Seems only one niece was involved in the elderly woman’s life. What about the rest of the family? Looks like they only got upset after they read the will and realized how she was spending her own money when they weren’t there. If she was truly diagnosed with dementia, a simple court-order would have protected all her possessions under guardianship.

No doubt the priest is likely a con-man. But it seems the family was simply absent until it was too late.

So sad but where was her family in the matter. When my mother had a stroke and needed round the clock care we had her financial affairs turned over to a third party. Made the relatives that came out of the wood-work angry but it protected the ability to care for her.

Sometimes even if it means that family members don’t get one red-cent it protects the loved one’s ability to be cared for.
