Great devotion to Mary.

Really? That’s funny because the Catechism I read is chalk full of Bible references and played a major factor in me returning to the Church.
Catholics do not worship Mary. If you knew the Catholic faith for 22 years you would know that.
You obviously weren’t paying attention.
You say you don’t worship Mary yet you say we need her to commune with Christ for us?? You claim this yet there are prayers to Mary and not just through her. To pray to anyone other than Christ directly is blasphemy. The Bible strictly says," There is only one mediator between God and man and that is Christ Jesus." How can you claim anything else if scripture is clear and concise about this. It makes absolutley no sense. If you beleive in the word of God please show me directly in any scripture where the Apostles or Christ himself said that we need Mary to talk to Him for us. Show me where the Apostles and Christ said that we need Mary for intercessory for us or for grace. The early writings of the catholic church hold no wieght because they are not Holy Scripture. If the writings were they would have been added to the New Testemant. I ask you this, if I only pray to Christ for forgiveness, ask Him for help, guidence and grace will my salvation be in jeapordy?? No, because of scripture like 1 John 5 verse 13-15. This is indisputable. What about John 3:16 and many others etc. Show me in the Old testemant Messianic prophecy and scriptures where it talks about a mediatrix or co-redeemer necessary for Salvation! You say there is Scripture yet you don’t show it. Christ is the Word of God yet you can not find a Bible in any pue of any Roman Catholic church you walk into. How come in 12 years of catholic school we never had 1 thorough Bible study?? It is simple because when you start investigating and reading God’s word and compare it to Rome’s cannon and catechism you start to find serious problems and begin to ask questions. Why is it that until 1960 you could not hear a Mass in English?? All the Bibles were written in latin?? Doesen’t scripture say that Christ will not return until the Word of God is preached unto the 4 corners of the Earth. How can this be accomplished if people were and are not aloud to read His Divine word and absorb and come together in fellowship in Christ and His Word??

Mary is particularly honored because of the special greatness of the favors she received from God. She is what God made her, and as such we recognize her. All her graces on earth and her glory in heaven are celebrated relation to her unique privilege: her Divine Maternity. By reason of her unique supernatural excellence the special veneration which we pay to her is called “hyperdulia.”

In honoring her and the Saints of God the Church would have us celebrate with veneration their holiness which they owe to the merits of Jesus Christ: obtain their prayers - which avail only in so far as by the divine ordinance they intercede in virtue of the grace they have received from Christ the Head of the Mystical Body (take a look at what St. Paul has to say in this regard), and in view of His merits; and finally set before ourselves the example of their virtues, the exercise of which is due to the grace of God through which they were united to the Mystical Body, and so imitated the model of all virtues Jesus Christ himself. The veneration of the Saints is thus directed to the glory of God, who is wonderful in his Saints, and therefore in his Saints is duly honored.

So eminently reasonable is this practice, so perfectly in accord with the doctrine of the Mystical Body, that we are not surprised to find that from the earliest times Catholics have paid honor to the Saints.

With regard to the intercession of the Saints let it suffice to note with St. Thomas that “prayer may be offered to a person in two ways, either so that he himself may grant it, or that he may obtain the favor from another. In the first way we pray only to God, because all our prayers should be directed to obtaining grace and glory, which God alone gives, according to the Psalmist (83): ’ The Lord will give grace and glory.” But in the second way we pray to the angels and Saints, not that through them God may know our petitions, but that through their prayers and merits our petitions may be effective. Hence we read in Revelation 8:4 that. ‘the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the saints ascended up before God from the hand of the Angel.’ And this is manifest also from the method which the Church uses in praying; for we ask the Trinity to have mercy on us; but we ask the Saints to pray for us." (II, IIae, Q. lxxxiii, art. 4.) :highprayer:

You say you don’t worship Mary yet you say we need her to commune with Christ for us??
No we don’t say that. We are free to ask for her intercession or not.
You claim this yet there are prayers to Mary and not just through her. To pray to anyone other than Christ directly is blasphemy.
Do you understand the Communion of Saints or the concept of intercessory prayer?
The Bible strictly says," There is only one mediator between God and man and that is Christ Jesus." How can you claim anything else if scripture is clear and concise about this. It makes absolutley no sense.
Then you obviously don’t understand the Church’s teaching on Mary and her role. Nothing in our veneration of her takes away anything from Christ Jesus.
If you beleive in the word of God please show me directly in any scripture where the Apostles or Christ himself said that we need Mary to talk to Him for us.
Please show us directly in Scripture that every truth of Christianity has to be in Scripture.
With all due respect. I have been reading and thoroughly investigating the scriptures especially the New Testament. I have been scrutinizing, analyzing and comparing the claims of the Roman Catechism and comparing it to the Scripture in detail. Nowhere in the Bible does it honor Mary the way that Rome has her venerated. I believe Mary should be respected and that she was blessed by being the vessel in which brought Messiah Yeshua into the world as was written in Daniel, and Isaiah. As I read more and more about Christ I find that there is no Scripture that writes or even suggests her divinity, her being immaculate or the intercessor for man to communicate to the Lord for us for essential grace. The catechism even clearly states that we should pray to her and God’s angels so that they may intercede on our behalf. This is highly disturbing since the scripture strictly in many places says that we should never pray to the Angels for they are worshipers of God themselves and many times throughout the scripture when bringing messages to chosen people have told those people not to worship them and to get up after those people have at times fell to their feet. The Bible says ," There is only one mediator between God and Man and it is Christ ." This statement alone thoroughly and emphatically contradicts Roman catechism and its writings on intercessory. All believers in Christ are saints not just martyrs. 1 Corinthians :1-3. 1 Corinthians :1-3 also only talks about grace through God and our Savior and not through Mary. The same is proven in 1 Col:1-3 as well without any mention of Mary for grace and also affirming that all believers in Christ are saints not just people who are chosen by a hierarchy of priest, bishops cardinals, popes and councils. These writings were added hundreds of years later. The scripture clearly contradicts these writings and if they were scripture the pre -catholic early councils would have included them in our New Testament but they are not. The early church made these things up from scratch without any scriptural basis for them. I could see if there were overwhelming amounts of scripture and scriptural commands and guidelines from the Apostles, Paul and Christ our Lord but there are not. In that case we could say the same for John at Calvary’s cross when he was with Mary and Christ said to them," Woman behold your son, and son behold your mother." Christ in no way, shape, form or interpretation was passing on divine power or divine classification to Mary because if that were the case than we could say the same for John as well. The Gospels are the only authority and way to Christ. Not early Roman catholic traditions, canons, creeds and catechism. What did Christ clearly say about traditions. The only tradition that should be kept is the New Testament Word as believers in Christ. Didn’t Christ tell satan, " Man does not live on bread alone , but on every Word out of the Father’s mouth?" The divine authority of God’s word alone is reaffirmed in 1 John 5:13-15," These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence which we have before Him,that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from him. In Catholicism the catechism says we cannot know for sure that we are going to heaven which is so insane because of what this verse says clear as the sun , moon and stars can be seen. To say that there is no guaranteed salvation even though we believe in Christ with our hearts is to deny Christ Himself. Jesus is the Word. To deny His Word is to deny Jesus. By repenting of your sins, and accepting Christ as your personal Lord and and Savior first and foremost and being baptized in water and Spirit, that’s where the profession of faith begins. Good works are then truly recognized by God as a result of that surrendering and faith in Christ and that special relationship with Him. If it were just a system of good works outweighing bad works alone than we might as well become Muslims because that is what they believe and I have that guaranteed Salvation in Christ’s Word but also through living a Christ filled life which comes only after that surrendering to Him. It is even recorded in the early writings of Rome that a majority of women were unhappy with their roles and treatment. So Rome had to come up with something to ease the minds and spirituality of women at the time and that is when the focus on Mary began and these Canons and decrees began to show up and take shape.

The writings of the Gospels and Paul would have thoroughly and strictly talked about or emphasized how important Mary’s role would have been or wrote about all the things that are said in the Catechism when it comes to her Divinity or her role as an intercessor, her immaculateness or her having the ability to give us grace. Only Christ has that power and Jesus would have spoken Himself to us on her importance but he never did. When Christ was preaching in Mathew and the Apostles said to Him, " Your mother and brothers are outside and would like to speak to you,", what was Christ’s response to them??? Wouldn’t Jesus have dropped everything if Mary was to be esteemed or honored as an essential part of grace or salvation?? Wouldn’t He have spoke about His own mother and clearly outline what and how we should think of her? Remember His response immediately after the Apostles told Him His brothers and mother wanted to speak to Him. That proves it right there. Scripturally, once again, there is nothing that suggests Romes claim to Mary’s divinity because of this verse again. I cannot as a Bible believing Christian in all rationale, common sense and through scriptural investigation believe what the catechism teaches about Mary. It makes absolutely no sense and the scriptures are clear and concise on this issue but Rome says the complete opposite. It’s like looking at a red car and you see that it is clearly red and other people see it is clearly red but someone comes along and says , yes it’s red but it can be blue as well. And you say yes if you paint it and they respond but what if you look at it in a different light and I say no matter what light you see it in it is red. May God Bless you all and may the Word of God open all your eyes to God’s truth

Is the Bible God’s inspired word yes or no?? You say that we don’t pray to her or through her yet I read the catechism thoroughy would you like me to show you??? Please don’t play with words! We need to be honest! I ask you this, can we know for sure that we are garenteed eternal life with Christ??

With all due respect. Your analysis is faulty, as you have failed to take into account the fact the Catholic Church determined which writings were Scripture and which one were not and were given the Deposit of Faith, by Christ, to preserve and teach the faith.

So your conclusions about Marian devotion are equally faulty.

David the Bible is the word of God. Either you accept it or not. If scripture is clear and only focuses and strictly emphasizes belief in Christ for grace , eternal life and salvation alone, than any early Catholic writings after the 4 Gospels or Paul’s writings that say different and that say Mary is necessary for grace and intercession is contradicting the word. Once again either you accept the 4 Gospels as God’s word or you do not. No where does it speak of this about Mary yet you press on with these early Church writings. Eiher the Gospels are right or the early Roman catholic churches writings are right. You can’t be half a Christian. I’m not saying that all the early writings of the early chruch were wrong I’m just saying a lot of them were and this also can be proven when even the early Church disagreed on whether Peter was the first Pope. There were early Church fathers who agreed on this and many who thoroughly disagreed. Yet the ones who dissagreed were not cast away from the early Church… So who was right??? We can’t play with words.

David the Bible is the word of God.
Correction, Jesus is the Word of God.
Either you accept it or not.
I accept the Bible as inerrant written word of God. I reject your false interpretation of it.

The Catholic Church is right.

If the catholic church is right show me in scripture where the Apostles and Paul wote about the exoneration and level of Mary that the catechism takes it to and prove it with God’s word!! You are playing with words. I have not lied about anything I have written. Would you like me to post the catechism. You say the catholic church is right but you do not prove it. The word of God is the truth than you should use it to prove what you believe. What is the authority on Christ’s life, divine ministry and glorious ressurection, the catechism or the Bible???

Like I said, show me in Scripture where this has to be shown in Scripture.

The Bible, as Holy as it is, cannot exercise authority. Only people can do so. Jesus shared His authority with the Apostles and there successors.
“He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” (Luke (RSV) 10:16)
These successors are the Magisterium of the Church.

You say my interpretation is wrong so If i only believein Christ alone without Mary as my savior and path for salvation and grace, will be robbed of my salvation because of what Rome says?? If I believe in 1 John 5:13-15 where it says, These things I have written to you(meaning that this scripture is what is being written concerning how and what we should believe for salvation) who believe in the Son of God( meaning Christ Jesus alone, not mary) so that you may know you have eternal life(meaning through belief in Him alone is all that is needed for salvation and garenteed eternal life). This is in the confidence which we have before Him,that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.( this cleary states that we only ask Christ directly for these things without any mention of mary for intercessory) And if we know He(not mary)in what ever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from HIM. You saymy interpretation is flase but is this scripture wrong??? How can you look into your heart with all clarity and say that if I believe this than I’m wrongly interpreting this??? Now that really makes no sense!

Because the Apostles even when passing down these writings which were scripture to Polycarp and Bartholemew did not emphasize and write about mary as the intercessor , co-redemptress and mediatrix that the Catechism which came hundreds of years later claims she was and is. Christ also says," many will come in my name and I will say I do not know them!" The early protectors of the Apostles Scriptural truths protected God’s word." Either the Holy Inspired Word of God is the authority or Rome and it’s catechism is. It cannot be both. The scripture that talks about having faith in Christ alone for salvation and grace are soo numerous, concise and clear , to make any other claim is completly wrong and blasphemous. So basically what your implying and forgive me if I’m wrong on this is if I only put faith in Christ alone without mary than I’m wrong and my salvation is jeapordized?? can you prove this with scripture???

You say my interpretation is wrong so If i only believein Christ alone without Mary as my savior and path for salvation and grace, will be robbed of my salvation because of what Rome says?? Clearly you have no idea what the Church teaches on this manner as you continue to misrepresent it.

What makes no sense is how you, a limited creature with finite knowledge, can be so sure that you understand perfectly what was written almost 2000 years ago in a different language and a different culture. Why should I believe you instead of the Church, which was there at the beginning.

Yes, Christ did share His authority with the Apostles and there successors but only if they testified to the truths that were written down in scripture. The only tradition that should be kept is in the Word of God. That is through fellowship in His word. That is how we know about Christs existence, divine ministry, life, death and glorious ressurection. To completly sputter off into other interpretations that are not consistent with what was written in the Gospels and for a group of heirarchy to assume higher authority over the clear testimonies of the Apostles is as wrong as wrong could be. Forgive me but you still have not defended any claim you have made about Rome or Mary with any clear scripture! If Roman catholicism believes that the New Testament is God’s word,(which is written in the catechism might I ad) than if I literlally believe in God’s word alone and conform to it in my heart and believe in Christ alone as my personal Lord and Savior, am I wrong for believing that?? Will I be denied God’s grace because I only going about it in that way??? If I only ask for grace and help through Jesus alone and deny Mary as my intercessor will I go to hell??? 1 John 5:13-15 says i won’t! But you say I"m interpreting that wrong so explain how that verse can be interpreted any other way??? The Bible says you will be given wisdom when contending for belief in Christ so please enlighten me! May the Truth of God’s word be with you.

With all do respect you keep referring to the assumption that only Rome and it’s catechism, canons and early traditions can truly interpret the meaning of scripture. I do not care what Rome says about Biblical interpretation because it has missinterpreted so much of it that is why soo many Catholics are leaving the Church. I gave you 1 John 5:13-15 and you have not given me the"right" so called interpretation. I gave you historical fact yet you do not respond with any answers other than I do not understand the true interpretation or what Rome decrees. Forgive for being blunt but I do not care what Rome decrees. Rome says that the Pope is the " vicar" of christ which in it’s literal greek interpretation means" In the place of". No one can take Christ’s place or substitue for Him on earth. We can only live our lives as Christ would want us to through absorbing His word and living His word by Faith in Him alone. Even the so called first Pope Peter would have never and never did in any writings of scripture or any early Church father’s writings ever proclaim this. To lead people to Christs truth the right way is one thing but to claim to be in His place is another. Catholics call the Pope the “holy father”! There is only one Holy Father and that is God Himself. The Scripture says no man is holy and they all fall short of the Glory of God. However , in the repentance of sin we can continue to proclaim God’s Holiness! No Apostle ever claimed this title even in thier succession as proclaimers of Christ and His gospel and there are no writings until Rome’s beginning that claim this title which in all morality and in God’s eyes are blasphemous! Didn’t in the 80’s John Paul have all different religious leaders of all different faiths at the vatican praying to thier god’s and and I quote him saying that we are all praying to the same God?? Doesn’t the Bible say that we are only saved though Christ Jesus alone?? That through Him alone we are saved and have eternal life?? I thought Popes were infallable in matters of faith??? Even Catholics believe that. Religious tolerance is one thing, but compromising your belief in Christ is another. You keep saying I don’t understand so you are implying that by me living my life according to His scriptures, not praying to Mary, not conforming to Roman catholic interpretation, canons ,creeds and it’s system of so called “majestrerium”(by the way there is only one who is majestic and that is Christ the Prince of Peace) that I am wrong! Even Peter, John and Paul would agree with my last statement. My heart guarentees me this. I have written things down in all confidence and thourough investigation yet you say I’m wrong just to say it, yet you do not prove it with God’s word! You say the Bible does not have the authority that I and millions of other people say it does and that we are all mislead yet you show no proofs in the contention for what you beleive. It is a duty of every Christian to bring the word of God and witness the Gospel of Christ ot the Jew first, then the gentiles, yet you say that Rome has the final say!! I leave you with this, where does the Gospel say that we should witness the traditions of men and Romes authority over the Gospel when trying to bring people to the Lord through the power of The Holy Spirit??? I pray to the Spirit that he comes into your heart and mind and saves you the way I have been guarenteed eternal life through faith in Christ alone.

Oh and one more thing, you claim I have limited finite knowledge yet I have contended for my beliefs with clarity and with the Word of God. Yet you do not back up anything you say other than I am uninformed. God’s word is my authority and trust me when I say that I know I have the guarenteed eternal life that Christ and his word promised me. The catechism says no one can know for sure if they will get into heaven when scripture clearly and emphatically says the opposite. But please, interpret the true Roman catholic understanding of Salvation so that I may know what guarentees me heaven!! God forgive me for being a little antagonistic and Your Will be done!

Really? That’s funny because the Catechism I read is chalk full of Bible references and played a major factor in me returning to the Church.
Catholics do not worship Mary. If you knew the Catholic faith for 22 years you would know that.
You obviously weren’t paying attention.
I studied Roman catechism in Catholic Highschool for 4 years and continued an advanced study into St francis College. When I compared the New Testemant to Rome’s catechism and listened to the Franciscan brother who taught me it in an extensive study I began to ask serious questions because common sense issues were starting to alarm me. No one converted me or brainwashed me it was God’s divine word that pointed the way to the truth in His word. Once I opened and softened my heart the Spirit showed me the truth. What confirmed this was when I pulled a Martin Luther and asked a Proffessor in catechism and a Monsignor the questions that I had written down and compared them with numerous overwhelming scriptral passages that completley contradicted Catholic interpretation and so called logic. So don’t be so quick to judge my dear friend. I speak fluant Hebrew and am even better in Greek and was learning latin for 3 years so you can’t play that linguistic missinterpretation game with me. Would you like to continue corresponding in Hebrew?? I apologise for my lack of spelling, lol, Im just a little lazy!

The scriptural passages that are referred to when it comes to the divinity and the exoneration Rome has applied to mary are soo weak and vague they can be easily refuted with true Scriptural interpretation and I challenge you to show me in Scripture where the Apostles and Christ Himself talked, explained in detail, or wrote about Mary in the regard that Rome takes it to. Read my posts below so that you can get a logical scriptural understanding of my point of view even if you don’t agree with it. if Christ or His apostles were to honor mary the way that Rome does than a strict layout and thorough clear and concise scriptural details would have been written in reguards to her divinty, immaculateness, and her being necessary for grace and intercession. No where does this exist and even in the early Church before Rome does this theory of her being a co-remptress or mediatrix take shape until Rome is established.

I agree w/ Mskejj … Scott Hahn’s book would be a great.

Also, FAITH has a lot to do w/ Catholics and Our Blessed Mother.

I have always felt sorry for Protestants who don’t know Our Mother.

Scott’s (former Protestant) will hopefully give you some insight.

How could it be wrong to honor Jesus’ Mother?
