I agree. This is really good news.

Just to add my own anecdotal experience to the article, I visited Belmont Abbey here in NC, for a weekend earlier this month. The guestmaster had to give me a room with the monks because their novitiate wing was full. I was the only visitor that weekend, so it wasn’t full of visitors, it was full of novices. I told him that was an excellent problem to have, and he readily agreed.

Wonderful to read-thanks for posting it!

Something nice to hear instead of all the bad stuff…

Thank you for posting!
I found this part so inspiring:

“It is not the job of one member of an order or diocese to promote vocations. We are all vocation directors. We must encourage people when we see in them the qualities that God puts in those who He wants for Himself!”

This gives me a bit more hope about the monastery I visited this weekend. The youngest monk there is 51 years old right now, which makes me a little worried about the idea of joining that particular community.

If that–age-- is your only hesitation about this community, I wouldn’t let that stand in your way.

I understand what you mean because the Carmelite monastery that I was seriously discerning with hadn’t had a postulant in 20 years, so they were hurting for vocations. I didn’t want their age to stand in my way, and I decided that if God was truly calling me there, He would make it my “home.” Well, I discerned that it was not my community, and I ended communication with them for the time being. I found out, through the Prioress, before then that they got 2 new postulants! So I am rejoicing that the community is finally getting vocations! Even if they are from Kenya…😃

That’s great for them, Carmelite girl. Every new person can help. 🙂

I posted on Fish Eaters asking about traditional contemplative orders, since the closest thing to a strictly contemplative (say, Trappist - as opposed to Benedictine) life you can find in a traditional community is with the Carthusians. Apparently there is a young, strong Carmelite community, which I’ll probably be contacting soon, in Wyoming - so more good news for vocations, even for contemplatives. 🙂

Praying for vocations.
Stephen
