially the unborn.

God does hear our prayers!

Yours in Christ,
Jeanne and Stacy

p.s. I know some pro-lifers who harangue the drivers of these trucks unmercifully. I see that as another aggressive tactic that does not open hearts or minds. Believe it or not, some of the drivers may not even realize what they are picking up, or they may be in denial, or they may even support Planned Parenthood. How much more effective to greet them, offer them a pamphlet on Planned Parenthood, and pray for them, too. It is extremely sickening, the worst part of being there, and frequently I cry when I see the truck. But yelling at the drivers does no good for our cause.
